I am fairly skilled at mapping in rmvx, but I seem to be having trouble building climbable mountains or passes through mountains. They always turn out looking odd or leave you walking on places you shouldn't be able too.

If someone could provide a tutorial or a few examples of mountains that a player can climb I would be forever grateful. It has delayed the process of my game for weeks because of my perfectionist streak.

I am not looking so much for a skill to rock climb as a design for a mountain map. I am currently using this.

Attached File  Map.png ( 759.77K ) Number of downloads: 25

and while it looks pretty enough, if I allow the player to walk on the top of the cliffs, then they can just walk from the cliff to the ground when it ends on the sides near the bridge. The only thing preventing them is the walls, which are not doing any good on the sides. I hope that clears up a bit more what I am asking. confused.gif

edit: Though that skill looks useful and I may use it in the future.

So, you want the persons to climb certain parts of the mountain?
Even though they can just walk/run to the set of stairs I am seeing right now?
Explain?

No, not at all. I put the stairs there so they can get up the path, that part is planned, but if you see they can walk on the lighter colored ground as well as the darker colored upper layers. So if you look over by the bridge you notice that the darker colored upper layer connects directly with the lighter colored ground, which allows the player to walk directly from one ground to another, ignoring the need to follow the path or use the bridge and makes walking look very strange.

Does VX has passage like on rmxp on tileset configuration? (Meaning the arrows in which the character can or can't walk on the specific tile)

If yes make the corners of the darker terrain not possible to reach it from the right to the left or vice versa.

it does have passage but it's on the autotile itself not individual pieces, and the edges are the same as the center sadly.

If I remember rightly there is a Program/script combo which KGC created for Tileset Extension which I think can solve your problem. Unfortunately I do not run Windows XP so am not positive on it's usage, but you can find the download for it here and Celianna wrote a little about how it works too, however this is only about the useage for Parallax mapping, but I am sure it can work in the same way for standard mapping smile.gif

Hope that helps biggrin.gif

Thanks, this is actually very helpful, I think I'm just going to parallax map it, as that will be simpler in the long run, this link is very helpful though.

If at any point you need assistance with parallax mapping there are some tutorials that are on RRR that will help. There are links inside my signature to lead you there biggrin.gif

This was sort of discussed in another site, and Indrah included some useful comments in one of her posts:

http://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?/t...ive-easy-steps/

In case you are unable to find her comment, here it is in quotes:

"@Amerk: What's the purpose of those areas and what are their main features? How do you separate the screens?
I'd tell you to first and foremost get a clear idea on WHAT the player does in those areas. Once you have the rough idea, think of how many "filler" or "corridor" areas you want and how you separate and connect the maps, and then do the actual mapping.

For example, the mountain path: If you're only meaning to connect two areas, I'd tell you to use either a winding road with a sky parallax in the background to show ascension and descension, you can use the cliff tiles to show elevation and so on, but I'm aware that on the whole the VX boxy tile style makes mountains on the whole tricky to map. It's a kind of cliche trick to make some maps that go through caves to connect various areas in the mointains, since caves and such are easier to map. If it's merely a road, keep a linear (not straight) path and maybe do a couple of small side roads or alternative channels with a few freebies.

Grasy plains and praeries have the difficulty of no real classic "divides" like thick tree walls of cliffs. If you want to keep the player on a more or less strict path (not a huge empty field) I'd say making a very slight elevation (not a cliff, just a slightly elevated path or an unwalkable terrain) around the road, and if necessary have the characters comments on "Don't go too far from the roads" to give the player some excuse as to why they can't step on that.

On the whole, wide open areas are not recommended, because they're a bitch to map and fill out, and may feel confusing to navigate. If you MUST map big spaces, try to have a clear route (dirt paths, non-grassy lines, guiding stones, etc) and plenty of landmarks so the player doesn't get lost."

Ok so. I'll keep it simple.
Rpg maker 2003.
Event.
Situation :
In my game, I have "monsters" that walk around, and ones your in their radius, they follow you and begin the battle.
however when they "follow" the player, it can take forever to shake them off(even with a run button)(multiple enemies)
so my Idea was "create walls so they have a limit on where to go".

problem :
I do not know, how can I code that into RPGmaker2003(eventwise)
"main"
(create walls for the npc's, not for the player)

solution :
not yet found.
-I have no clue-

Well it may not be walls exactly, but have you considered giving the monsters a timer, and when it expires they return to their original place and original radius, this will only keep them chasing the player if the player stays in the radius after the timer is up. Just a thought, it may not be the solution you are looking for.

Following from this, you could have them slow down after a little while, then a little more, and once they're far enough away they just stop running. This way they slowly drop back as you run away, then stop altogether, and then (maybe) head back where they came from.

Basically.
monster moves randomly.
if u get close to him(5 square blocks way) > he chases you and turns red.
if ur 1 block way > battle starts.

is aparallel process.
my tought was "place event on the maps(such as walls)
-looking for a "Persona 3-4 style"

I have checked the A-Z tutorial list, and even did a search, so it has left me to come to this thread. Does anyone have or can make a comprehensible tutorial on making music, especially in FL Studio? Like teach the basics of music making and looping etc etc?

I would like to create some music for my game, but I have no idea how to start and I would really like to learn to make music.

Thank you!

MagitekElite,

MagitekElite,

Have you checked the Audio Tutorials section. Although I am not sure whether there are many tutorials solidly for just FL Studio.

Hopefully someone with alot more FL Studio experience can give you a good tutorial happy.gif

Yes, that's one thing I needed, thank you so much! Its a shame this hasn't been updated in 2 years though.

If anyone else has any tutorials like that for beginnings and some tutorials for FL Studio, I would greatly appreciate it. smile.gif
