Been sitting around in thought lately, can't really seem to decide if I should be making my project in VX or 2k3...

They do both have their pros and cons...

VX offers more detailed and higher-quality graphics, as far as I know... especially since I've wanted to use high quality (or almost high quality) 'facesets' in my project. But the tileset system just makes me frown, and I'm really idiotic when it comes to scripting. I'm more used to the use of events... And VX also supports more music file formats.

Of course, there's XP too. However I'm not sure if it works on Windows 7...

With 2k3, I may be more limited, but I'd at least be more in a 'comfort zone' if that makes any sense. Sure no scriptiing, but a lot of things can be done with events if one is patient enough. Sure the spriting isn't very good quality-wise, but they're also easier to sprite. Not sure about those high-quality facesets though, when I upload my own I mean... But 2k3 does come with that side-view battle that I've wanted. But 2k3 also doesn't support a lot of music file formats. Though there's supposedly a patch somewhere that enables it to use .mp3s, supposedly.

But there's also this other thing about 2k3, a problem of sorts. It's probably due to my error, but whenever I upload a .PNG or 24-bit images, the color quality always turns out rotten whenever uploaded into the resources. I still have yet to figure out how to get past that.

So while I'm still probably going to have to give it some more thought, I just figured I would ask some of you guys for suggestions? I don't think that 2k3 is obsolete or anything, it's just that I can't quite make up my mind for now...

Um, please exuse my spelling.

Thank you.

Just how long did you even spend with VX? If it wasn't long, then all I can really say is that you didn't give it enough of a chance.

RPG Maker VX and/or XP will beat 2k3 easily.

You can use any type of graphics in XP/VX (there is no limitation aside from the limitation of graphic file support), for example PNG's with alpha transparency is supported, it matters not how many colours etc are in it, it does not care at all. It only cares of the dimensions of the file and how it is set out.

The eventing is nearly identical, I am pretty sure they did not remove *too much* from XP/VX as opposed to 2k3.

There is the extra music support you mentioned, scripting if necessary also.

I don't like the default battle style either but you can change it, or use someone else's pre-made script to set one up, or create your own away from the original or w/e you like.

The list goes on, but I really cannot see 2k3 having ANYTHING over XP/VX at all.

I think it just basically depends with what you are most comfortable with --- regardless of the system. VX & XP do have more features and capabilities than 2k3 will ever have, but 2k3 is a bit easier to manage and create something if you are pretty good with events and what-not!

I use rm2k3 because it is mostly "Comfortable" to work with, but I can see myself using VX someday...

Still...it doesn't matter what you use in the end; as long as it is good, everyone will want to play it regardless!

Aside from minor appeareances and mostly additions I never noticed a difference from 2k3 or any of them at all on towards VX. They all have eventing in them, albeit not the same as each other but extremely close.

Rm2k3 is my favorite engine. Although I do not use it anymore, I still feel more layed-back when using it. Yes, the side-view battle system really had my hopes up that XP or VX would have it too, but no, you had to script it, which would require additional knowledge of the RGSS crap and additional sprites. And what sucks is that I cant script worth crap, and same with spriting. But I'm learning to become a leach and use all the crap located on here.

So my advice is if you really love 2k3, then just stick with it. I've played VX, and I think it's terrible, but a lot of people don't think so.

LET IT BE

[Show/Hide] The Beatles - Let It Be

When I find myself in times of trouble
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be

And in my hour of darkness
She is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be

Let it be, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom
Let it be

And when the brokenhearted people
Living in the world agree
There will be an answer, let it be

For though they may be parted
There is still a chance that they will see
There will be an answer, let it be

Let it be, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Yeah, there will be an answer let it be

Let it be, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom
Let it be

Let it be, let it be
Let it be, yeah, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom
Let it be

And when the night is cloudy
There is still a light that shines on me
Shine on until tomorrow, let it be

I wake up to the sound of music
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be

Yeah, let it be, let it be
Let it be, yeah, let it be
There will be an answer, let it be

Let it be, let it be
Let it be, yeah, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom
Let it be

Well, you are right about that. I haven't really used VX for awhile.

I've already mentioned before. Me plus scripting equals 'laugh out loud'...

Funny... I just see the complete opposite happening, regardless of how much effort I try to put into it...

The xp and vx engines are much better, I, however, still use rm2k3 as I find it much easier to use and it rarely messes up for me.

To be fully honest though I have never tried vx and have only used xp a couple of times, guessing I'm just stuck in my own ways at the moment but this year, I will try the other 2 more once I've managed to get some stuff I want to do out of rm2k3.
