Hey,

Thanks for the reaction.
It makes me a bit more happy.
So I've recorded a tutorial on one of my scripts (New Menu Items), though it seemed that I can't upload a movie on youtube wich is longer than 10 min.
So I've to find a better solution for that I guess...

Thanks again.

Greatzz,
SojaBird.

How did I learned to script
QUOTE
Hey pim! I'm the Law G14!

For the past couple of months I've been learning RGSS and I've got the basic stuff down such windows, variables, conditional statements, ect. But, I can't see myself making big scripts such as a jumping system or a side view battle system. I was wondering how you learned to script because I really want to know how to script really well.

Thanks in advance.

Hey there,

Well I don't make battle neither though I can still teach you some things :)...
The way I've learned to script is by reading other scripts for the most part.
I've allways been interested in other peoples work but this time I though I had to try to make something myself...and it worked!!
The most importand thing when you go scripting is (at least in my case) that you want to make something to help an other wich can't script.
You also need to feel the competition that's around in the scripting-community.
Cause, I have to say, if you get pushed to get a sertain request done before an other scripter does, you feel POWERFULL!! :P
So that's an other thing...
You also don't need to be afraid to learn from others or helpfiles.
When I write my scripts, I actualy always have the helpfiles open to look things up I don't know or remember.
Then, you must be calm, cause you need to try the script a lot of times.
When I write a script, I test it after almost every changes.
First I set up the major structure.
Like when I make a window-script or part of a script I start with something like this:
CODE
class Window_Name < Window_Base
def initialize(x,y,width,height)
super(x,y,width,height)
refresh
end

def refresh
self.contents.clear
draw_contents
end

def draw_contents
draw_something(with, some, parameters)
end

def update
refresh if @something != @what_it_should_be
end
end
So that's also very important.
Then, the biggest thing I learned scripting from is TRIAL AND ERROR.
That's the most irritating way to learn something, cause it's more ERROR than TRIAL, but it does the trick realy good.

So that's it how I did it.
Now it's up to you.
Do some requests (if I didn't do it allready :P) and learn from them.

Hope that helped you out a little.
If not, keep your eye on the Scriptology-topic (see my sig) where I'll be updating for my scripting(video)tutorials.
Perhaps they're going to be usefull for you one day ;)

Just tell me what you think 'bout the:

- readabillety of the text on the screen;
- ...

So just tell me what you think, what can be improved and also...!!!
WHAT DO YOU GUY'S WANT ME TO START WITH?

Just checked out the video on veoh and I have to say, it looks great. I can see what's on your monitor very clearly so it's easy to follow along. Also, you pretty much explained every detail of the script. There shouldn't be any people confused after watching the video. Some may think that 20 minutes is too long but I personally like getting all the help I can get with things so I consider it a plus. Veoh is a good place to host videos because they don't restrict the length like on youtube. Your voice and the sound was clear and in sync with the video too. Basically, if this is what we're going to expect for the podcasts then I'm really looking forward to it. Looking good, man!

Hey,

Thanks for your respons smile.gif
I'm realy exited to go and make those video's right away now since I just like your resonse that much biggrin.gif
Well...thanks for letting me know this.
Now I know that I can record it in this way wink.gif
All I've to do now is making a neat site with hold the video's (embeded or something) so that's it's easy to accesses.

Though you'll have to wait just a little more since I'm getting to Sweden for 3 weeks in 5 days so don't expect me to be online here for some time them.
Though I guess you can wait just a bit longer now since, and I've to apollogies for that, you've been waiting for so long allready.

Greatzz and thanks,
SojaBird.

Hey aggiegwyn,

I'm not sure if you understand what I'm trying to achief with my podcast I'm going to make.
It's not about making maps or events...It's about using the scripting-engine RGSS2 from rpg maker vx.
You can make a catipilar script if you know the codes, you'll be able to learn those codes with those tutorials.
Though you can also just look the forum and find your script (there are a couple of them around).

Move? You meen movie.
I must say that it's nice to have you on the forum (welcome), but you realy should do something about your english cause it's not very understandable.
I'm not sure where your from, but perhaps you can find a forum in your own language if that's easer for you (not to shuss you).
Anyway, I've seen your other post (since you've only 2 now), and that was a request for exactly the same thing...so your post isn't realy on topic at all or something.
Now I know you ment movie instead of Move cause I read it in the other topic you've written at.
Now as the person there allready says, get berka's video player or what so ever.

So anyway, no begging. It won't help...well not with me.
I only help people I think it's interesting for me as well.
Also I have to understand it and think it's a challanges (such as my HUD's, it's not realy that diffecult anymore so I'm not working that much on them).

Well anyway, I also don't help people who just come on the forum and ask around screaming for help and such.
If you had read a little of the current topic posts you'll notice that it's not about screaming for help and all.
I bet ya didn't even read the very first post wich is (according to me) always the most importend one.

Well anyway,
Those where some free tips...or call it HELP if you want.

Go search the forum and read some ruels that are here as well so that you are able to get accepted on the forum.
Cause if you keep on rushing like this in several topics with don't go about the things you're spamming about, you won't get a good reputation and people won't want to help you.

So that's some tips for ya.

Greatzz,
SojaBird.

CODE
class Window_Name < Window_Base
def initialize(x,y,width,height)
super(x,y,width,height)
refresh
end

def refresh
self.contents.clear
draw_contents
end

def draw_contents
draw_something(with, some, parameters)
end

def update
refresh if @something != @what_it_should_be
end

Just tried the new video player site and i quickly noticed the videos loaded up fast and the quality was pretty good. In comparison to the old one they both look very similar but the new one has a larger screen which is nice. I liked the blue border from the old one however (looked cleaner). I suggest you post the site's link in the main post so that newcomers won't have to scroll through the posts and so they don't get confused. Anyways, this is looking good so far. thumbsup.gif

Well that depends...I could make a tutorial on questions that are very common among people.
Though for the little ones or not so common ones, perhaps I'll spend little time in a tutorial if it fits in there.

So I hope that awsers your question...wich is very vage.
"You accept request?" ... what kind of request?
So there's a very good chance that's not what you would like to hear but that's what you get if you don't explain it more wink.gif

If you want more info or a better awsner...try explaining your question a bit more.
