Hehe, oke.

Well ya're right, I must say that the use of the script is simple, but you do have to understand it a little before you get the hang of it tongue.gif ... or something, haha.

I'll make you a demo today wink.gif

How did I learned to script
QUOTE
Hey pim! I'm the Law G14!

For the past couple of months I've been learning RGSS and I've got the basic stuff down such windows, variables, conditional statements, ect. But, I can't see myself making big scripts such as a jumping system or a side view battle system. I was wondering how you learned to script because I really want to know how to script really well.

Thanks in advance.

Hey there,

Well I don't make battle neither though I can still teach you some things :)...
The way I've learned to script is by reading other scripts for the most part.
I've allways been interested in other peoples work but this time I though I had to try to make something myself...and it worked!!
The most importand thing when you go scripting is (at least in my case) that you want to make something to help an other wich can't script.
You also need to feel the competition that's around in the scripting-community.
Cause, I have to say, if you get pushed to get a sertain request done before an other scripter does, you feel POWERFULL!! :P
So that's an other thing...
You also don't need to be afraid to learn from others or helpfiles.
When I write my scripts, I actualy always have the helpfiles open to look things up I don't know or remember.
Then, you must be calm, cause you need to try the script a lot of times.
When I write a script, I test it after almost every changes.
First I set up the major structure.
Like when I make a window-script or part of a script I start with something like this:
CODE
class Window_Name < Window_Base
def initialize(x,y,width,height)
super(x,y,width,height)
refresh
end

def refresh
self.contents.clear
draw_contents
end

def draw_contents
draw_something(with, some, parameters)
end

def update
refresh if @something != @what_it_should_be
end
end
So that's also very important.
Then, the biggest thing I learned scripting from is TRIAL AND ERROR.
That's the most irritating way to learn something, cause it's more ERROR than TRIAL, but it does the trick realy good.

So that's it how I did it.
Now it's up to you.
Do some requests (if I didn't do it allready :P) and learn from them.

Hope that helped you out a little.
If not, keep your eye on the Scriptology-topic (see my sig) where I'll be updating for my scripting(video)tutorials.
Perhaps they're going to be usefull for you one day ;)

Update to v1.3

New in the update:
  • Set starting factions;
  • New call script "add_factions" so that you can add more factions at the same time;
  • Game_Temp changes into Game_System, so that I could scrap the Save and Load code of the factions from the script.

Hope you'll enjoy.

Greatzz,
SojaBird.

I seriously doubt there's going to be a demo. Really though the script isn't that complicated. Just read the instructions in the script.

Great script, very easy to use.

Is it possible to have more than eight factions at a time though? Without making the font smaller?

When I try to add in nine or more factions, I only shows the first eight.

Yep it's positble...Use the left and right arrow keys, or the R and L keys (gamepad keys (default Q and W I guess)) to scroll through the window.
So yea, put as many factions in it as you want.
It won't lag (I think) and is very easy to use wink.gif

Ah, I feel like I'm necroposting pinch.gif

But just a few quick questions (I hope).

Is it possible to have the reputations hidden? So you can't view them in the menu/ anywhere?
I was thinking about having a sort of friend system or something along those lines and was thinking about using the factions for individual people (party members, parents, certain townspeople, friends, etc.) but I didn't really want an entire reputation window for this, as I don't think it'd be realistic to be able to view how much someone else likes you tongue.gif

Secondly, is it possible to event/ script off of this so that let's say that you have 500 rep with mom, she'll give you a sword or something? Or if you have 2000 rep with little Suzie down the street you get to see a different cutscene than what you would normally see?

Thanks in advance,
Lenny

Hey Lenny,

Thanks for your idea. I'll sure will implent the display thing in the script before I'll upload the newest version of the script wich has been improved very much.
For the second thing you're asking for: You can allready use the conditional branch in the now-downloadable version. Just make a conditional branch in a event as useual but now choose the script radio-button. Put the condition there as following:
CODE
faction_value?("Mom", 500)
faction_value?("Suzie down the street", 2000)
Check the script info for a more detailed explanation wink.gif

Greatzz,
SojaBird.

PS. The new version will be up in like 3-4 days I hope biggrin.gif

Nice to hear from you biggrin.gif
And for a small update, I allready finished your request on the 'hide' thing.
It took me only a little effort and it's working now smile.gif
So I hope I can make you and many other very happy with it.

Tell me if there're other things you would like to see in the release, since I've run out of idears tongue.gif (Perhaps a good time to release the dam thing tongue.gif haha).

CODE
class Window_Name < Window_Base
def initialize(x,y,width,height)
super(x,y,width,height)
refresh
end

def refresh
self.contents.clear
draw_contents
end

def draw_contents
draw_something(with, some, parameters)
end

def update
refresh if @something != @what_it_should_be
end

Greatzz,
SojaBird.

Hey all,

I've just updated the script AND the demo to version 2.0.1 wich has some bug's fixed.
Also the demo has a little thing changes wich I forgot to turn back (eggs price back to zero).
When I did that, I noticed a bug wich I allready though to find after pulling some information off the script for a other one.

So that's fixed now.
Hope you like it, let me know smile.gif

Really nice script, is it possible to have it so when they reach max (100/100) that they become like friends and then there thing is set back to 0/100 but seeing as there your freinds the 0/100 is greater than the 99/100 hope I havn't been confusing.

[Show/Hide] Personality things

Your answers suggest you are a Strategist

The four aspects that make up this personality type are:

Summary of Strategists

* Quiet, easy-going and intellectually curious
* Use logical, objective thinking to find original solutions to problems
* Think of themselves as bright, logical and individualistic
* May be impractical, forgetting practical issues, such as paying bills or doing the shopping

More about Strategists

Strategists are quiet people who like to get to the heart of tough problems on their own and come up with innovative solutions. They analyse situations with a sceptical eye and develop ways of measuring everything, including themselves.

Strategists are the group most likely to say they are unhappy in their job, according to a UK survey.

Strategists are generally easy-going. They are intellectually curious and enjoy abstract ideas. Sometimes they like thinking of a solution to a problem more than taking practical steps to solve it.

In situations where they can't use their talents, are unappreciated, or not taken seriously, Strategists may become negatively critical or sarcastic. Under extreme stress, Strategists could be prone to inappropriate, tearful or angry outbursts.

Strategists may be insensitive to the emotional needs of others or how their behaviour impacts the people around them.
