Things seemed to be going so well in the year of 2012. The battles and deaths in Iraq had greatly diminished. President Obama had created peace with many countries, and was to be reelected president in a few months. It all seemed to be going so perfectly...
...it was almost too perfect...
It was midnight on January 1st, 2013 when the destruction started. Hundreds of meteorites struck Earth's surface. Some were over 100 feet in diameter, some only a few inches. As to why no one could foresee this is a mystery. People around the world sat in fear that they would be the next ones to be hit.
Why did this happen? Phases.
*I don't want to spoil too much of the story, I wanna keep it sort of a mystery *
Game Play
This is an adventure/mystery game. The goal is to make this game's gameplay as realistic as possible, while keeping it interesting and fun. Because of the destruction caused, most areas will not be recognizable. I'm currently working a system that creates the character to look like the person playing the game. Though there will be enemies and battles in this game, it is far from the focus. Now, let me make myself clear: I am going to put a lot of work into the battle system, it's just not something that really matters as far as storyline goes. This game will focus mainly on puzzles, exploring, and (of course) an interesting storyline. I also plan implementing a stealth system.
Character Creation - Whether or not I will actually use this is still being decided; I'll save it for after I've gotten major progress. A system to make the character look like you, the player, is currently underway. Of course, that requires you inputting a good amount of information, which is entirely up to you; you can just put nonsense. I don't want it to seem like I'm trying to get your information, because well, I'm 13 years old but also, if you do put it in, it's not like I can access it from your computer anyway.
Action Battle System I'm sure most of you are familiar with Vlad's Requiem ABS. This game, thought battles will not be a very main or important part of it, will use a quite complex battle system that I am constructing from scratch. It will be similar to the Requiem ABS, because I'm quite familiar with it.
Weapons, Armor and Health System -- Please note that none of this information is final, and I may change some of it in the near future. I've decided to make something unique(as far as I am aware...) and new. There is no 'health' in this game, instead your armor gets damaged. Every time you get attacked part of your armor gets damaged. My goal is to make different body parts have different health, but I make no guarantees. The guns will run out of ammo. Most guns in this games are real guns, generally guns used by military. There are some other aspects to this system that I'm going to keep to my self, so as to make things a little more fun and new when you actually play the game.
Characters
There are a few rather main characters, but the main character isyou. There are a few other characters that play an important role. But again, telling you too much about these characters will spoil the game greatly.
Features
Oh shoot, I guess I covered most of this in the Gameplay section... whoops Well you get the idea. Keep in mind, there is a very modified system! Screenshots(1 map from each place I've made so far)
Note: These screenshots may be very outdated! Don't be surprised if newer screenshots look very different.

Disclaimer!
Many aspects of this game are not final. Story is still being improved every so often. Graphics are likely to be changed and enhanced. Don't be surprised if the first demo doesn't have these maps and/or has story changes.
If you see any problems, have ideas, or have questions, please speak up! Thanks

Seems like you're on the right track. Your story for one seems very unique and if you execute it well you'll have an immersive game. Sci fi games on VX are a rarity so that's one good thing about the project. The gameplay systems and mechanics you have planned also sound well thought out and are a far cry from the usual RPG formula. This is a good thing.
However, your mapping appears to need some work from what I can see. I understand that you are trying to make a barren type environment, but your maps appear to me to be far too sparse. You need to litter them with some more little bits and bobs, cracks, stones, debris etc.

Thanks! Yeah mapping was never my best skill O.o' I'll probably look at more mapping tutorials and others' maps to learn some more. Thanks for the heads-up! Although I'll admit that one gray map was actually the least debris/rock-filled one I've made. I didn't put enough time into it. Thanks for the nice comments on the story and such anyhow!
Off-Topic: what do you think of my earth drawing?

Okay, thousands of meteorites that were small would probably wipe out all life on earth. One meteorite over 100 miles in diameter would easily wipe out life. To put it in perspective, the one they think wiped out the dinosaurs was just over 6 miles. In fact, no land animal with a size greater than the size of a small chicken was able to survive (This I found with some very quick research.)
"Those that study this time frame believe that if man had inhabited the planet at this time, he surely would have been destroyed by this particular event. This event threw huge amounts of matter into the atmosphere in addition to this, it caused 2000 foot waves that may have all but completely emptied the Gulf of Mexico. This event created months of darkness (which interfered with photosynthesis) and much cooler temperatures globally, and the resulting harsh conditions which in turn led to the extinction of many species, including the last of the dinosaurs."
That's from one 6 mile meteorite - you have thousands like this no doubt. (Although the extinction n'that for this reason is only a theory, that's the sort of effects such a meteorite would have.)
The phrase 'write about what you know' comes to mind, if you still want to go ahead, at least do some research. It's far from 'as realistic as possible'.

Yikes, I should have done more research O.o' thanks for that. I haven't taken Earth science yet Although, when I said 'as realistic as possible' I was more talking about gameplay

Okays, I'd be careful when you work in areas such as this, that's all.

Hm, I like how you make this game so real time and as simular to our world as possible. But, since you said the President is Obama, I'm guessing the setting is the USA? I love the character creation system, I think it's really unique and will add to the game. Also, your weapons, armor and health system is really cool. My only problem with that is the fact that you will have swords in your game. I mean, I don't have a problem with swords, it's just the fact that you don't really see swords in this time era. Also, the mapping needs some work. It's not bad, but I think you can polish it up. All in all, great game so far, I look foward to the demo.

Yeah, I was kind of unsure if I wanted the swords. I suppose I'm better off getting rid of that idea? Also, I am planning on having multiple continents, primarily Europe and maybe Western Russia.

Yeah, maybe you could just have several type of guns or something. Also, I think that would make sense for the player to travel to different continents. Hope this projecct can get far!

I can easily say that this is one of the few games made on VX that I would actually enjoy. Besides the fact that you've broken the trend of most VX games using Yanfly scripts, you've got a good story going on there. It reminds me of Fallout 3. Your VX mapping is acceptable on the first screenie, but I usually only critique XP mapping, so I can't say much. Your font fits the style if you ask me. Looks like you're on the right track! Keep it up man, and hope you can come with a demo in the near future.

Well, due to the rather complicated scripts planned(entirely new battle, armor, and weapons systems) the demo may not be fore a very long time. Depending on how scripts for Realm of the Gods go(I can't just walk away from that, that would be cruel to Twilight ) progress may speed up, but until I have a good handle on all scripts planned for that, this game will be progressing slowly. There's also the factor that the story still needs tweaking and modifying. I hope the game meets your expectations Not too familiar with fallout 3, though judging by the little bits I've seen my neighbor play, I can see the similarity. Thanks so much for your support
In another note: Mapping is going quite well. The database is under construction.

Just so you all know, all my progress just got deleted. My computer froze then I shut it down, but RPG Maker broke all my files in the Data folder. So I just lost all my scripts, database, everything. I did manage to recover my maps after a little trouble. I'm gonna have to recreate everything else though. It's especially bad timing because I had spent a really long time making the database earlier today. Anyway, I just thought you'd all like to know.

Interesting scifi game, i like the story and i wonder how its going to be like when your game comes out i would try it out. btw that sucks about the computer froze and losing data. well good luck on your game!
Okay, so I really haven't been updating this topic that much. Of course, that's mainly because I haven't been making that much progress on the game; I've had a lot going on lately. Anyway, I've starting mapping some new areas, I'm hoping they'll come out better than the maps I posted here. I also started making what will act as the over world, and (with all modesty ) I think its coming out really well. I've reconstructed my scripts database mostly, though I haven't remade what I had of the battle system. I'm thinking of changing a few things in the story, but probably nothing to drastic. With recent excels in scripts for Realm of the Gods, I should have more time to work on this.
Haha thanks Because I just started school and next week I'm going to be starting Cross Country(running), this game's not going to be having much progress done for a little while. On the other hand, a friend of mine from my old school has offered to help, so when I find the time, things should start speeding up. My life is hectic

Well it's the weekend, which means progress! Because I am an utterly boring person, it's really all I have to do during the weeked(Summer was torture! I need school!!). Anyway, I've been working on things quite a bit today(and yesterday evening )
The new Weapon, Item and Magazine systems are under way, as well as the battle system (which includes new Battler and State class) The scripts are getting quite big Anyway, it's the weekend now, so I have time. I should have the basics for the battle system withing the next couple days! Also, I've created the Game_Informer class, which is a little thing that tells you when notable things happen (check screenshots spoiler, look at the bottom left corner of the last one) Here's a preview of what's coming
Well, I've been doing some mapping, and things are going quite well. I've also been working on improving and adding detail to the story a lot. I would explain things further, but hey, whats the point of plot-twists if you already know about them...?
-Credits list updated -screenshots updated(sort of) -updated everything else:D ------ Mapping is coming along quite nicely. As are the new HUDs. I actually really like how some of my recent maps have come out:) Also, I can't help but get the feeling no one really cares about this game... It may or may not have to do with how little I update it (compared to other threads, that is)
EDIT: Added poll, because clicking a poll option is easier than posting.

Hey, Rob Riv, it's a sci-fi story. It's science fiction. But, I guess if the creator really wants to get some facts in there, yeah, research should be done.
But, then again, the whole concept of 2012 doesn't revolve around the year itself, but rather a specific day: December 21, 2012. The winter solace. That's the theory behind the "Mayans predicted the end of the Earth in 2012" with their calendar machine.
So, pick and choose research and facts. I personally would like to see a story about the moon coming down on Earth. Or at least half of it. But, if a meteor only six miles in diameter wiped out all life, then I'm sure the moon would do worse.

Good to know; I actually was gonna get the main stuff done, then kind of fix it to fit more stuff like so. Coincidentally, I was going to have it happen in December:D
Thanks for the great feedback, Otaku Son :)
