As people have previously stated, the $175 more than likely will be a lot less when it's finally released for America (assuming that it will be). If I'm not mistaken, Japan gets their RM's via hardcopies, whereas we get ours through dl, so that alone should shave off some money.
However, based on the cost of the previous makers, once they reached our shores, I'm willing to bet it will be somewhere between $70 to $90, which is still pretty high considering what we are already paying for VX, but may be worth it for the few extra features they are offering (RGSS3, char/face generator, overkill option, some added skill features), but what people really want is a fix to the mapping system. If they don't fix that, it probably won't matter a whole lot what other features the ACE has, because a lot of people will probably skip over it.
On the plus side, just a little over a month to go. I'm sure somebody will get hold of the Japan copy and let us know if it's worth the hype.

UPDATE!
^ RMXP Mapping is back.
Other specified features: Battle backs
original
戦闘背景が設定できるようになりました。この戦闘背景も ふたつのパーツの組み合わせで作成できます。 You can now set the Battle background. The battleback can be created by a combination of two parts. (2 layers for bbg)
Built-in Caterpillar mode (more party members! read spoiler!)
original
隊列歩行表示ができるようになりました。また、5人以上 パーティーが組めるようになりました。※ただし、先頭4 以外は控えメンバーとなり、マップ上での隊列や戦闘には 加しません。 You can now view the party walking. Also, now more than five [parties] (couldn't translate this, easily; most likely 5 player characters, not 5 parties of 4) . Only the first four will be displayed on the map and participate in battles.
イベントで動画(Ogg Theora形式)を再生できるようになりました。 ^ Basically, you can play Ogg videos from events.
アナタの自信作をシェアウェアとして販売することも、も ろん自由にできます。 I think this roughly means you can sell your projects (correct me if I'm wrong)

The mapping (IE: Drawing the map on the editor) stil like VX. The only difference is the tileset selection for each map. But don't expect 3 layers and such. The maping still divided by Tile A1~A5 for floors and walls, and B ~E for objects. like on VX

Only if you want to spend a few hundred dollars on an updated and improved RMVX when and if you have the original. For me, I'll just try to mooch off my friends when they get it.

Where do yo get "a few hundred dollars" from? At most, it would be around $175, but considering that it will probably be download for people outside of Japan, and considering how much previous makers cost once it reached our shores, it's more likely to be less than one hundred dollars.

I suppose she was talking about the japanese version, since there's no US version annouced yet.
Holy shit! That means they want to still improve VX! (I'd be trolling if I was a die hard XP mapper)
Dont be fooled by this "improving VX". VXa is a new maker with a lot of similarities with VX, but still a new maker.
It's just a marketing tactic. At same time they will convince VX users to go to the "upgraded" version. It will convice people that stickied with XP due to VX limitations to move on VXa. An very good tactic, since it allows people to use the resources from the maker VX, wich was one of the biggest hindrances on the VX start (the lack of resoruces, and the incompatibility with XP resources, requiring massive edits). That way there will be no need for new conversions or people to get used to new graphics styles or patterns.
By the way importing VX data files to VXa isn't possible, like it was in 2000 > 2003. Only the graphics and audio can be imported.

Hm, VXa seems interesting, I used VX but I couldn't really get into it, but looking at this, it brings back some of the old features from RM2003. (As to why I still use that today.) But I will certianlly try this out. As for $175 USD. As stated earlier, by the time It reaches Europe / American borders it will be reduced in price.
Because I live in England, in which we use GBP, this would be cheapened even futher. But I do like the assets of VXa. I just hope they don't hide about any missing features which set me off VX and XP originally in the first place.
This looks promising, and I like the fact that they have a built in caterpillar system. But I do hope it is something we can toggle on and off.
What I have mixed opinions within, is the RGSS3 prespective. They should instead support all three RGSS's or atleast intertwine them. But oh well, RPG Maker is a major learning curve anyhow, not to mention it is an oppertunity to break the borders of scripting even moreso than RGGS I and II.

RGSS3 will give more freedom then the previous ones. Besides converting it shouldn't be a problem right?
