So I'm working on a game called Slender: XP Edition, and I was just wondering if anyone would be interested in playing it, or if I should abandon it. I'm making the game in, obviously, RPG Maker XP, and I am using the FPLE script to make it a Doom-y kind of game.

Quite a lot of people have played the game Slender - The Eight Pages by Parsec Productions. It's been quite a while since there's been any massive hype about it like there used to be, so you may be thinking "why on earth are you making another one?" Well, mostly to impress my friends... xD
Really though, I am planning to include tons of game modes, including Survival, where you run from Slender as long as you can, and Classic, where you pick up pages just as in the normal game.
Second, the normal game mode (which will be comprised of 4 difficulties) will be harder than just simply going around and near mindlessly picking up pages. Instead, the player will need to solve puzzles to get into the next room, which will contain the next page. All the while, they are trying to escape Slender Man. So it has a bit more puzzle involved. If players don't like this kind of game play, they can simply play the Classic mode instead.
Also, since there is only 4-way movement, making 90 degree turns and all that jazz, it will add a new element to the horror. The fact that you could be moving around, and BAM he's right freaking there, instead of only moving an inch to the left to check, getting only a glimpse.
All of this put together could turn out to be a pretty good, fun game.
I am also thinking about making a mode where you are Slender Man, trying to catch the person picking up the notes... aaaand there could be a possibility for DLC for the final version, which would make it quite different than the other Slender games out there.
I'm currently in the process of making the music for the game. Yup, OST!!

So, who of you would be interested in this kind of game? Also, if you would like to provide some help, it'd be really cool. I'll give you the specifics later if you choose, but I REALLY need some textures for the walls, ground, and ceiling (which I'm probably going to make just stars, so it looks like you are outside) and also for Slender Man (and possibly the player if I end up making the Slender Man mode).

I would very much like to hear your guys' feedback on this happy.gif

Slender in RPG Maker...where have I seen that before wink.gif
If you are planning to create a Slender game a few things to note:

The Slender fad is somewhat unpopular all of a sudden due to the constant "Slender Clones". So that even games that AREN'T clones are VERY, VERY unpopular tongue.gif
to make an effective Slender game you've gotta consider how Slender is gonna "find" and chase you. Is he gonna appear outta nowhere, or constantly follow you.
Will it be in 3D? Or will you stick to 2D?
If you do decide to do it 3D, I would be VERY careful, otherwise it'll could be nothing but a clone and people will NOT react well to it tongue.gif

There already is a Slender game released in RPG Maker VX *cough* mine and Shaddowval*cough* that could give you a few ideas if you are heading in the 2D side of things.

It's tough tongue.gif Especially when you think of how you will set up the pages so that you have to search for them each time you play. The best thing about Slender; The 8 Pages is that the pages weren't always in the same place, and when Slender is creeping up behind you...and all you wanna do is find the pages and it's not there. It really does creep the hell outta people, also the fact that Slender can appear from ANYWHERE... is also something you have to consider smile.gif

I wish you the BEST of luck with Slender XP Edition It's challenging but it's possible

Thank you Jonnie!
I am going to be making it 3D. Like I said, DOOM-style. So it's like 3D/2D I guess. No models or anything. Has a very classic feel to it. I don't think I've yet seen a Slender Man game that looks anything like that.
He is going to appear in a different place each time you play, using variables and such. Then follow you. As the game progresses, he will get faster at different rates (depending on what difficulty you're on), and, if you are playing on Anorexic difficulty (just barely made that up), he will get faster, and you will get slower. This makes it, I hope, somewhat more of a terrifying experience, knowing that he is actually always FOLLOWING you, not just appearing out of nowhere. I'm going for more psychological scare than jump scare.
Also, the notes will appear in different places every time, with variables. I'm also thinking of randomizing the order/layout of the rooms, to make it even more diverse. Wouldn't be that hard, just time consuming.
Also, the different game modes and difficulties will add even more diversity to it. I know of only a few Slender games that have difficulties, and none that have different ways of playing them. Sure, there's like, day time mode and stuff like that. But I mean actually effecting game play.

And I was not aware that you made a Slender Man game xD I'll have to check it out some time.

Ooohhh I like it smile.gif If you want help with creating randomization, send me a PM, i don't mind giving you a hand. Creating random spawn points is something me and shaddow have a strange obsession with. smile.gif All of the games we are developing have some sort of randomization inputted into the game smile.gif
Slenderman's Army is actually FULLY random, although I will warn you something with variable randomization...it's a bitch to test, we learnt that the hard way tongue.gif

Okay cool thanks x) I've done a lot of randomization with variables before, so I know what I'm doing mostly haha x) I don't know if it is any different in VX but it's waaay easy in XP.
I just need a way to maybe randomize the actual layout of the maps... I think there's a script that does it. Completely at random too, no variables or anything, so it's completely different every time.
I have some critique on your game as well, I played it yesterday. I'm gonna' do a Let's Play of it (because I finally got my recording software working correctly) and I'll add my critique to that smile.gif

I dunno whether you wanted to use a script to reduce lag, but the random maps can be done with events, that's loaded from when you start the game and or save if that's what you want...I'd have to double check how RGSS setup the game, as with one of our other projects we have a random map start upon saving and loading using variables smile.gif

Looking forward to seeing what you think of Slenderman's Army tongue.gif

No there is a script that completely changes the layout, not just where the events are. Since I'm just using four-way movement and textures, it shouldn't be that hard. I just make floors everywhere and ceiling everywhere and let the script randomly generate where the walls go. But I'm still thinking about doing that. It may not look the greatest.
