Rubi

Platform- RPG Maker 2003

Your name is Rubi. You are a child, in the family of the Mountain Shrine. Here, they honor the spirits. You are part Spirit, having the power of fire and the power to see the spirits roaming around the world as well.

You get a message from a fellow spirit that they need your help, so you go see what could be the problem...

This is a small 3 day contest game for the RMN Weekend Gamemaking Binge event! This is a simple Action RPG.

Approved because most of the requirements are hit -you still need a features list though.

There, feature list has been added! This is a pretty short game (about half an hour maybe) so there really isn't too much I can put under the features.

Sure, lemme know what you think of it! I do intend to expand this out and work on it on perhaps another system in the future.

For a short, I liked it a lot.
It's well made and the battle system is simply awesome.

Do you mind if I do some minor fixes to battle animations and system graphics, and possibly a re-release for it?

Glad you liked it!

Hmm, sorry but I am going to be working on the re-release myself! I was waiting for the event contest to finish before I started on my new plans. But yes, this is going to go somewhere, I'm not just shelving it!

It won that event contest by the way biggrin.gif

I played a little bit of this (probably about a week ago?) and for a short three day game -- you did a great job! One of the main reasons why this game caught my eye was because I have a friend at work named 'Roopi,' so I thought about her when I downloaded your game. I really don't have any major complaints, seeing how much time you had, but I really enjoyed this game, Ocean. biggrin.gif I hope you polish it up a little bit more and give it a better release! This isn't too shabby! Although, I do like 'Paradise Blue' a lot better. ^^

Yeah, I want to. If anything to get rid of the bugs and do custom graphics for the rest. Still unsure if there will be an iphone version in the future. I'd like that but I'd have to see if it's possible first. I haven't had time yet though, working on a contest game. Now I half wish I took Ranmasters proposal!

While I enjoy a lot of your releases, I also feel that some of your games are a bit of hit and miss for me. For example Island Sky and Adalyn did not quite appeal to me, but Paradie Blue did.

And now, I am happy to say, so did Rubi. This game was excellent, in spite of being so short. The details in the game were very good, direct and to the point, and the combat system was fairly balanced.

Sometimes it felt that the hit collison between battler and enemy was a bit off, but this was a minor annoyance. Overall, there really wasn't much for me to complain about aside from it being so short. I don't mean short in that this particular adventure should have been dragged out, but short in that this game including the lead up to the main bad guy sort of felt like a prologue to something greater.

And I got to thinking, if you are ever looking for ideas, one thought is to have one person for each element. Rubi is fire, the boy Chrys is ice, so maybe there is one for earth and wind as well. We don't really know much about Rubi, and lot of who she is remains unanswered, so maybe in the greater scheme of things her goal is to find all of these other elemental characters and maybe use that somehow against some other greater force.

Just some thoughts anyhow. Great job though!

Any particular issues with Adalyn? I don't think anyone responded in the topic so I don't know what other issues were raised (I know of some, like lag issues and rushed story). Well you can let me know, unless it's just a general "Setting/Characters are not for me!" type of deal, then that's fine!

But yeah, I'm glad that this one is liked. I still have a desire to remake it. I do have some plans for it, involving Rubi's aiding the spirits and all, but I'd like it to be more focused around the spirit world itself, and not collecting elemental kids to save teh world. I'm not making Captain Planet: The action RPG. I wrote down in my notepad what sort of areas she'd visit. It's up to finding time to remake it after working on Adalyn and Azulea.

No issues with Adalyn, it was just harder than I had expected, which is funny since once upon a time that was the only style of game I played, way back on the NES. I guess I've grown soft with traditional RPG games. It was a decent story and fun, but it was too fast for me to appreciate.

But who knows, if I were to replay it I might enjoy it now.

This game had the right amount of action where I'm concerned, and each area had an increased amount of difficulty. One problem with action games is trying to keep up with them all on a keyboard whereas game controls work better. So while this required a bit of keyboard use versus the traditional RM games, it was easy to understand and use without being completely overwhelmed.
