I know uou probably can't get a free one, but all the points in this are 100% valid. I'm beginning to think that the PS4 IS coming in 2012. I guess we'll find out at the next E3, which isn't too far away!

I always wait a bit of time before I buy consoles, give them some time to work out the kinks when delivered into the public's hands. Looks interesting, but seems to be driving against competition more than having fun releasing a new console. In other words, a new release this soon by Sony, is strictly business and nothing more.
Which is why Nintendo is more of my preference for gaming, it's more about the culture than business. That's a little off-topic though, so ignore that. XD
Anyway, it is cool to see new consoles being made, and hopefully this one will be under 500 USD. XD
Playstation came out in 1994 PS2 in 2000 PS3 in 2006
The quote "this is a platform business, so for the future platform - when we'll be introducing that product, I cannot discuss that - but our development work is already underway." is on multiple other websites.
The fun facts about the systems are all true. The PS3 was also the first to use motion controls in just controllers, unlike the Wii that uses a controller AND a motion sensing bar.
Among other things. Sure, it didn't cite anything, but if you really wanted to find out if it were true you could find out easily.

Exactly They release consoles when they want a new one, not when they NEED to. It's not like Nintendo is going to go bankrupt any time soon. But Sony is just kind of good for innovating things, and they WILL start losing money if new, better, cheaper stuff comes out.
And the release of a new product (because a console is ultimately just a product) will always be a purely business-motivated decision, whether it's from Sony, Nintendo, or Microsoft. Nintendo isn't doing you a favor by putting out a new console - they just want your money.

That's a cynical way to look at it, and is true to a degree, but the difference is how they go about doing it. Of course they want your money, but there is a difference between one who wants your money, and one who enjoys their job and wants your money to help them continue to enjoy their job. Nintendo comes across as having that mentality, whereas I don't see Sony in that same light. One company started out in the business of pleasure/entertainment (Nintendo) the other, not so much.
That's just brand loyalty and good PR. If Nintendo were put into a position where they had to choose between benefiting their customers and profiting from them, they would go with the latter every time. Unfortunately, being nice isn't profitable, and without profit, a business can't continue to exist.
I agree but I know I didn't pay 1000 bucks ever for a ps3 like a few people I know did back when they came out. but for whomever was bashing Nintendo. If Nintendo went back and remade every nes and snes game they made (yes even the worse ones) Nintendo would rule the world! back to Sony though. Do you think they are just making the PS4 to beat out Microsoft before they release the Xbox720?

I would definitely agree with you about that.
Also, I think that if Sony and Microsoft would create versions of their hardware that were less expensive (even at a slight sacrifice in graphics capabilities) they'd make more money. If everyone can afford one, they'd sell a great deal more. Besides, hardware is becoming cheaper due to technology becoming better, so they can afford to make systems of pretty decent quality whilst selling them for much cheaper than the 300 USD amount. But that's mostly conjecture, and I'll get back to working on my stuffs now.
2014 is a more realistic release date, and I'd also wager that we'll see a new xbox b4 a new playstation.

Contrary to what everyone else believes, I think that it will come in 1st or 2nd quarter of 2013. 2012, though, sounds like a good time for an announcement regarding it, but 2013 for the public release. Consider that the PSV SDK was already released to developers as of last year, and it's finally releasing this year.
Sony will need to sell off some SDKs and have some games ready, or nearly ready for demonstration and/or sale by the time the console releases.

The PS3 has only started being profitable for Sony very recently, and the PSN debacle of the past months has made things rockier on that front than they could have anticipated. I don't imagine they'd be putting their resources toward development of a new console with such vigour that a new one could be out on the market by 2012, especially since the PS3 itself is still very much on the bleeding edge of hardware capabilities for the time being.
While they have followed a six-year trend in the past, it's worth noting that the PSX and PS2 were not made of such advanced components that they had to be designed, manufactured, and sold at a financial loss. The PS3 is still a powerhouse, by and large, and without pressure from Nintendo and Microsoft I doubt they'd start pushing for a faster release of their own Next Big Thing. Particularly since it'd mean spending another couple of years actively losing money.
