Dragon Fantasy: Venaitura

This is an epic tale involving four youths and their struggle to bring down a power-hungry man bent on the total annihilation of the demon race. Lead by an overwhelming display of both fear and madness, the self-proclaimed "Dark King" has given rise to the dreaded fortress of Venaitura in order to exact justice against the grotesque and pale-faced monstrosities of the Dark World. However, things are not as they appear...

Accompany Aaron, a young and local hero, along with his sister Buima; Reynold, Aaron`s stalker; and Fern, a wanderer on their quest through the dreaded fortress in an adventure that may have a deeper meaning than first implied.

Fight against hordes of monsters, solve the mysteries of the dark palace, and collect items to gain stats all the while inching closer and closer to the final goal: the Dark King himself! Will Aaron and his group of unlikely heroes manage to overthrow the Dark King and bring salvation to the Demon race? Only you can decide!

Main new features:

-High-quality MP3 tunes that add a certain flair that can't be replicated through MIDI's and NES-esque music.

-No more Leveling up! In this game you BUY your stats from an Item Salesman and choose which stat you wish to increase! Choose wisely...and carefully!

-No random encounters! Touch-encounters are in! Woot!

-Deeper storyline. Experience a much deeper story than any of the other Dragon Fantasies before it!

Screenshots!

Experience many great character cut-ins in where some of the major characters of the game reveal to you vital plot-points and even challenge Aaron and his party to terrifying duels!

Battle against hordes of monstrous entities who are set on bringing you down! Also, experience the great touch-encounter system! No more random battles. Want to skip a battle? Then run straight on passed the dumbfounded creature! But be warned...run from too many battles and you'll be in poor shape for the higher levels of the Fortress!

Explore the beautiful--yet deadly--fortress of the Goddess Celes in all of its new-found spledor.

Learn of the dreaded Dark King and his gruesome plans involving the total annihilation of the Demon race!

I endorse this game. It's not out of any ulterior motives, but because I really enjoyed it.

I would review it, but for various reasons I feel my impartiality would be a difficult thing to maintain.

Yus. Do not let its NES graphics fool you! It feels (almost) nothing like an NES game. It's sort of an odd little project compiled of a bunch of strange and different things. Still, I'm glad I've got Garlyle's support! Bwa ha ha.

Oi, and Gralyle, I've gone and added a nifty little opening sequence in to the game instead of having it just start off with the Dark King's rant. I've also added an optional area, a new storyline sequence after progressing through the Demon Society, and ...I think that's it. And that's also another few reasons as to why it wouldn't be wise for you to review it...unless it was based off of the stuff you yourself experience. God, I'd love another one by you. =O

But oh well. Let's see who the taker (if any) will be!

Anywhoo, have fun everyone! I know that I did creating it.

You know, overall this game didn't really receive all that much attention. does the name "Dragon Fantasy" put people off, or is it the graphics? Ha ha. I see that there are over 100+ downloads, and yet there are hardly ANY comments to be found on any site! I'm....confuzzled!

Anywhoo, thanks for the download, LC! Let's just hope you're not one to download and not return!

It was a pretty good game, and it's a shame it doesn't have many comments. I for one like the graphics (I've always been a sucker for NES), and I also enjoy how you have to buy your stats rather than gain them the traditional way. The soundtrack was marvelous, and did not show any signs of clashing with the retro atmosphere. I was kept entertained for a good while, and I can't wait to see what you will cook up next. happy.gif

Bua ha ha ha ha! Awesome. I was a bit hesitant to make the stat-gaining system the way it was, but it was surprisingly good! You'd think that it'd be easily abused and broken, but to my astonishment...it wasn't! It's actually quite hard to break if you're trying to level all of your characters up and not just a single person.

Thank you for playing. However, I'm going to have to ask you another question: How was the story? What'd you think of it all? You know...the characters, the happenings, the ending, etc. What's your opinion on it all?

Tell you what, before I answer those questions I want to go back and play through it again. I played your game last week, so before I answer I want to refresh, and get a more detailed play. I'll tell you this though, because this lays fresh in my mind. I loved how the characters interacted with each other. You had Aaron who was the confident hero, then you had his somewhat doubting level headed sister, then there was the man who was basically in love with Aaron (someone who would change his morals just to agree with him), and then of course Fern who sorta completed the mix. Now, if you will excuse me, back into the world of Venaitura. happy.gif

Hm? Really? Are you INSANE, or did you just really like the game that much? I mean, sure, it's not all that long, but I didn't think my question would warrant another play-through! That's awesome. Ha ha ha.

Did you happen to complete the Optional part of the game (and its two bosses) during your first time through it? I made a little mistake and because of it the music that plays during the optional battle plays in all battles after that one. Haa. But oh well, it's nothing too serious!

Can't wait to see your opinion on it all.

Ah, another Dragon Fantasy game. I've played the first two and really enjoyed how well they managed to emulate an old NES style game, and as I recall, your series was the first to accomplish this. I'll give this a go and give you some feedback when I can.

Perfect. I can't wait until you get the review done, Dark Gaia! Woot! Though remember: it's not really supposed to be like an NES game (only in looks). Can't wait to hear your opinion on the new installment.

Ah, that's good. I should expect some modernized features in it then. Modern systems... NES charm... I think we're onto something here!

Indeed, good sir. it was sort of an experimentation... I wanted to see what the result would be like were I to fuse a decent number of aspects from other generations in to one. And I thought the result was great! It definitly felt nice to me, regardless of how short it was. The SEGA CD music even blends in with the look of these NES graphics. It's kind of cool, actually.

Hi there RPG RPG Revolution users. I've always been an unregistered guest in these parts, but after I saw this topic I felt the need to register.
One look at the screenshots and I saw that these are sprites from Chaos World (guess which gaming console it's for). The DF II playthrough on Youtube also seems to have uncanny resemblance to many graphics used in Chaos World.
I don't mean to be accusatory or anything, but shouldn't you at least give Natsume some credit for the monster sprites you used?

I do like this game, though. The beginning intro was a little bit too long though.

Hm? Yeah, I tend to forget to do stuff like that. I just go on a spree and start gathering resources and often forget who exactly I got them off of. Still, I didn't see any name stating who they were ripped by or anything, so...I try to include the people I remeber, though, as I do have a little credits sheet included.

Figured I'd at least drop a post in. Finished this today, and really had a great time. As to your question of whether the title Dragon Fantasy puts people off. Well that is probably what is happening to some degree. The title made me cringe a bit(not the graphics mind you), but I'm really glad I checked it out. smile.gif

Ah ok. The game would be Chaos World by Natsume Ltd, so I do hope you add that into the credits. Chaos World is quite a good NES game so you should try it sometime. I was just somewhat concerned that you didn't attribute it to the proper people and it wasn't on that credits list you had.

Thanks for addressing my concern smile.gif Keep up the good work!
