I'm a hobby composer, and I wanna make some music for you guys! I wonder though, should I make music for individual projects, or should I work on a package that's open for everyone to use? And also, should I do MIDI stuff, or mp3s?
Here are some example of something I've done recently::
Bit of a stupid example, this one... It sounds like christmas. xD I have a feeling I should rather do MIDI, too? I'm cool with that anyway, since then I don't need to install all my samples and stuff. I could upload more, but that's the only thing I've got that's already on the web.
Hope to hear from you guys!

Wow, the example you shared with us is incredibly pleasing to listen to. Don't quote me on it, but it almost reminds me of Star Ocean! Good job. I believe you should create music for both individual projects as well as music for all to use.
For those who request music, only allow it to be used in their own project. Otherwise, any other music you make could be used freely? It grants a bit of individuality to projects that way.
To improve your post, I'd suggest adding a couple more examples of your work to let us see how varied you are as a composer. That'd be a great help to those who wish to request something. Maybe include a characters' theme tune, a battle song and maybe one for a town? That way, we can see how experienced you are in different fields!
As for a request, would you be able to make me an mp3 for a Kingdom? It's the biggest City in the game and it needs to have a majestic feel to it, similar to the sample you provided us. Thanks and if any more information is needed, I'm happy to provide.
(Why aren't more people responding to this? The music is amazing)

Bravo!
Really, it is up to personal preference. I mean, as a game designer, I'm always looking for composers to make songs for individual games, and not something that has been used multiple times. However, I can understand the view of a composer wanting to get their music out there, and making this 'batch' of music for everyone to use so they can continue to advertise through their talent.
Love what you have!! ^^ I may have to contact you about composing one of these days >:D

Great to hear you folks like what you hear.
Okay, I think I'll start working on a package of tunes for free use then.
If someone's got a promising project that needs music, contact me and I will see what I can do. All of a sudden I'm a bit busy again, but yeah.
But for a rpg music package, what format would be best? MIDI or wave format? MIDI goes quite well with RPG maker, I suppose, and I haven't got my wave samples installed and stuff... Yet, I'm probably gonna install my samples soon, so I'll be able to make mp3s again.
Okay, here's some more samples of my work! Some more action filled stuff, as you requested.
Nice, very nice! I can't help but wonder if you draw your inspiration from other games? The 'Battle Tune Test' is one I must note in particular, as it sounds so Megaman-y
Though I'm generally against midis I think you create them very well and they don't sound too tinny. I think perhaps it would be best to work with both formats as not only other people may want mp3s, but I do too
Looking forward to hearing more from you, and you should edit your first post with your new links! Copy+Paste job in 20 seconds, and this topic will attract more attention I'm sure.
Edit: I would prefer the format to be mp3, or a different one if there is a audio format's just as clear and good sounding as mp3 but not as space consuming. If not, midi works fine for me. I also need a title theme and a boss theme too, so that could be later.

@ MyPhantomile, I draw inspiration from everywhere, but yeah, Megaman and those other oldies have inspired me a lot... Megaman, Castlevania, Double Dragon, Final Fantasy, basically all the good old catchy retro stuff. I do also take a lot of inspiration from contemporary stuff though, like f.ex. I'm really into Mr. Bungle these days. Okay, Bungle isn't exactly contemporary I guess, but whatever. xD
And I've also looked at a lot of Chopin and Beethoven and such... It's got a lot in common with game music
Oh, and about your kingdom city tune, I'll look into that. I just gotta get my samples running... Blah, it's like 50 hours of installing, I'm not looking forward to it xDDDD
@ Miles Castea I'll look into it! I'll probably make these tunes open for everyone here to use though, as part of my library. I guess this is all part of an attempt at getting closer to being a proper composer for me.
About the compression type... Uhm, I could do .OGG-files. The sound quality is superior, and the files are smaller too, than MP3. Yet, I don't know if Rpg Maker supports it? And keep in mind that we're still talking like, a few megabytes per song, so if you're going for a full OGG-soundtrack, you should expect quite the hefty filesize on your project.
Oh, and I suddenly got another idea. I could actually teach some composing here, if anyone is interested in learning. Dunno how we'd set that up though... I could put something up in the tutorial section or something.

This. I need to learn composing because finding a composer for the team has been an almost entirely fruitless effort (I wonder where Exiled One wandered off to).
I love the battle tune, it's catchy! Kinda like a FF battle song

You'd be willing to teach people to compose? Wow, that's so nice of you What do you use to compose music with exactly, 'cause I love your music samples :>
