Hello, its been years since I've been into any RPG Makers. I was pretty active back with ezboards were relevant and that russian dude Don, I think, was the RPG Maker king. I never made any full games because I wasn't that motivated. But now that I'm 23 and have what I think are better ideas for games, I'm slowly getting back into that "i really need to create stuff to feel complete" phase.

I mainly to ask/talk about possible "systems" or gameplay concepts if you will that are possible with RPG Maker VX (or even XP). The Scripting things is very new to me and very frightening as I have never been able to do the simplest of coding. But Seeing all those examples helps.

Anways, The first concept I'm sure is possible is a Random Quest/Mission type of system.
Like, lets say I have a game called Assassin Dude, and the point of the game is get 5 random missions from one person to kill one random person or persons. And after doing the 5 missions to move on to the next town or whatever.

Could this be done with events, or is scripting/coding or whatever needed. I imagine there'd just be like premade mobs. Then you'd get a radom quest of kill 5 of these, then another random quest would be find such and such item, of recuse this NPC from this other NPC/mob.
The idea is that the player can play multiple times and almost never have the exact same mission twice. Or at least have it where two people's experience of the game isnt quite the same.

The next concept, I'm pretty sure requires some coding/scripting, is building/destruction. Although, the more I think about it, it could prolly be done with built in engine tools, but its bee a while. The concept is basically giving the player a large world/map of empty land full of trees, mining spots, animals and stuff where they can gather material (thats easy enough with in game tools). But the thing that I'm worried about is having characters be able to take materials and build things anywhere in the map. For example, you chop down a tree and get 5 woods, craft the 5 woods into planks, then place down a plank on the map to creat one wooden block. Then the player could place down many blocks to build a house and decorate it with crafted furniture. The concept is pretty much from MineCraft (you can try it out free at minecraft.net sorry if linking is not allowed). I don't plan on making a minecraft clone, but I'm interested in the concept of having a game where the player is placed in a world and has o survive (build shelter, gather food and materials, fight monsters, etc) and maybe throw in some goals and stuff.

So I guess basically what this thread is for is asking if these things are doable. Especially the second one, because I suppose I could live without random quests.

Thanks for not flamming me.

Yes that is possible.

martyjr2008, saying "Yes it is possible" doesn't contribute much to the discussion. Care to elaborate?

Said like that, it's rather vague, but I think you don't need to script for that. Pure random target is not really doable, so you'd need to prepare a lot of them and randomly choose one.
Then again, it's pretty vague as is.

Your other concept doesn't forcibly need scripting either. Somebody made a game like this, Kingdom Maker. It's not a fantastic game, but it could have been with a little more sophistication. Even without script, you'll need deep knowledge of eventing to accomplish this.

My advice would be to drop by the Event Emporium and study how the event systems are made.

@Kread-EX
Thanks. thats good to know, back in the day I was able to do some decent stuff with events. Its good to know I can do some of these things with out scripts. I'll check out those links you gave me. I figured I could just have a bunch of static quests but then let the player choose which ones they want to do. Thanks again
