  • If you say No to the tutorials in the beginning
    there is a black choice box that appears.
    This can be erased by opening up the menu (esc).
  • If you save at the chapel after defeating the troll, exit the game and re-enter the toll will be blocking your path into the chapel. Its best not to save on this map.
  • Sun beams sometimes break and or repeat on the Y axis....(issue since version 0.3.1+)


Story

Out Line

War of the Souls is a story told in a town about a war going on throughout the continent of Aleven. The character Trimithe and his friends will explore the town, the surrounding area and various guild halls as they battle not just for titles, items, gold and fame but also as they take part in a war between the Guilds Sagitaria and Malixia which, as time will tell, is nothing more than a pawn for the real evil at hand.


Full

The world of Balithia contains two major continents: Aleven and Balimore. Aleven, unlike Balimore is one kingdom rules over by a king, whereas Balimore is two provinces ruled by two separate people. Aleven is home to the city of Kaliz and the main town of Kalith where the whole story unfolds. You find yourself in the midst of a war between Sagitaria and Malixia. Trimithe leads the Sagitarioa guild as they do battle against other guilds in guild halls and various arenas in which you are teleported to by the pub keeper. While making a title for yourself and your guild you learn about the war that is happening between your guild and Malixia who is currently under the control of your Boy Friend Allimithe.

It is not long before you figure out the king has signed a declaration of war causing Malixia and Sagitaria into all-out war that affects the continent as a whole in terms of the economy and peoples attitude towards the war. You later find out that there is an ancient evil that was summoned by a princess ten thousand years before that now walks the earth along with the mysterious shadow ,mages that seem to do its bidding. This evil is responsible for the death of Allimithe and for the war that is waging upon the land. You also discover the king has been dead for some time and that this evil is controlling the land. Only can your love for Allimithe save the continent and the rest of the world from falling prey to evils at hand.



Game Features

Features


The whole game takes place in a town and the surrounding forest. You explore rich and detailed maps that look amazing on a 1080p monitor (assuming you have one) and meet interesting people. The town changes over the course of a game, people come and go, guilds arrive and leave. Pub keepers can transport you to arenas where you can do battle against other guilds.

Cut scenes and sag ways take place outside and inside the town, from castles to dungeons to forests and plains. The music alone is dynamic and mostly self-made with a few final fantasy tactic songs making their way in.

There are numerous things to do, place to go and people to talk to. Maps are small and compact, straight to the point while heavily detailed to give you that realistic and fantasy setting look.

The people alone in the town change, while the story progresses people all around the town will change in their views on different subjects like politics, war, economics, the latest gossip and more. With this kind of heavy and dynamic evening quests also change based upon the story.



Characters

Characters

The world of Aleven, while troubled with a terrible war contains characters that you will come to meet, play, come to love and understand as the story of war, love and diabolical evil overwhelm the main story. Some of the characters that you can play are located bellow

Characters You Will Play



Trimithe

Trimithe is the leader of the Sagitaria Guild which resides in the town of Kalith. Here Trimithe meets new guilds, new characters and even discovers more about himself, the war and love of his life Allimithe. Trimithe is a quite spoken leader who is on the search for the reason behind the king signing the declaration of war, forcing the two guilds Sagitaria and Malixia into civil war which is currently affecting the economic climate of the continent.

Allimithe

Allimithe is the leader of the Malixia Guild and the lover and boyfriend of Trimithe who is the leader of the Sagitaria Guild. While the two have come together before the war has started and fallen deeply in love to the fact where their love affects the outcome of the main story and they are both engaged in a civil war with their guilds. Allimithe is constantly seeking a way to find his way to the love of his life. He is a character who voices his disapproval of this war and eagers Trimithe to find a way to stop the war.

Anna

Anna is a quite girl who's own destiny is reviled early in the game when magic possesses her and subdues her only to kidnap her. We learn that this girl is related to the princess who summoned the shadow mages ten thousand years ago that then brought forth the ancient evil known as the "Firs"

Anna is later killed and the First takes her form and tricks the party into meeting her in the chapel of kendrix's basement after which a major battle takes place and we learn that the princess from ten thousand years ago never died that it was Anna all along.

Yavix

Yavix is a mage who is a part of Trimithes Guild and is in love with Leanna, while he bides his time, it is discovered later in the game that he falls deeply in love with her and they head off to the city to shop for supplies for the guild after the events of Anna and her kidnapping. It is here that he confesses his love and when they return alert Trimithe they plan to marry.

Leanna

Leanna is a quite spoken character who is a part of Trimithes guild and good friends with Anna. She is blind to what Anna has done in the sense of summoning the shadow mages and bringing about the doom of the world. She is also secretly in love with the mage Yavix but would never admit it until he confesses his love to her and asks her to marry him.


Jannet

Jannet is a part of Allimithes guild and his best friend. She comes to the party of Trimithe when he unites both the guilds after the death of Allimithe. She also comes to Trimithe when Allimithe is arrested on suspicion of terrorism after a bomb attacks the Guild Battle Tournament held once a year in the city of Kaliz. Not much is known about her accept we do find out her family and village were burned when a series of bombs attacked her home village. It is latter discovered she is an angel of heaven who is sent to guide Trimithe find himself after the death of his lover.

Levi

Levi is a character who speaks his mind and sais whatever he wants. He is also, like Jannet, a character who is a part of Allimithes guild and after Allimithe dies he confesses and falls for Trimithe. However Trimithes heart, while lusting for Levi belongs to that of Allimithe and it is later discovered that with the help of Levi and Trimithe is able to unlock the power of love and defeat The First.

What Happened to the old post?

I had it closed so I could start over. This game went through massive
Revision changes and I wanted to start the thread over. New leaf.

I found a bug?

What type? Where was it? Screen Shot?
What were you doing? Is it a serious crashing Bug?

  • I can't find these items you speak of that are on every map

    They are with in plants, bushes, grass (the tall stuff), rocks, barrels, broken pots, ruins.
    Every where you could place an event a player can get to is a place to look.

    By finding hidden items you raise your title for the hidden items.

    I tried speaking to an NPC but they said nothing to me

    Some, not all, will talk to you. this is being fixed through out the versions.
    But if you are familiar with some RPG's not EVERY npc will chat with
    you. - But hey I could be wrong. Also some will not talk to you IF you have
    not done previous events or talked to previous npcs. and example of this is the first pup
    in the game.

    Why is the game so large?

    Because of the music mostly.

    Convert the Music to Ogg?

    This has been tried, The music files then A are twice as big or B do not play
    in game. Some music files are Ogg, while others are MP3

    as of version 0.3.1 there are two full length songs in the game which will push the file size over 100 mb's
    the game has then been divided into two rars hopefully making the game smaller in download.

    you will download both rars and then unzip them to a location of your choice.


    Why do the maps look like they are floating?

    There not. Its a style that is controversial among gamers. I call it Final Fantasy Tactics style

    For fixing a serious crashing issue in the game. The issue was that players who died (if the whole party died) in a battle that did not cause a game over the game would freeze because of an infinite loop.

    He has taken the time from his day to fix this issue for me and I would like to thank him for Version 0.3.0 Build 650 and up. With out him this game would have come close to an end.

    It's a shame you got rid of the old thread, which may contain feedback that is simply going to be restated. For those that haven't seen, I reviewed this last month for my RPG Maker review blog. From reading the bugs section, it seems that the "Trimithe hardly ever getting a turn" bug is fixed, which should go a long way in improving the game play.

    I noticed that there are numerous spelling and grammatical errors in the text-images.

    Out of interest, does the demo completion time really take 5-6 extra hours if you're looking for the items on the maps?

    Yes. I had a friend play test through the game. Rob you may want to re do your review. its completely inaccurate in a lot of cases for this new game. For one the battle system is different. For two the entire character dialogue and dialogue in general was flushed through word, revamped and shouldn't contain AS many spelling and grammatical mistakes as before. The Characters have a deeper sense of well character behind them.

    Back on topic.

    When she (my friend) played through the game she had to ask me numerous time "I did this map couldn't find items, upon showing her there was at least 1 to 2 items on every map, maybe more. Plus with random battle its a good way to level - not that you should have to. (Keep in mind I am still re balancing enemies and characters)

    -- Total time it took her, looking for all items. 5.4 Hours - yes there were breaks so probably about 4 hours in total.*
    * I was there to help her out. I wont be there to help you guys out.

    Things to note:

    • Enemies grow to a certain level with characters.
    • The game is not about grinding to get that extra level, its about strategy.*
      *Keep in mind balancing is still happening through out the game.
    • I am not perfect so there may or may not be grammatical and spelling errors. I do how ever
      Have some one on another forum who downloaded the Unencrypted version and is apparently going through
      and fixing these issues.


    I have not disregarded the feed back from the old thread. I have started fresh taking it all into context. hence why I flushed everything through word, Added new scripts and character depth. I got rid of the old thread because of fighting, in some cases bashing and also because I wanted to have a fresh start.

    I would advise you to play through the game and do a re-review of the game. I find that your current one, although accurate for version 0.2.1 Beta 2 and below may discourage people from playing or even giving it a shot.


    Up coming changes Version 0.3.0 Beta


    • - Scene Tutorial Script has been used for Explaining Talent and Class switching.
    • - Two new stats have been added, DEX and Res.
    • - Enemies rebalanced and Characters rebalanced.
    • - Weapon and armor prices raised.
    • - Gold drop lowered, XP drop lowered*
      *in some cases


    Again. I restarted the thread for a fresh start on things. I am not saying I wont be taking feed back, I welcome it all. Yes I know there may be some spelling and grammatical issues. But I am using word for every thing now so that should dramatically cut back.

    One of the major things to note is the removal of the Tactical Battle System.

    Update to OP: New Bug added. Auto battle command doesn't seem to function >_< How ever those on auto battle do function as normal.

    I'm sure I'll review it again, at some point in the future, but I'm not going to re-review the game every time it gets updated, especially when there were a lot of careless errors in the first place.

    There are lots of mistakes that word would have picked up, for example, 'memebers'. I suggest that if you're going to use images for text, you check them to make sure there aren't any errors. Otherwise, just use text.

    What I will ask is what you did. If you (any of you) have a blog where you review games I am going to insist that you place the version number in the blog this way people reading it will know what version the game was reviewed on. I assumed, which was wrong, that your review was for the game as a whole no matter the version. - My apologies -

    I would like to raise a point. I do not make careless errors. Errors such that are placed and never fixed. I play test the game I am not a perfect grammar or spell checker. everything does go through word - and while I may miss out on some thing or be in a rush I usually go through and fix them. In the case of the images there is no excuse it probably is a careless error. Never the less it won't be fixed any time soon.

    When it comes to the game I play test heavily, not just looking for errors in graphics and scripts but in spelling and grammar. I have to admit this version is much, much better with that sort of thing then previous versions.

    I take some, not a a lot, offense to the word careless in conjunction with how you used it but will take my lumps as they come.

    **Thief is spelled wrong (I saw your post below this one) and will be fixed.

    Thank you for your feed back and hope to see more in the future.

    **Side note: Spelling and grammatical issues are not AS important to me as say the game working.
    While yes there may be some issues, no one is perfect - not even software. So i appreciate the pointing out of spelling mistakes and grammatical issues from every one.

    For those busy play testing I have come across a new bug - not so much a bug but an error on my side. Trimithe is a thief. When he should be
    a Ranger. This will be fixed in Version 0.3.0 Beta and should not impact game play. When you get thief as a reward for beating a boss he will already have it and not be rewarded.

    Some Technical Stuff

    I am thinking that Version 0.3.0 Beta will have 4 (5) parts instead of the usual 3 (4). 0.3.0 Beta should contain all new content along with fixes and what not, but I am thinking of releasing it as a "patch" so to speak with enemy, character, weapon and armor balancing. I am also thinking that 0.3.1 Beta 1 will contain the new content leaving 0.3.4 beta 4 as the final beta before RC. (typically it would version 0.3.3 Beta 3 as final beta. (1 content update, 2 patch(es), 1 content update). This way I get three patches and two content updates.

    To my lovely testers

    I am excited to hear what you all have to say of Version 0.2.3 Beta 2 Final Beta. I have worked long and hard to bring something to you that has less and less bugs - or at least bugs that don't crash or hinder you from playing the game.

    Feed Back Wanted!!


    On that note. I have a couple of developer screen shots for you all.
    Something to keep you in the mood.

    I have had a lot of people tell me they were "downloading and feed back when done" but I never got feed back sad.gif
    Maybe cause they didn't finish. But if they didn't or gave up Id still like to know why.

    Technical Stuff

    Changes are for version 0.3.0 Beta unreleased.


    • Re-Balanced enemies attacks, defense and HP
    • Added a Bestiary Script
    • Added an XP script - Characters now only get a max of 100 xp before leveling. xp amount from said creature goes down the more times you face it. Making grinding harder.
    • Adding FF Cursor Script - Looking for one that works with bestiary, WotS, DR has one but its broken with bestiary script.
    • Looking at reducing MP down to 100 for all players and thus skills would need to be rebalanced

    Wow this place is so dead. >_>. Either that or I am deeply hated <_<. No feed back for like a couple week(s) now. Sad face for the win. Any ways I have made some minor changes for version 0.3.0 Beta which should be out sometime in the month to come.


    Technical Jazz

    • Added more warrior skills.
    • Added more Black Mage skills. - Black Mage skills are complete
    • Added more White Mage skills. - White Mage skills are complete
    • Added more Time Mage skills.
    • Added more Thief skills.
    • Added more Dragoon skills
    • Added a new scene which you only get in the city:
    • Added ATB. enemies gauges don't display.

    I have Changed the tutorial on party changing for the game and allowed it to be in the menu for when you arrive in Emith.
    I have also implemented the new XP script, thus all players only need 100 xp per level. enemies loose XP as you continue to
    try and grind off them.

    Bestiary is added and I fixed a bug with it.
    Bestiary has been taken out in the next version of War of the Souls, Destinies reach because of compatibility issues.

    Changes to that party changer include the removal of the tutorial and the inclusion of party changer tin the menu from the beginning of the game

    Bump....(I has a request! biggrin.gif)

    My fourth self made bump....Whats wrong with this sight? I take it were all students?

    Any ways I am in need of a request: Will some one make me a title screen For this game?
    I am forced to (don't want to say this) remove the title script that displays a map in the back ground >_>.
    There is a serious compatibility issue it will fix with the party changer where when a player dies (the leader) it will shuffle to the next
    living player. With this script it throws a crash error upon starting at those lines that shuffle the player.

    So, if some one would make me a title screen I would be grateful.

    • Fixed: Party changer bug where if the leader is dead, the game will crash. I removed the "title" map script. Looking for some on to make me a title screen.

    Version 0.3.0.3 Beta
    Has been release. Please download and give me feed back.

    Version 0.3.0.3 Beta has a few changed such as fixes fro grammar, spelling, errors with scripts, battles and what not.
    Now the guild judges if you die will send you back to the pub instead of the game freezing.


    I am looking for detailed feed back on not just any bugs you find and what not but also on the story, the characters and how they develop.

    The game is good so far, only gotten to Vex right now. All though it's atrociously hard to keep the mage alive at all. Even with the best armor on, if anything even sneezes on her she dies. And on that note, almost any magic eats the entire team alive.

    Other than the grammar the only notable bug was that you can equip multiple Simple Hats in all of the extra slots. There are a few of the dead looking trees that you can walk all over as well.

    I take it you made Kayla a black mage? - nothing wrong with that.
    I will look into the enemy leveling for 0.3.1 Beta.

    I was actually referring to Anna, the white mage. I haven't changed anyone's class yet. Speaking of that the class change tutorial is off a bit; it never actually switches your class to Black Mage like it says and just continues on.

    With the other two characters in the best gear I have they live decently well except when they get blasted for 6-8 damage per spell, then it's a simple matter for any of the other enemies to finish them off.

    Edit: If you go into the Inn in Vex and go to the left rooms, you can't leave the one with the beds and there's a tile you can't exit from the second room. Easy to get stuck there.

    Edit 2: I'm actually stuck. After the troll fight Kaliven starts to fade but doesn't finish fading so the scene is stuck.

    I have fixed some issues and released a new version called 0.3.0.4 which fixes:

    • --> Fixed pass-ability issues in spots.
    • --> Fixed Scene issue after the troll battle
    • --> Fixed Enemy leveling issues

    I hope that version goes over better for you and that you are able to complete it with less issues then before.

    Hi,
    I'm getting a lot of crashes caused by exception 0xc000000d (INVALID PARAMETER) in RGSS202E.dll on my winxp sp1a. It seems specific to your games as I have quite a few games that use RGSS202E.dll with no problems. Any ideas?.

    A bit of good and bad news. I got past the troll fight, but then when you go into the chapel it freezes again because Kayla can't walk up over the broken tile on the floor. It's nice not being smacked around for 20 damage in that fight too.

    You can also walk on the statues outside of the chapel which is a good thing because that two tile high tree to the left of the chapel won't let you walk under the top square.

    I am sorry but I have never encountered such an error as I am on windows 7. Maybe if you upgrade to SP3?
    Again, I apologize for this issue, and have no way of helping you. maybe some one else here might know?

    Seems Like I am having a lot of pass ability issues with this version. Which I didn't have in beta testing. Hmm.


    Thanks for pointing this out. whats the enemy leveling like now? Is is a fair fight or is it "I'm smacking them around for 20 and wining with no effort"?

    • Version 0.3.0.5 released
    • Fixed pass-ability issue with the church.
    • increased enemy leveling by a smidge. (shouldn't notice too much of a change)


    Grammar issues


    I am aware that the game has some grammar and spelling issues. They will not be dealt with in Version 0.3.0.x Due to the fact that this version was suppose to be fixing bugs that caused people to not be able to play version 0.2.3 Final Beta 3. I will be taking a look at this in version 0.3.1 and 0.3.3 as they are the "add new content" while versions in between and the one after will be for bug fixing.

    Issues with 0.3.0 lead to .x

    Some of you may know that I have been releasing 0.3.0.x versions of the game to fix the pass-ability issues and make the game playable. I hope that version 0.3.0.5 fixes all those issues as I have gone through and looked at all the troubled (or most of the troubled) spots that have been pointed out.


    0.3.0.1 - 0.3.0.3 have been fixing things like enemies, skills, weapons, pass-ability and the occasional crippling spelling mistake. .x versions are "must release ASAP" versions that get the crucial crashing bugs out of the players wat, and while this may be a turn off to alot of players, I can't know if the game is perfect if you guys don't play. While i have played through and not discovered (either by fluke or some other reason) some of these issues, its good that you guys are.
