As you may have guessed, Illuminated Badassery 2: To Hell And Back is the sequel to the original Illuminated Badassery, which few seemed to have commented on but have liked. The sequel takes all of the concepts and challenges introduced in the original and either completely replaces them or tweaks them to near-perfection. Many new features are introduced in this game as well, and hopefully it helps the game to be a vast improvement on the admittingly mediocre original.

Genre: Comedy

Gameplay time: 5-6 hours for normal playthroughs; upwards of 10-15+ for those looking to do everything

Bugs you might want to know about:

.the game might crash if a certain actor reaches his maximum level and attempts to go over it
.some equipment might bug out during the beginning of New Game + if you improperly equip them
.possibly some minor map tile/event glitches here and there that I'll fix if pointed out
.some occasional bitmap issues with menus

etc.

Strategy Guide: The little text guide I cooked up for the original was really rather limited and barebones, now that I think about it. Due to the face-lift and general introduction of much more new content and concepts, the new guide is presented in Microsoft Word and has more detailed strategies for bosses, sidequests, puzzles and such, along with pictures to better get my tips across. It's 220+ pages, but I optimized it and whatnot so it's only around 60+ MB.

Progress/Download: The full game is completed! It's packed with a guide as well, but be warned; due to the large amount of content, the game's pretty big; it'll take a bit to download.

It's been several months since Joe last defeated his archenemy, the dreaded Hairy, the beetle alien. Many are wondering what the bug-eyed (no pun intended) asshole has prepared for his next strike. As time comes and goes, the world and Futoria go about their business in peace... until Hairy publicly displays his newest diabolical plan of destruction.

This time? He wants to destroy the universe.

You read it right; your contact lenses aren't cracked. Your glasses are perfectly aligned. He wants to effectively destroy existence due to his colossal hate of... well, everything. Mankind isn't the only victim now; creation is on the line! As Joe, who formerly was in on the whole 'hero' thing just so he could make a few million dollars and get some cheap pussy, finds out about this new catastrophe, he becomes genuinely disgusted at the evil extraterrestrial menace. He travels all the way back to the Portal after a night at the Olive Garden to find out this info via a deeply concerned Jawger, and sets out to deal a major justice-laced can of snowman whoop-ass to the vile villain. Will our now legitimate hero and his friends rise to the challenge and kill this fucker for good?

The main cast (Joe, Broski, Jabron, Enurji and Jawger) has been almost completely retained from the last adventure. However, many new evils have come to kill... and not much else. In any case, here are the newest heroes and threats to look out for in Illuminated Badassery 2, along with some old faces:

Joseph Carter Mard
Age: 20

The main hero of the game. Despite acting obnoxious much of the time, he deep down has a heart of gold and is perfectly willing to commit acts of heroism for the sake of humanity.

Broski Broham Broster
Age: 20

The best friend of Joe. An outright redneck, he frequently talks like one and has a tendency to commit completely surreal actions and talk about weird things. However, when the chips are really down, he's probably the most heroic of the four boys.

Jabron Mohammed Elf
Age: 21

The other best friend of Joe. Is incredibly racist, obnoxious, prone to shouting the n-word, sex-obsessed, violent, and all-around near mentally ill... but is the best pal a guy could have. That also says alot about Jennifer Lopez.

Enurji Model 4200
Age: ???

A former (reluctant) henchman of Hairy who joined Joe, Broski and Jabron and became the brains and common sense of the group. Has a mysterious past and is quite good with chicks.

Jawger Fishington
Age: ???

The fish that manages the Portal and is arguably the most intelligent being in the entire universe. He is an amazingly powerful person in battle and is a very competent friend and ally of the group, even more-so than Enurji.

Save Log

A series of logs that grant the ability to save, and is always accompanied by the Item/Skill/Action Log. Is just as snarky as the Save-O-Tron.

Hairy

The main antagonist of the game, and the archenemy of Joe. Is a diabolical alien/beetle menace who rules Lavata with an iron fist. He seeks to end all existence and go to Taco Bell afterwards.

Doom and Sorrow

Hairy's most dangerous henchmen, who are reluctant to seeing everything destroyed, but are tuning in regardless because the concept sounds cool. Doom is utterly loyal to Hairy, while Sorrow will do anything to accomplish his goals no matter what.

Apoc-Man

Hairy's secret weapon, who was introduced in the last adventure. Has the ability to turn into any kind of monster he wants, but his default form is a balloon to obfuscate his threat level to his foes.

Hood

A strange hooded man with incredible power and seems to act as a rival of sorts to Joe, though Joe himself dismisses him as a mere nuisance. Who is this strange man?

Eustace Theodore Jackson Powell III/Carl

A corrupt business official who manages the Mek Industries building. However, he appears to be hiding many things...

And more...

The game takes place almost solely in the Portal, although you start out at Futoria. The game's world has been expanded to 14+ areas instead of 8+ to allow for more exploration. Every area in the Portal is something new, with varying length to keep the players on their toes.

Notably, however, during the second half of the game, the typical IB formula (complete an area, do some small tasks then go to the next) is shaken up to keep things fresh; you'll see what I mean later on!

Illuminated Badassery 2, being cast as a majorly improved sequel and all, has many, many features in store for players:

.everyone is able to go up to level 199, have 200,000 max HP, have 999999999 max cash, and 9999 max ATK/DEF/Spirit/Agility, allowing for a juggernaut party if the player spends time killing enemies and completing sidequests
.8-direction movement makes a triumphant return; you'll need it for a few bosses in particular
.the Stamina System present in the original game has been completely scrapped, and now you may run absolutely whenever you want without being interrupted. This allows for easier speed-runs
.the most major change is the battle system! The Vampyr SBABS in the original has been replaced with the Yggdrasil ABS, allowing for tons of new features without any considerable glitches, such as equipment that attracts drops and gold, legitimate guns with legitimate fire rate (so you won't have to button mash to use the machine gun like in the original), generator battles, special skills called actions that allow you to perform ridiculously cool stunts, and a TON of normal skills and items. The partner system has been replaced with Party Shift, allowing you to shift to whatever party member you want to without having to manage the god awful AI in the original. You can now simply walk up to drops to get them, and now items/skills/actions are managed via a separate log to ensure more organized layouts
.a cooler save screen/menu, if that's your thing; there's even up to 3 different save points!
.everyone's classes can now be changed as long as they're given permission slips to all four classes in the game. Classes can even be COMBINED for complex names and truly wacked out stat changes to make your party member the absolute best he can be!
.more realistic particle/light/weather effects, allowing for better looking scenery
.several optimization/lag scripts are implemented to allow for a smoother-running game, though due to the insane amount of data and whatnot, older (and some newer) computers might still have trouble running certain portions of the game. Otherwise, enjoy a constant 60 fps
.maps are now more detailed and less confusing to trek; that was a major problem with the first game. I've made a conscience effort to make most maps both detailed and easy to navigate, though some might still seem a bit simplistic
.you can change the resolution to whatever one you want via maximizing the game window or stretching it to your preferred height/width
.you can change your menu theme to whatever you want as you progress through the game
.you can strafe with the 'Alt' key, which allows for better skill/gun aiming
.the game over map has been replaced with 17 different Game Over screens that appear randomly every time you die, so masochists who fuck around can look at a new funny picture each time they lose their last couple of HP!
.shops have been made MUCH, MUCH simpler overall, with a nice, simple looking interface that should be easy to understand. You can now also buy any items you sell to any shop back, ala Borderlands/FF7! Stock tends to run out, though, so you'll have to wait a while in some cases
.a Barter Shop system has been added. Barter Fishes all over the world will appear and try to bargain with you. Have any items you don't want anymore? Offer them to the Barter Fishes based on their value, and get even better ones in return if they're valuable enough!
.a bestiary has been added, so players can check out info on the monsters they've killed. However, a chance to unlock monster data is only available everytime you complete an area in the Portal
.to add some spunk to the drab inventory in the original, items and equipment are managed in four separate inventories that encompass the party! There's also a loot section, incase you change your mind about throwing items away at the last second. All items have a limited capacity and take up space in the separate inventories, so you're constantly selling, moving and buying shit in order to keep your party's supplies up to date for all the situations you get yourself into (note that the equip system from the original remains present here so you won't have to take forever equipping things)
.even more sidequests and optional bosses are in this sequel than in the original, allowing for tons of replay value; there's almost 20 this time around, and each have a purpose in the long run (you'll get mission slips for each consecutive completed mission and eventually have a chance to spar with the game's ultimate boss)
.New Game +! I've done several script edits to MysteryMan23's NG+ script to allow for NG+in' with the new save screen. Each NG+ is also started with a 'Badass Mode', which changes the game significantly in difficulty
.many new minigames and wacky events are present to break up the monotony of the combat system, so you're not just killing monsters left and right all the time
.you can take screenshots with F5 incase you want to report bugs or brag about minigame scores you got, just like in the original
.a much deeper story than the original; still nothing FF-tier, but it's more than an excuse plot, that's for sure. There's even alot of emotional moments to balance out the rapid-fire comedy

The reason you're probably looking at this post in the first place. Luckily, I've got plenty eye candy to offer for you Curious Georges:

Currently 25 screenshots atm, guaranteed to go up in size as I work

This will take a while. *ahem*

    KGC/Touch fuzzy (Limit Break script)
    Rafidelis (Title/Logo script)
    Yanfly (Fixes script, Classes script)
    Woratana (Neo Message System)
IceDragon (For the whole damn Yggdrasil system. You rock, man)
Jet10985 (MANY scripts; 8-dir, Cache Optimization, Menu BGM, Miscellaneous Options, Strafe, Success Bar Snippet, Timed Choices, Break/Immortal States Snippet, Level Up Items, and Screenshot Taker. You've damn talented, Jet)
    BigEd (some FF IX menus)
modern algebra (again, many scripts; Bitmap Addons, Paragraph Formatter, Catalogue Base, Monster Catalogue, Max HP/MP Equipment, Disable Dash States, Cursed Equipment, Grid Inventory System. You're also really talented, MA)
Cozziekun (Status Screen, Critical Bonus State)
    arevulopapo (Particle Engine)
    Kylock (Light Effects script)
    MysteryMan23 (New Game + script)
    Omegas7 (Barter Shop script)
    Logan Forrests (Shop system overhaul)
OriginalWij (Chest Pop-Up and Timer scripts)
Mr G W (Magical Weapons script)
    ccoa (weather script)
    Shanghai (Button Mash minigame)

    etc.

Any and all the sprites/music/etc used in this game are the respective properties of their creators, and I have no affiliation with their creations. If anyone would like credit for their sprites, please let me know

I'm pretty close to being done with the 4th area of my game, so I'm putting a poll up for those who want a demo by this Sunday (tomorrow, obviously!) or sometime through this week up until Friday.

Demo 1 is uploaded! Enjoy!

IMPORTANT NOTE: I'm currently doing a small update to the demo. If anyone downloaded it last night, download this version after I announce the update.

Update has been completed.

I am planning on hosting an IB site soon to host the Illuminated Badassery games, including this one. It should be done by today and I'll do my best to update whenever something major has been done.

As for game progress, I am almost halfway done. I will upload more screenshots soon. A second official demo (and the fourth overall) containing the first two completed halves of IB2 will be released in the coming months. Keep on the lookout, fellow badasses.

EDIT: Yeah, scratch the part about the website... I think it's kinda unnecessary now.

This game is just plain priceless. smile.gif

Reminds of that one author in Newgrounds site who did some weird chaotically random videos which was not bound by logic.

Thanks!

And yeah, although the game's more serious this time around tone-wise, there's still a very healthy amount of goofiness and whatnot.

I decided that I'm just going to wait until I release the final version of Illuminated Badassery 2, because:

-another demo would feel kinda odd, since the first I think represents a good portion of what I'm going to do for the final product

-I'm planning on adding ALOT of stuff this time around, and if I release a second demo, I don't want to make it a 'people want more' kind of thing

I'll still try to keep everyone updated to some extent, even if it's very small, but I'm very, very hard at work right now and I genuinely want to blow the original out of the water, so yeah.

The game is now available for download!

It's 620 MB, so it might take a while for those with slow internet connections, but it's on dropbox so it's still on a reliable server. It comes packed with a full guide (pics and everything) for those curious.
