I'm a student studying game art, in my second and final year. At this point I'm basically just working on portfolio pieces. Most of the stuff in this thread will be 3D art, but I also do occasional 2D concept art etc. I'm well versed in 3D modelling, sculpting and texturing. I'm interested in and learning about technical stuff such as material networks in UDK. I know some basic rigging, but I dislike it and animation.

If you're new to this thread then you can click the links below to go straight to the art posts, ignoring everything else.

Assassin Portrait Guy Thing, Sky Dragon Thing Sketch

It actually looks nicely done. Coloring's good and your lineart is really smooth.

This is really cool, man. The only thing is that with the skin and body so textured and detailed, the inside of the mouth stands out because it's pretty much just one solid block of color. I know it's heavily shadowed and everything, but it still might look better with some definition.

Wow, its so awesome! Great work, Ember.

I actually see different shades of black/brown inside the mouth, but maybe that's just me...anyway, this is really good! Your lineart is really smooth, like Hirei said. That was actually the first thing I noticed lol

*thumbs up*

I'm with Trickster on this one, I never knew you could do such awesome work biggrin.gif
Seriously, that thing is beautiful. It's like the bonus art you get at the end of some games, and people get paid money to do that... a lot of money.

I sketched a basic outline then went over it with a thicker brush, then coloured and textured it. It was all done in photoshop with a wacom intuos 4 tablet.

I just drew this, it was for my class. I don't like the lines because they aren't smooth like the worm's are (but that was the idea of the assignment).
Still, he looks pretty badass.

Thanks for your nice comments guys <3

Oh also I have done this very basic sketch of what I want to do next. It's not quite finished yet but I'm uploading it for the hell of it.
I like him so far, and I haven't done a proper landscape yet. Hopefully it turns out okay.

Those are both really good.

The sword on the "badass" guy looks as if it is going into his back rather than being held by a sheath. Perhaps that's a perspective issue. Otherwise, it does look "badass". Great job. =D

I know you've said you haven't yet done a proper landscape, but from what I can tell...that sketch has a very good one in-the-works. The spine area of the monster sketch is really quite amazing and well done. The only issue I can see with the monster, is that the head looks a bit too blunt - but that may be your intent, so take that as you like. =]

All-in-all, you've done a marvellous job and are a fantastic artist! Keep up the great work! =D

Okay I've painted some of the colour into this. I've finished the sky, I'm happy with the clouds. I think it's at the point where I am happy with the grass too, but I'm not sure if I'm doing it the right way. Or if there is a right way. So keep in mind this is my first time painting like this, and I'm pretty new to painting in general.

So, if anyone knows much about painting grass or cliffs, tips would be good. Because I've just been looking at other arts to try and work out how they do it.

Your grass looks pretty good so far, but I would definitely place some shrubs or something in there too. It just seems a little bland in those areas. As for cliffs, the first step would be to establish what your cliff is. Is it a cliff of rock, or dirt? With that, it should be easy to go from there.

I decided both. Sort of. Then I painted a bit and decided the brown didn't go with it so well, so I changed it to grey. It hasn't really become easier xD
Still don't particularly know what I'm doing.

The clouds and sky are pretty darn good. The grass is some of the best I have seen.

The cliffs need more depth and shading to make them stand out - they would not be flat but have craggy rocks and jutting out areas.

Is this on a tablet or hand painted?

When I took that screenshot I actually hadn't put any detail in the cliffs at all, they're just flat colour waiting to be filled in. Same goes for most of the grass.
It's done with a tablet.

I could see with the grass that only part was done! The piece that you have completed looks very good , no suggestions for tips at all.

I asked if you were using a tablet because so do I, and you asked for advice. You are doing this the same way as I do then Ariiel gave me some advice on my latest piece that helped- so I wanted to share that with you. ( in my Art thread at the bottom btw- ) . to do with the magic wand.

Your work is really good Ember!
