How to make a widescreen effect for cutscenes!
By Avi

Images Needed:
~Open~

Making the bars come on-screen:
~Open~
  1. Wait 5 Frames (This isn't needed, but I like doing it)
  2. Show Picture 1: "Widescreen1"
  3. Wait 5 Frames
  4. Show Picture 2: "Widescreen2"
  5. Wait 5 Frames
  6. Show Picture 3: "Widescreen 3"
Your event should look like this:

THE LAST COMMAND IS SUPPOSED TO BE "Show Picture: 3" not 1. I messed up while making the event.

Getting rid of it:
~Open~
  1. Wait 5 Frames
  2. Erase Picture: 3
  3. Wait 5 Frames
  4. Erase Picture: 2
  5. Wait 5 Frames
  6. Erase Picture: 1
Your event should look like this:

What it will look like in-game:
~Open~

^With widescreen...

^Without widescreen!

Well, that's the tutorial. It's really quick and simple.
Ciao~!

P.S. No credit is needed for the pictures. I just made them in about a minute. tongue.gif

I saw this over on vx.net, it actually is a really clever way of doing this tongue.gif

It is also a good alternative to scripting and also ALOT easily tongue.gif

Wow, this is really well done smile.gif
Thanks so much for this. I'm sure it will be helpful for many people in the future, including myself smile.gif In fact, I never thought of a wide screen effect before, and now I can think of a ton of things that I could use it for.
Thanks again!

Wow, I have to say I'm amazed I have not seen this before. I think this is a very simple and clever way to bring a little bit more to a game's cutscenes. Nice work!

That is a nice tip acctually.
Also; if you don't have the widescreen effect on the whole game and only on cutscenes or so, you could make it even more awesome by having two images that start to show outside of the screen and then have them move in slowly. I did that and it looked awesome! biggrin.gif

Nice little tutorial, I was doing this before in RPG maker 2003, and was going to post a tutorial on it, but someone beat me to it, nice work! It really does at "coolness" to your cutscenes
