Super Nomad Quest began as an homage to past SNES RPGs. Somewhere along the line I started getting involved in the story and characters and it became something else. There's plenty of humor and there will be lots of things to do, such as a quest guild, item synthesis, secrets galore, and others. My biggest focus however was on the quality of the characters, story, and world.

You play as Bayonne, a foreigner, who is unexpectedly sent on a quest to find something called "the Crest." If it sounds cliche to begin with, well, that's the point (it's an "homage" remember?).

This demo is about an hour to two hours long depending on how you play it and barely scratches the surface of the main storyline. I hope to have the full game completed sometime Summer 2010.

[Show/Hide] Characters
Bayonne is the unlikely main hero from the southern continent of Drozd. He grew up with only a father, who was an artist but also searching for something called "the Crest." After Bayonne got out of college he found himself aimless, indecisive and flat broke. Sometime during this time his father died and told him to continue looking for the Crest in Baroth. Bayonne traveled to Baroth, where his journey began. Bayonne is timid; young and naive, but not stupid; obviously his transformation from weakling to hero will be a big part of the storyline.

Arzachel is King Harry of Baroth's consort. He practically grew up in the castle serving the royal family and is flat-out rude, but still playful and anything but a novice. He is the constant source of intel and also torment to Bayonne when they meet in Baroth and far into the game.

The Callows family occupies the portion of a short-story in this demo. They are a rich family going back many generations that established Cape Lucid, to the east of Baroth, as a trade bloc and port. They're likely to show up later in the game too. [Pictured left to right: Robyn (son), Freed (son), Forbe (father). Also in Callows family but not pictured: Talya (mother), Kerri (daughter), Ellen (toddler daughter), Allin (toddler son).]

Characters not in demo, but to be in full-game:

Himmel is a fisherman that lives with his family in Reubezahl, southwest of Baroth. When Reubezahl becomes cursed, he joins the party to travel through the mountains to find his family and help return Reubezahl to its former state.

Cosmi is the fourth and likely final regular party member and I have not yet developed her backstory, but she will likely be related to Bayonne or at least the southern continent of Drozd.

point taken. i'll write some mock-ups for bayonne and arzachel (two lead characters in the demo so far). however, the story at this point (in this demo at least) is rather simple and kind of hard to go into indepth. it's more about the atmosphere really.

edit: short bios for bayonne, arzachel, the callows family, and himmel now up.

I didn't get too far into the game, yet; I started playing but then real life happened. Of what I did play so far, here's what I had to write (mind you this is C&P from a notepad file I wrote while I was playing):

Not too shabby. I did find some things, though.

First thing I notice, the windows are transparent with a parallax in them. That's sort of... unnerving, to write the least. Like I'm on a floating continent, and the houses have holes in them.

When you meet Yuri before going to the King, and Arzachael introduces Bayonna. But then when you talk to the King, Arzachael doesn't know Bayonna's name because he never asked for it. So... why's he telling Yuri what Bayonna's name is?

Then you write "Red Sparrows can be found directly below town." Below the town? Like, what... do I have to dig up the streets? Are there sewers?

Your battle depth grid is way too deep and high. It looks like Bayonna's hugging the wall or something. Bring the characters down and closer together.

I can walk ON the bottom half of Arzachael's bed. And get my head cut off when I do. While I'm at it, I can also walk on top of the tables outside his house and get my head cut off by the umbrellas.

The fountain is frozen.

And that's it for now. I haven't left the town, yet.

the parallax might be unnerving (for some) but it's intentional.. it's supposed to be the reflection of the sky on the windows. it gives the city a bit of flair that i liked.

thanks for catching that yuri bit... i actually added that in AFTER i completed the majority of the demo and didn't even think about how arzachel didn't even know bayonne's name yet.

thanks for catching the other bits too, i'll change them soon enough.

the fountain will likely remain frozen though. tongue.gif

actually the fountain started to bother me after you pointed it out so i went and ripped an entirely new and now un-static fountain from another game and put it in.

i actually haven't fixed anything else besides that. laugh.gif

this is not just another shameless bump i swear. i've re-uploaded a version of the demo with some enhanced maps and fixed bugs. check it out in the first post if you want. if you've already played the original demo this one isn't that much different, but just letting you know. but if you've yet to play the demo, all the better.
