Juno and Anea, two life-long friends from the forest discover an artifact during a treasure hunt. When an old Magus sees the artifact, Juno and Anea are caught up in an adventure that had been underway for many years and it’s up to them to tie the loose ends together.


Juno and Anea, two Felinx, grew up together in the Great Forest. Anea decided to leave the forest to fulfill her dream of getting her own airship, and Juno stayed behind to pursue his studies in magic.

After several years apart, Anea sent a message to Juno, asking him to join her on an adventure. He accepts and they reunite in the Skycity, Lavanta Ciel. Anea takes Juno treasure hunting, and they discover a strange artifact on their first exploration.

But when they take it back to the city, an old Magus tells them that he needs the artifact and requests their services in completing an adventure that had been started many years before: the search for a legendary floating island, the last remnant of an ancient Felinx tribe's civilisation, and a very dangerous power...


Juno - Juno is adept at learning magic, and decided to learn it extra hard on Anea's behalf. He can learn magic skills and uses Rods as his weapons.
Anea - Because she was not very good at using magic, Anea pursued other interests which led her to becoming captain of her own little airship, the Cloudchaser. She is a ranged fighter and uses Guns as her weapons.
Argus - ????
Tela - ????

Magus Rai - He knows the secret behind the artifact that Juno and Anea discovered, and has ties to an old group of explorers that was forcefully disbanded many years ago.
Rongol - Anea's self-proclaimed rival. Ever since Anea got to a treasure he was searching for before him, he has vowed to get his hands on whatever Anea wants before she can.
Ein and Marik - The other members of Rongol's gang. They're close friends, and not exactly enemies to Anea. However, they feel obliged to follow Rongol's orders which leads to a few confrontations between the party and the gang.


The Flow of Magic - This refers to the magical energies in the air. These energies are both given off and taken in by the environment. Because of this, the environment can be damaged if the energies are altered significantly.

Felinx - The Felinx are a race of creatures that are 'born from magic'. Because of this they tend to have a strong connection to the Flow of Magic and are usually adept at learning spells.

Velyn Tribe - An ancient tribe of Felinx that were exiled from the forest for altering the flow of magic and severly damaging part of the forest's environment. It is believed that they created their own floating island and concealed it in the sky after leaving the forest, which might be why stories about them stopped appearing after their exile.

Ongaia: Cloudchasers is not going to be a very long game, as far as I can tell. It should however provide an enjoyable and interesting experience, with a light-hearted but interesting story of discovery and adventure, several locations to explore, various sidequests, a completely original soundtrack, many custom graphics (mainly Battler graphics of both characters and enemies) and a few picture-based cutscenes with original art. So lets reiterate that in handy-dandy bullet point form:

  • A light-hearted and interesting story of discovery and adventure
  • Several locations to explore
  • Various sidequests to learn new skills and obtain new items
  • A completely original soundtrack
  • Many custom graphics (mainly character and enemy Battler graphics)
  • Some picture-based cutscenes with original art


Small note: I did make the battlers myself, and I did it in the style of those other sideview battlers that I have seen used in other projects. I thought it was a nice style to do them in, so that's how I made them. I am not trying to pass those other battlers off as my own.


Ongaia: Cloudchasers will have its own completely custom soundtrack. The majority of the music in game will be in MIDI format but I'm working on a few of High Quality MP3 versions of some tracks for listening purposes. I will update this topic with them when they're complete.

On another note, I have some music previews courtesy of SheezyArt, and a screenie that previews a tileset I edited together for one of the areas biggrin.gif

Cloudchasers MEDLEY - A mini-medley of about 4 themes including the main theme smile.gif
Magical Mist - BGM for Uruyan Vale. A snow-blanketed valley you visit later in the game.
Tomb of the Talon - BGM for the first 'dungeon', an underground tomb (the one in the tileset preview actually tongue.gif).
Shimmering Falls - BGM for a waterfall zone later on smile.gif
Battle on the Airship - BGM for the battles with Rongol and his gang. It sounds like a Russian dance XD


Here's some of the stuff for the Tomb of the Talon area. I feel that the main floor tile may need a variation or two...

I like the atmosphere of that screenshot. The edit you've done of the RTP looks alot better then the original(I guess it's an edit, right?)

I like this so far. Can't wait to see more progress of this.

A simple torch or 2 could really help with that map. I wish DA let you submit music like that. I like the Magical Mist song.

Any idea when you'll have a demo up?

Yeah, it's an edit, but I've tried to make them a little more interesting than just recolours :3

I'm working on the torches at the moment, and since I want them to be animated they'll be in charsets instead. I'll see if I can make them more dungeon specific, like stone torches stuck out of the wall with the flame on top. I wonder if I should also make it so the walls are lighter around the torches...
I wish you could submit music to dA too; it would make it a lot easier to manage the one account :[

Progress is being made, and the demo is on its way, but I have a lot of graphical work to finish before I can release it, so it might take a while (a month or two ^^; )

And secondly, that is my avatar yes XD But he's just a placeholder. I haven't finished any of this games characters' sprites yet, and since Neko was the character in my previous project, I had sprites handy. So I'm using him, as apposed to the over-used Aluxes.

Character doodles!
Juno - Oh hey, he looks exactly like Neko D: I'll need to fix that, maybe change his hair a little bit and also the colour of his fur...
Rongol - Oh hey, he looks like Ichigo from Bleach =_= I can't be arsed fixing that because it just happens to be like that. I'm actually really happy with his design.

HEY look at this:

I'm going to go back to using Inquisitor's trees for this. I foolishly thought I could get away with RTP trees in his custom tileset. I'm surely a foolishly foolish fool. Also, I'm making pulley lifts in this area (Talon Range) so that walking around it is slightly more interesting than when you just... walk around. This time there are lifts that move you up yaaaaay biggrin.gif
I haven't made the beam that connects the pulley to the cliff face, but I have made a counterweight graphic. However, putting it in would require so much more effort, patience and persistence than I am capable of. It's just that little bit over my limit >_> So yeah, it's up to you. It's magic, the counterweight is invisible or it's inside the cliff.
Also the little dude is one of the sprites for the Alun tribe who inhabit this area. I'm quite happy with him and his companions. I need only make the female sprites and then I'll have finished all the Alun NPC sprites~

So I'll still be beavering away at this game for a bit. I hope you're all still interested, if you ever were ;3

They're still only test shots until I make the main characters' sprites though. And begin to event the story happenings. And probably other stuff (especially NPCs and monster events which are mainly NON-EXISTENT :<)

Here we have the Adventurers' Hall. Not all the NPCs or their conversations have been implemented at this time.

These lifts work fully and I'm bloody glad they do because those events were TEDIOUS to make.

An (enemy-free) area in Tomb of the Talon. This tileset took a while to edit and put together, but I think the finished product is fiiiine smile.gif

Another area in Tomb of the Talon. Are those giant spiders lurking in the shadows?


Production of the demo is well underway, except for a snag or two (which I would love to have resolved ;3) and while I still have a lot to do, I have more time to do it at the moment. Unfortunately I have exams too, so there may be times where I don't work on my game because I'm sobbing in the corner after a dismal performance in the exam hall biggrin.gif

Oh yeah! I knew I hadn't added something. I'll amend the first post eventually. Until then, I'll put them here.


FEATURES
Original Soundtrack by me~ I'm actually really happy with the music I've been able to make for this game. I think it's an important part of the experience too and encourage you to really listen while you play XD
Non-random encounters - All of the enemies appear on the map and may or may not chase you (thanks to the Enemy Detect script ;D). This way you can choose to avoid battles if you need to, or get chased into a corner by several monsters and fight successive battles (be careful out there tongue.gif).
Drawn Cutscenes - I may or may not do this, but I may decide to have some scenes drawn, not animated, but a series of pictures, with a teensy bit of 'animation'. I've already done the intro like this, and I use watercolours biggrin.gif. It actually looks alright, and I find it easier to get the colours right like that than digitally.

New screens!


The wings will tell you where you can disembark. There isn't an anchor point for each area though, as some areas are only accessible from others.

I felt that having loads of trees together in this pseudo-3D affect looked better than a forest auto-tile.

Unfortunately, this is not a game where you visit every single area of the world. Which is awkward because the whole world is actually there.

This is the higher level, on/above the clouds. The darker bit in the upper right is part of the stormy section of cloud, which I'm still working on, presentation wise.

That airship sprite is just a placeholder, as I have yet to make my own.
Also, given the size of the map and the large number of events (on the higher map) there has been a recent development of event lag :|
Also, ifany scripters here could take a look at this topic it would be very helpful indeed.
