I never understood what Variables can do for me in RPG Maker. Especially in 2003. I know how to use Switches to make the game none linear. Can someone give me a few examples or give me a tutorial explaining Variables and what they do specifically in the game for me? Because I'd like to become more knowledgeable in RPG Maker so I can make more quality RPG's down the line.

I highly agree with reading up on the tutorial. Though you can't just cram knowledge straight from someone's brain. You need to trial and error the concept yourself. That's how you learn. From errors and finding ways to improve on a theory.

Once you get the hang of variables, you might come to love them as I do.

And, if you ever aspire to do a little programming on the side for Application Development, a basic understanding of variables is like the gateway drug** to greater things. biggrin.gif

I would define a variable as a "switch" with an infinite amount of options, Whereas a switch would only have two options, OFF or ON.

Thanks for the tutorial though. I will read through it and gain an understanding of it. I'll tell you what I've gotten from it before I actually try and use variables. tongue.gif

You can do alot with variables. Time/Weather systems pretty much rely on them, as do location events (you can do spell targetting for instance). And then there's all the stat variables.
