This is a short project I made for RMN's Game Gale 2010 event.

Torturing. Causing pain and suffering. Taking screams and tears from a completely subdued human being.
That’s the hobby of people from a community called The Dungeoneers. Dungeoneers have their own private dungeons in their homes (hence the name), to which they take strangers – those naive enough to fall for the dungeoneer’s charms.
Members from this community won’t settle for just executing their sadistic game. They must show it to other people. For that, they videotape their torture sessions and post it to online forums, to get other member’s appreciation and reviews.

Character
BE:D tells the story of Verge, a dungeoneer depressed because he’s lost his touch with doing decent videos, and because the love of his life, Daily, couldn’t care less about his existence.

Gameplay and Features
BE:D has two distinct gameplay aspects:

•The first one is similar to a Dating Sim, in which you have to approach strangers on the street and seduce them to go home with you, mainly using dialog choices.
•The second one is more like a puzzle, and it consists of setting up your dungeon to torture your victims. Your goal at this stage is making your victim leave the dungeon completely shattered psychologically and physically, but still alive. That’s what the Dungeoneers call a Beautiful Escape, and it’s the ultimate goal of the torture sessions. You can also get them killed, get them too depressed to leave the dungeon, or even have them leave healthy enough, but your viewers won’t appreciate your videos as much. It’s all about the delicate balance between too much and not enough.

Gameplay elements are tempered with lots of dialogs and the resolution of Verge’s love story.

Playtime: around 40 minutes.

Although I haven't downloaded it yet, this seems like a highly original and interesting game to play. I'll download it now and let you know what I think, it looks brilliant from what I can see!

I've not beaten the whole game yet, but I'm going to comment anyway. This game is dark and twisted and sick and I love it . . . simply because it's good at what it sets out to do. I can't play for extended periods of time, though. The better parts of my nature are too repulsed. sweat.gif

This game needs to at least have a list of credits, if not a character information and a list of features.

The concept is pretty creepy! I'll have to try it out some time.

I just... I just.... w-wow. This game is so very beautiful. The mood. The shattering absense of all hope for the victims. The spiraling depression of Verge. I just.... T____T The game screams brilliance, in all of its sadistic, shameful glory. It almost puts me into tears, it is so moving.

Being a sadist myself, I LOVE this game (understatement, but I simply cannot find the words). Haven't finished it yet, but it gets me so excited. In so many levels. By far the most gorgeous RPG Maker game I have ever been blessed enough to play. Visally, psychologically, mehcnically. Genius.

Period. T_T Why can't I find more games of this calibur here on the forums? tongue.gif

I'm going to edit this with mah full review later, after I finish the entire game~ Can you please make more games like this? I hope my praise for this thread (and an intention to post full review here) isn't considered necroposting. Of any game here, this is the one I most want to speak out on so far: and I have played many a demo and full game here, I tell you. But nothing prepared me for the sheer awesome this game brings.

Hey, just wanted to inform you that I've completed the official review for this game.
You can find it here: http://www.rpgrevolution.com/forums/index....showtopic=45579

The game is not hosted on RRR, it's hosted on RMN, so I don't have the review in the same location as its upload.
If you (calunio) could upload it to RRR's main site, I'd post the review there. =]

I encourage you to play through it and review it. =]
The review I did was for the official review forum, but that shouldn't keep you from giving your thoughts about the game - I'm certain the author would be delighted. ^^

Glad you like it so much. rolleyes.gif
I can't wait for your full review! Please don't give up on it. laugh.gif
And btw, I'm working on a new project that will be somewhat... similar. Completely different concept, but the same kind of game, I guess.

I have played through this game and it is, wow. The game is amazing and unique, I found myself celebrating a seduction and then celebrating even more when I did the torture correctly. It was a great game.

I'm always a fan of originallity. You've done a very original job here. I can tell you also had a group of friends that drove you almost completely insane judging by the dialouge and writting. Its interesting almost to the point of I feel like a child exploring a new game, seeing as how I started with my old jaded veiw but when I entered my bedroom in the game I noticed it was going to be different.
Nice concept, the shop keeper gets paid by emo boosts, haha. this game must have been satisfying to finish.
I've only played up till my first victim taken home and tortured...it was the unemployed dude who plays in a band and was wondering
if he should screw the girl whoes likely gonna size him up with his friends.
He escaped...and I got gameover and I'm not sure exactly what to do now, but thats why I like it.

Heh, I'm glad you like it!

Yep, it was supposed to be something of a different gaming experience, and while not everyone may enjoy it (if that's a word I can use for the game), I'm glad some do.

You should just kill him next time. When using sustainable traps, press 121212121212121212 for max effect.

I thought about hosting it somewhere else, but no one would find it anyway...

Mini-Review:

At first, you feel really bad while talking to the people throughout the little street, trying to choose which one you want to torture, but this game turns you into a temporary Dungeoneer, and makes you want to put on a show. It's quite disturbing, but it was quite interesting to play with, and the areas looked beautiful. It was wonderfully presented and the story was bizaare. This game really gives you a sense of customizable guilty pleasure.

Good things:
-Great scenery
-Good concept/story
-Guilty Pleasure

Negative things:
-Some people may dislike the theme
-The length (I understand it was a contest, but as a game on its own, not a contest entry, it was a bit short.)

8/10

Thanks a lot for this mini-review! I'm glad you like it.

Well, it was made in two weeks, so it had to be short. Plus, the game is a bit repetitive, it would get tiring if it were too long.

Btw, I know someone who really looks like your avatar.
