I decided it'd benefit people to have a list of weapons they can go through for inspiration. In the case of Exotic weapons a description of their use may be necessary. I want to start out with ˆž-16th century weapons ("Medieval" Weapons), then 17th-19th (Steampunk and Early Guns) , 20th - 21st (Modern Warfare), and then space-age technology commonly found in sci-fi. (Meaning it has to have more than 1 pop reference using it. Aka no light sabers, they're only found in Star Wars, but yes to Ray Guns and Mechs.) I will need people throwing me a few weapons so this list can be comprehensive and complete. Thanks smile.gif It's going to take a long while for this list to be completed.

The matchlock is from the 14th century and the wheellock is from the 16th.

Let us not forget the greek Xiphos, the canaanite Kopesh, the greek Sarissa, the chinese fire lance, or the Eastern European Bardiche.

Also, the Katara is Indian, not Arabic.

This can be helpful, especially when trying to use historically accurate weapon names and such. A suggestion though. This is to keep the post from getting too crazy, use spoiler buttons to categorize your list:

Swords
Sword list would be here

Daggers & Short Sword
Daggers and Short Sword list would be here

etc...

You can then include spoilers within the spoilers to categorize by country/army depending on how long that list gets.

I'm thinking of adding a quick description for each weapon, but it would take a longer time to compile.

Also I'm considering adding in musical instruments for when someone wants to make a bard character and also considering adding in mythical weapons section for things like Excalibur and Longinus and Gugnir.

In the end this list will help you stock up your weapon shops with some good stuff instead of "Fancy Sword" and "Dual Daggers" and could help artists make interesting weapons for their characters.

I may even add a comprehensive material list, though that'd be short since it's mostly catagorized by ages (Stone, Bronze, Steel) but may be expanded on by using Mythical or Unorthodox materials.

Also while the Katara is Indian, it is still Arabic. However I've decided to be less broad with their origins.

I suggest checking out the exotic weaponry for yourself. Some if it is really fascinating.

it would be awesome if you could link the name of the weapon to a picture of it, if there is one. That way people know what it looks like, and not just its name.

I might actually do just that. Only problem is if a link becomes outdated.

I tried putting pictures directly in, but that would have been insane for size. I tried linking but since I search through google images it wasn't the easiest. But I think I know a way.

how about if someone saves the images to a photo sharing site? then the links would be valid, and you wouldn't have to worry about the pictures, unless the account was deleted.

For things like that you can create your own personal gallery here, just go to the top of the page and click on My Albums.
I do that for my tutorials. I know that it can be a pain when images are removed after not logging into say Photobucket for example.

yes to the gallery....

You can store an almost unlimited number of images in your personal gallery and then link them to your page...

Control panel / or My Albums -> Albums -> create personal album...

Also maybe not light sabers but Energy swords and "Swords of Light" show up in various settings from anime to sci-fi and RPG games like d-20 future.

A good but not exactly great resource for inspiration would be Pallaidiums Compendium of ancient weapons and armour and the compendium of modern weapons also d-20 future and d-20 future tech...

If you want a great refrence for weapons I Highly suggest "Weapon, a visual history of Arms and Armor" (<-amazon) it's 350+ pages and has a half dozen pics on each page..

I own all of these books btw... biggrin.gif
