Fragile Hearts is an anime inspired comedy RPG, with 8 complete episodes in total. It is a remake of the old tech demo version with completely new gameplay and improved areas and layouts.

This game features hilarious anime portraits, 2D environments, and some really funny characters and plot twists. The complete game is now finished and work has begun on the sequel.

PLOT

What do a "wanted" knight, an unemployed witch, a talking cat, and a bumbling old wizard all have in common? They're all charged with the generic RPG task of finding the "Chosen one" and fulfilling a tired prophecy to save the world from a resurrected evil overlord! Follow a small band of "replacement" heroes as they do their best to foil the evil toils of the overlord. You'll meet many interesting characters along the way, like Amia, the crippled dominatrix, Poko, a blob that everyone wishes would die, and Iggsley, some stupid kid's imaginary friend.

SPECIAL FEATURES

-An animal recruitment system
-8 full length episodes
-Consequential endings which will drastically change the world for the sequel
-Boasting with extra content, including a director's cut (development hell)

SCREENSHOTS

CHARACTERS

Show

Fergus
He's not the "Chosen One", but he'll have to do.

Haddy
A recent graduate from the witch academy who has fallen under rough times.

Midard
The high wizard of the lands. His mind isn't quite what it used to be.

Gulliver
Formerly a perverted drunk, Haddy turned this lunatic into a talking pet cat.

Changes made since old and now defunct tech demo:
-scrapped battle system and swapped in 2k3 battles, added for every character.
-Made enemy encounters visible throughout.
-Added more funny dialogue and text to the game, including items and skills.
-Completed items and skills for the first 3 episodes.
-Improved dialogue.
-Added intro movie.
-Rebuilt areas of the game for a more aesthetically pleasing experience.
-Added directions for Midard's vortex level.
-Fixed small bugs mentioned in the review.
-Fixed tileset passibility errors (to the best of my knowledge).

Changes made for the final version:
-Walkthrough included
-Loads of bug fixes
-More area improvements
-Added more items throughout
-Episodes 7 and 8 included

Great to see the game over here as well, however I'm trying to figure out what this "animal recruitment" thing is. Did I somehow miss it in my playthrough, or was this added recently?

Also, if there is a way to speed up the ATB, that would help make fights feel a little smoother and less time consuming. RM2K3 has one of the slowest battle systems I've seen in any of the editors.

lol the recruitment system turned out more like an adoption system haha, and I never ended up adding any more past chapter four. Definitely something I should add more of for future updates.

I agree with the active time battles being too slow, not really sure how to mend the problem though. Remember how slow it gets fighting the trolls in chapter 5? I have no idea what it was that caused that change, it wasn't agility as I had originally assumed. I'm gonna read through some tutorials for the sequel and hopefully I can come across a solution in doing so.

After doing some digging I found this comment (quoted in bold italics below) on RPG Crisis by Lyricalias

As you all probably know, RPG Maker 2003 is notorious for having a really slow battle system. I never really experimented much with fixing the issue, but I just opened it up and managed to get the ATB bars to fill up very fast:

Change your heroes so that their agility is low - like, level 1 = 1 agility low. The end point for Agility progression should be like 100 or maybe 200.

Now, go to your monsters and change them so they balance along - weak enemies having 1 agility, in other words. Bam, fast battles.

I have no idea if this is commonly known or what, but I've played a lot of RPG Maker games with mind-numbingly slow battles, so I thought I'd share.

So you could give that a try and if it works maybe post a topic in our own 2K3 forum that explains this and acknowledges credit to this person as well.

Edit: Unfortunately, it sounds as if that means monsters will theoretically match the player's agility 1 for 1, which sort of takes the edge off who will fight first, but a faster battle system may be worth the sacrifice.

On what platform does it work?
RMXP, RMVX or RM2K3?
It requires RTP to be played?
You haven't specified requirements...

Jens

EDIT: nevermind, I figured it out...

What became of Mega Upload? Anyways, I've always liked Mediafire better, as it's much faster.

That's encouraging then, I'd hate to have to find yet another sharing site. Mediafire's always been a favorite of mine.

There's a thread open in General Discussion to talk about Megaupload and the like.

Try to keep the discussions centered on the game and thus on topic.

Your game sounds pretty humorous. You've obviously done a good job with it by the screenshots, though because of the Character busts being from famous RPGs and Animes I kinda thought this was a fan game.
I hope more people come in and play it. It looks fun. Have you submitted it to the main site page?

Yep, it's been on the main page for much longer than I figured it would be. Not that I'm complaining lol.

For those of you wondering about sequel progress, it's been pretty significant. Here are some screenshot previews for those that are interested in where the series is going:

I'm still working on the maps and portraits, so they're WIPs. I've got a nifty intro and nearly two complete episodes finished so far and production is ongoing. I had been preparing graphics and such for it well before I finished the last couple episodes for the first game, so I had a good head start.

New version has been uploaded (1.2). Fixed some bugs, changed battle music, added environmental descriptions for pretty much everything in the game.

Version 1.3 has been uploaded. This is the final version of the game, and features a whole lot more gameplay for episode 8, a tweaked battle system and balancing, fixed bugs, new skills, and various sidequests. It's a HUGE update, so I hope you all enjoy!

Stay tuned for the sequel!

Tales of Symphonia is probably my all time favorite RPG ever; curse you for using Tales character sprites LOL!! No but really this looks pretty good I think I'll try it out.

Haha, well the first game uses Mac and Blue sprites, only the sequel uses Tales ones. I'll try to do them justice wink.gif
