I've been making this project for three months now. I have the settings, the characters, the bosses, the story, the gameplay. Everything is ready to go. However, I have been staring at a blank page for a lot of time because of this little problem. I'm not really sure on how start to make weapons to the database.

I have 7 weapon types, which are your typical RPG weapons: Swords, Lances, Bows, Axes, Staves, Daggers, and Whips:
Swords: They typically offer a higher chance of critical hits.
Lances: They typically offer a higher chance of second commands (attacking twice in the same turn.)
Bows: They need ammo (arrows).
Axes: You need both hands with all axes.
Staves: Amplifies magical attack and makes your magic more powerful.
Daggers: Every class in my game can use daggers, and they're useful for stealing items from an opponent
Whips: They can stun an opponent

The best I can think of is material-based weapons like in Minecraft (Wood, Stone, Steel, Gold, Diamond), but that's seriously uncreative. I'm asking you guys if you could give me advice on making weapons? I would love to have all sorts of weapons, but I want every weapon to be unique in its own way, kinda like how the weapon types are different one another. Any suggestions?

Oh you asked the right question and youll get the right answer!

Historical accurate weapons! happy.gif Lets say you have a sword right? Wrong, what kind of sword is it? What time period is it from? You have the broad sword, you have the roman short sword(gladius) think i spelled that wrong btw. You have the claymore, the rapier, and for stat info help just google or wipeki the name and you will get there info happy.gif

I agree with Lato. Use history to help you out. Of course you can deviate from the original history and make it a bit unique based on your game. Get the concept from history and make up the rest for your game. Like a Katana, well I don't like Katana's cause it's everywhere lol so lets say a Wakizashi. A wakizashi is a short sword used by samurai. I think it's around 19 inches long so it's not a dagger. So now that you have the concept make up your own history for.

i'm actually working on a game about weapons. XD U can check out the links i've been using if u want, they were very helpful for me.

Weapons by type, user, target, origin, and era: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Weapons

i'm not sure about the genre of ur game, but u can also try to just make things up/ do something a bit outside the box.
Like for swords, you could use an asian fan, sharp paper, scissors, chainsaw, etc.
Clubs could be a leg bone, rolled-up newspaper, books, lunch box, etc.
Whips could be shoe laces, belts, Christmas garlands, towels, etc.
Staves could be microphones, street signs, violin bows, planks of wood, etc.

U could also maybe try dividing up the weapons in another way, that might help; i.e., by era, user, size, country of origin, how dangerous it is.

Watch Deadliest Warrior! It's on Netflix and Spike TV if you have cable in the U.S. The last season has been ridiculous with vampire v.s. zombie type battles, but the first two seasons have matchings like vikings v.s. samurais, apaches v.s. gladiators, Persian immortals v.s. Ancient Celts, IRA v.s. the Taliban, etc. and they show off weapons that they use/d. The show is pretty silly but I've learned a lot about weapons and armor.

I like the idea of each weapon having benefits and drawbacks. Would all of your characters be able to equip any weapon or is each one limited to a few? That'll be important in setting up battle strategies.
