Probably a stupid question but
how do I get a picture of the map I want
to put in the radar?

I have a pretty big map...

EDIT: I got the map, but when I turn the switch on, it
says that it couldn't find a map for <insert map number here>
I only want a map for the world map, and not any other.. ph34r.gif

EDIT2: If there was something like "If player is on this map,
show the picture for that map, and if the player is on
any other map, show the 'Back' Picture..." then I would be fine.

Well I don't make battle neither though I can still teach you some things :)...
The way I've learned to script is by reading other scripts for the most part.
I've allways been interested in other peoples work but this time I though I had to try to make something myself...and it worked!!
The most importand thing when you go scripting is (at least in my case) that you want to make something to help an other wich can't script.
You also need to feel the competition that's around in the scripting-community.
Cause, I have to say, if you get pushed to get a sertain request done before an other scripter does, you feel POWERFULL!! :P
So that's an other thing...
You also don't need to be afraid to learn from others or helpfiles.
When I write my scripts, I actualy always have the helpfiles open to look things up I don't know or remember.
Then, you must be calm, cause you need to try the script a lot of times.
When I write a script, I test it after almost every changes.
First I set up the major structure.
Like when I make a window-script or part of a script I start with something like this:
CODE
class Window_Name < Window_Base
def initialize(x,y,width,height)
super(x,y,width,height)
refresh
end

def refresh
self.contents.clear
draw_contents
end

def draw_contents
draw_something(with, some, parameters)
end

def update
refresh if @something != @what_it_should_be
end
end
So that's also very important.
Then, the biggest thing I learned scripting from is TRIAL AND ERROR.
That's the most irritating way to learn something, cause it's more ERROR than TRIAL, but it does the trick realy good.

So that's it how I did it.
Now it's up to you.
Do some requests (if I didn't do it allready :P) and learn from them.

No, I meant that if the Player is on a specific map
(For example, Map 2), then the script will be on,
and on any other map, the script will be off.
I'm not sure if turning a map off and on in-script
or in-game is possible.

But I'm not sure what the "Back Picture is for"

If it is shown when there is no map, then why am I
getting the problem where it can't find a map?

well actualy the back picture is to full the empty parts in the frame if the map doesn't fit in the frame cause it's not the right size (a 2x1 map in a 2x2 frame e.g.)

is the exlude or include function not in the script jet?

It didn't work for me. I copied and pasted the script under Materials. Then, I went and tested it. Before I did I relized this:


when 4
if $game_switches[Radar_Switch] or Input.press?(Key)

Should it be like that?
At the end, the:

It's extended far out. I've never seen a script like that. Maybe that's the cause of the error? I'm guessing that's not the main reason. The main reason is you included a sprite file that wasn't mention to the RGSS2 in the Script Manager. I think that may possibly be the problem. Tell me if that's right, because if it is, please tell me what I just said. Because I have no clue. Did I just sprout brain!?

The end end end and all at the bottom...that's correct.
So what error messages do you get?

Perhaps it has to do something with that picture that is missing?

Just a quick "stupid" question: how do I take a pic of the map? I mean, if there are characters aroung a screenshot will also capture them.. so is there a better way or do I have to do first the map, then the screenshot, and then add characters and all other stuff? thanks!

Okay, I've been having a few problems myself. (Due to my confusing of terms in the script itself no doubt...)

1: Where do I put a screen shot? What do I call it?
2: How do I activate/De-activate said map through switches in-game? Or with a "Key"? Does that involve Key Items? If so, I already have the script on my PC...

Also, your demo is pretty big, and therefore anyone with slow(er) internet will not be able to download it... It will take me like, 10 minutes to download it, and that means my parents will be mad... They don't like it when I download unnecessarily huge files to the PC... So, perhaps you should post more detailed instructions, and also post a mini-FAQ.

To make it smaller, get in the script and go to the "Picture Setup" part, there you can changes the size of the screen. The picture that's going to be displayed will be scaled so that it's going to fit (that is if you have the movement set to "move player-icon").

For the placement, go in the script again and go to the "Placement Setup" part. There you can set the position of the radar. For the upperright corner the script should look like this:
CODE
PlacementX = 3
PlacementY = 1

So that's also very important.
Then, the biggest thing I learned scripting from is TRIAL AND ERROR.
That's the most irritating way to learn something, cause it's more ERROR than TRIAL, but it does the trick realy good.

So that's it how I did it.
Now it's up to you.
Do some requests (if I didn't do it allready :P) and learn from them.

I have a request....

In my game... I want to use map in only one map (in world map...)

Well, the problem is if I don't set MapXX picture for every single map,

it will give me an error. (Like "MapXX can't be found")

Since there are over 200 maps in my project, I don't wanna set those pictures (It would be wasteful...)

Is there a way to solve this?

yes there is my friend...well actualy I though I'd included that function allready, though I'm not sure if it does in the uploaded one...let me see.

Oke it seems that there isn't that function build in...wich is lame.
I'll try to fix this, though I'm a bit bussy at the moment with the podcast that I'm setting up.

Well I don't make battle neither though I can still teach you some things :)...
The way I've learned to script is by reading other scripts for the most part.
I've allways been interested in other peoples work but this time I though I had to try to make something myself...and it worked!!
The most importand thing when you go scripting is (at least in my case) that you want to make something to help an other wich can't script.
You also need to feel the competition that's around in the scripting-community.
Cause, I have to say, if you get pushed to get a sertain request done before an other scripter does, you feel POWERFULL!! :P
So that's an other thing...
You also don't need to be afraid to learn from others or helpfiles.
When I write my scripts, I actualy always have the helpfiles open to look things up I don't know or remember.
Then, you must be calm, cause you need to try the script a lot of times.
When I write a script, I test it after almost every changes.
First I set up the major structure.
Like when I make a window-script or part of a script I start with something like this:

could you make it like final fantasy 7 so you look at the map when your on the world map and shows when you press a button and if you press it again its bigger
