Ok to get what I mean you should have played some kind of RTS modern game like C&C3 Kane's Wrath. Basically I'd like to play an explosion animation and have that animation have a distortion blur that takes place like most of the explosions in Kane's Wrath. This may not even be possible but it'd provide some cool animation features if it could be done.

Anyways, if anyone has any thoughts on this or wants to attempt this please comment. This should be for VX.

You could possibly fiddle with :
Rei Explosion Blur Effect
That will give you the blur explosions XD
You could probably edit it and change things around a bit.
Hope that helps?

The script is really good, but for some odd reason, if pasted in the script editor it could present errors which aren't errors sad.gif
Translation: there are some lines "cut" in two parts and you could have to "reconnect" them.
Maybe this is only a problem in the RMXP editor, but that script you find can be adapted to work even on RMXP or RMVXACE, so...

Hm... yeah I saw that script but it blurs the whole screen. I'd like it just to blur around the pixils of the animation. Thinking about it it can't be impossible.

I don't know about a script that would do that, but you can do that using animation effects to improve upon the existing animation and adding in the blur effects, or creating your own animation.

Maybe there's a way out...
I could try adapting Rei's script, but I don't know when and if it will be finished and working.
I'll give it a try tomorrow.

@Jens
Alright, if you can give it a shot then I'd appreciate it.

@Shadowval
Ok, how exactly would you do this? See I've got an action Battle System and one of the skills has a pulse effect that pushes characters away from the caster. I'd like a cool distortion blur that pulses out of the caster when that spell is cast. If this works I'll probably use it for other effects too.

Well it would require quite a bit of artistic talent, I'd think. But with animations you can have blur like effects that distort the part of the screen they hit. The problem I would see, is since they are based on battle animations, getting to be the right size might be a problem. You'd have to make the animation using photoshop or SAI to get the right amount of visibility and still have a distortion. I know it is possible, I just don't know if I have the talent to show you XD

Well I have Photoshop but I don't know how to distort the map (blur it slightly) with an animation. You have normal, add, and subtract blending options in RMVX. Maybe I'm missing something.

Do as the Shadowslenderval said, take the long way.
You can just export the animation you wanted to blur, and then edit it using PhotoShop which is easy. And just save, rename, then import it to your game. Use that animation file and make a new animation scene. It wasn't really that time consuming though if you're used to it. I myself have about 200 animation in just one game lol. ^^

Well I guess I don't get how it will blur. I can easily make new animations (or duplicate an existing one) but I'm at a loss of how to blur the map with the animation. The Add blending method doesn't blur and neither does subtract.

OOOOK, I gotcha now (blonde moment LOL)! That isn't quite what I want. I want to blur the MAP under the animation. So searching through scripts this afternoon I came up with the ability to blur a sprite using: wave_amp, wave_length, and wave_speed. This works well except that I'd actually like to blur only part of the sprite at a time. I'm using a parallax mapping script and the ground layer (or in this case grass) is a sprite using a png image. That image is easily blurred using the above methods the only trick now is only blurring a certain area of that sprite (particularly where the animation is playing).

Is it even possible? I've looked all over Sprite and can't find anything about blurring certain pixels.
