Hiya guys. This is a project i've been pondering for awhile, and started around a week ago. Oracle Engine
is an open source, game development kit with a system similar to that of "The Legend Of Zelda; Oracle of" Series,
or Final Fantasy Adventure.(Think dungeon crawler RPG with an ABS system) Anyways, I am working on this
project while I learn C programming, and to help promote RRR and Game Editor. Oracle Engine is built in Game Editor,
a C, C#, and C++ game creator. (It's pretty much a visual coding program, and it is also open source.) And i'm going to be releasing the source code to you guys to see what you can make with it. smile.gif



~| RRR only, until a big, major release

~| A GBC FFA like battle system
~| Single Player adventure
~| 2-4 player Cooperative Play
~| Custom graphics, music, and sound
~| Online Play (In the far future.)
~| Open Source, so you can make your own!
~| Pixel Precise movement
~| Weapon and Item Upgrades
~| Menu's, Titlescreen, etc.
~| Much, much more, that i'm not going to write yet. tongue.gif


I know the mapping isn't great, but an example; The statues are throwing fireballs while I run around the room. XD

Some more statues, and objects.


Q. So, if Oracle Engine is open source, does that mean it's free? Even commercially?
A. Yes, Oracle Engine is free, commercial or not. Game Editor is also free, except a commercial license is $99.

Q. Your doing this all by yourself? Graphics, programming, music and sound is quite a lot to do.
A. Well, yes, but I am not very good at making music and sound effects. I will be looking for a musician for
music and sound, though.

Q. So, is this an SDK or...?
A. Pretty much, yes.

Q. Do you need any help with it?
A. I could use somebody who is good at creating music and sound effects.

Q. Why are the game screenshots so small?
A. Because the tiles are made at 16px x 16px, unlike RPG Maker whereas they are made at 32px x 32px.


Q. Oh, ok. Are you going to make any 32px x 32px Kits?
A. Yes! I will make a kit version where everything is blown up x2, even the window.(16 x 2 = 32) lol.

Do the pots look out of place, or is it just me?

It's amazing what sound effects and background music can do for the depth and feel to a video game.




Build** 58;

~| Added sound effects from OOA/OOS, and some background music.
~| Finished the normal sword animations.
~| Sword updates;
- Will now "clink" when striking a wall or hard object.
- "Swishes" through the air, with three different sound effects.(Randomly)
- Cleaned up the code, animations now not so rough.
~| Finished spriting some more animations for the hero.
~| Finished some clutter tiles and objects;
~| Sprited more statues.(In 4 more colors; Baldy - blue, Girly - purple, Woe Is Me - green, and Hooded - grey)



** Will release a little, playable sneak peek in the next update.

~| Realistic or Default Sword Swinging
~| Pots, Jars, smashing animations
~| Worked out some bugs with collisions
~| Fireball Deflecting! (Kinda like the phantom ganon battle in Wind Waker)
~| Default screen scrolling
~| Minor fixes


* I said there would be a demo, but I forgot to prepare one. I will post one soon.

I've got most of the hard coding done, and I have also got most of the hard coding done for games similar to that of "Mega Jump"(an ipod/iphone game.)
I'm working on cleaning up what i've got( I <3 Functions! ) and coding in some eye candy. Stay tuned! biggrin.gif

Super Jump Screenie;
Sorry about the quality, ImgShack is having issues today. The first number is the score, second number is the elevation.
I've also got the magnet powerup.(That's why most of the coins are below me.) Most graphics won't be in the release, especially not the background.


Also, this thread is starting to sound like a GUC. Should it be moved?

I have tried and tried taking video's of my stuff. I suck at it and it always lags. I'll give you guys a demo, and maybe someone else can do a vid for our indie gaming network or something. XD

This looks pretty cool so far. I'm currently exploring with an SDK kit called Cide. Hoping to develop some old school 8-bit rpgs I can port from java to apk so I can load them to the android and apple markets. Keep up the good work. I'd like to see this thing running. Any graphic help or advice I can provide will be my honor. Until then, kill a dragon a day.

I'm looking for midi music, loop-able if possible. At the moment this project is on hold while I transfer to a different IDE that's more open.

Since I will be going in and editing the music myself, I can't have any strings attached other then original composition credit.

There isn't really much to do with it yet, unless your already familiar with C# and Game Editor. I haven't released anything yet because of this. Although, I can if you guys would like.

So, this will come with a default package such as the Link one you are using in your pictures?
