For some odd reason, I enjoy being scared because it raises my adrenaline levels. And I find myself trying to gross myself or shock myself into a scared state. I was wondering am I weird because I like that, and do any of you enjoy being scared?
P.S. I just found out I have a voice fetish. Yikes!! O_o

What is a voice fetish? That's like having an oxygen fetish; it's everywhere, lol. 0.o
I have a few friends who enjoy being scared (adrenaline addicts, lol), and they usually watch nothing but horror flicks and such. I'm not interested in that kind of stuffs, but I know my friends find it desirable (I consider it somewhat odd, but that's only because I don't share the pleasure, lol).
I read somewhere that people have a natural instinct to be scared because we use to hunt and fight for food and stuff like that so obviously being scared would happen a lot but since we don't do that anymore you seek out things that scare you reclaiming the primal insticts and getting the desired chemical response also that humans are the only creatures that can scare themselves although that part doesn't seem true to me but it's still interesting if it was

A voice fetish is basically when you're attracted to a certain type of voice, be it male or female. I have a thing for guys with female-pitched voices like my ex-boyfriend, his voice sounded like a woman's and it always made me more attracted to him for that reason. Never before did I realize I had a voice fetish until I actually sat back and though about it. And I enjoy being scared, but gore is a totally different thing, I never used to be affected by gore when I was little, I could watch movies with so much blood and gore in it and I wouldn't be affected.
But now that I'm older I have Ommatophobia (fear of trauma being done to eyes), Arachnaphobia, and one I can't even remember.

I always thought of a fetish as a more extreme form of preference than just a preference or attraction. I am attracted to certain voice types, but just as a preference (unlike a fetish, I don't look for guys with deep voices or whatever, but when I hear them I think they're pretty).
Is that last fear called Athazagoraphobia? (That's one of my fears: the fear of forgetting things, lol.)

I don't go to extremes to scare myself...
But I remember once, someone posted a video of someone jumping off a cliff and dying (Not here, old clan forums. The video turned out to be fake) It really bothered me. The next few days I found myself wanting to see the video for some odd reason... even though it bothered me and possibly scared me a little bit.
Tons of people watch scary movies or something because they enjoy the thrill of being scared. I guess it's something that's hard to explain, haha.

fetish noun 1. An object regarded with awe as being the embodiment or habitation of a potent spirit or as having magical potency. 2. Any object, idea, etc., eliciting unquestioning reverence, respect, or devotion: to make a fetish of high grades. 3. Psychology, any object or nongenital part of the body that causes a habitual erotic response or fixation.
Surprisingly, I never thought to find out the dictionary term for "fetish," at first I always thought fetish meant liking pain but as I looked further into it I was proved wrong. I'm proud of my squeaky, woman-voice fetish that I have. But it kind of unnerves me that I like guys with feminine voices, what exactly does that say about my psychology?

Yeah, like people posting reaction videos of themselves on YouTube watching things like 2 girls 1 cup, or 3 guys 1 hammer (which was real, by the way). Violence is sickening but unfortunately a turn-on for some, I couldn't see my self getting turned on from people smashing each others heads, even if it was fake. The only things I would get was an adrenaline rush and then a sudden urge to upchuck my previous meals.

Yeah, so I have a preference not a fetish, lol. I may prefer the voice type, but I certainly don't revere it or find erotic pleasure in it. XD

I always thought a fetish was something you "needed" to really get off. That this was the difference between preference and fetish, namely that of want vs need.
As for scary films, they are not really my thing, I get enough excitement in life, to give me my adrenaline fix.
I don't like being scared, but I do like horror films and games because I like to know exactly what it is that I'm afraid of. Why? So that if Jason or Freddie ever turns out to be real, I'll be prepared for it and won't feint when it happens.
I also just really love scary films, though I hardly find any that actually scares me....

I don't know if that will help prevent you from fainting, lol. When a situation is more relevant to you, then you have different emotions than if it is happening to someone else. Watching a film about someone being killed might stir your emotions, but when it happens to someone you know and love then it is a different story - you might be sad from a story, but when it is real to you, it is sad in a completely different way.
Not all the time, so yea, you are right about that.
But It has helped before, so I hope it will continue to prepare me for the worse. I've watched all sorts of horrors, including horror films that involves a group of people getting lost in the woods and getting attacked. Something very similar happened to me (alright, almost!) and it helps me not to panic or feint.
It is like watching survivor shows. You see what they do wrong or what you think might be helpful, and you learn and prepare from it.
Being scared for me would take someone showing me a movie like The Beyond, Tokyo Gore Police, Cannibal Holocaust, or something along those lines. Practically movies where any violence goes, but it also repulses me at the same time, yet I still have the desire to see them.
And my voice fetish/preference would be woman-sounding guys, but I'm not bi. Its so weird.
Insane stuff. I'm not going to bother to watch it.
Cannibal Holocaust; real animal deaths, rape with a spiked ball, cannibalism (hence the title), extreme blood and gore, peoples heads smashed in, and to top it all off, they assume that the deaths were fake, they still to this day do not know for sure. That movie is seriously worse than...then again, I think that August Underground, and the Guinea Pig series are worse. Thank God that I've never viewed any of them, needles getting stuck in the side of a girl's eye is not my definition of entertainment, it is just sick and the people who come up with movie ideas like that are sick. Disgusting.
That paragraph you conjured up is the exact reason why I'm not watching it.
Thank you. Seriously. Realistic scares/deaths can be cool but it's just incredibly unsettling to know that they ACTUALLY HAPPENED DURING FILMING.
Exactly, and when they said that the deaths were probably fake and that people shouldn't worry, that isn't enough, I would need a full guarantee that those deaths in movies were fake, not a half-a**ed presumption.
