General idea:
I want to create an event where a little boy asks you to catch the squirrels he lost, there are 10 of them in total.
I created a false item named "Squirrel" and found how to make it so the little boy can count them so you don't end the quest with only 1 Squirrel instead of 10.

Now my current problem is; How to make it so Squirrels are not caught 100% of the time? I'd like something like 55% catch rate.

Thanks! smile.gif

You can do this with variables and conditional branches. Basically what you want to do is create a variable (call it something like squirrel chance) and have it set as random 0-2, basically this splits it into a 33% chance to catch, I'll explain more next.

Next you will create a conditional branch, have it check the variable you created and check it to be set to 0, if it is 0 then you receive the squirrel item, if it is not, you receive nothing. It is rather simple.

I wish I could provide you some screen shot examples, but I do not actually have XP anymore, if this wasn't a good enough explanation, let us know and I'll give a deeper example.

Okay, I did that, at first the game was freezing when I was accepting the event but then changed a switch for a variable and it doesn't freeze anymore (the switch was a dead end now). But my problem now is I can't catch the squirrels lol. I can run into them press on enter as much as I want I can't pick them up. I probably need to set an event for this as well but wouldn't making them "Action button" or even "Player touch" pickable though immobilized?

EDIT: Tried them both, the squirrels still move but I can't pick them still and I don't get the items... >.<

Hrm basically you should set it up to react either as player touch or action button, either should work, within the vent itself you should set up the variable to do the randomize that I showed you, and then the conditional branch. This should work flawlessly, what you may do is also put a switch on after the conditional branch to get ride of the squirrel. Just a self switch A should work.

I can do it with a fight method but I can't figure how to do that one out. What you say is clear but somehow when I apply it nothing happens, I didn't set the squirrel to disappear yet but I've set a second event page with a second squirrel... I'll do some tests to see if it just skips to the second squirrel for whatever reason. I'll put a dog instead so I'll see what happens then I'll go to bed for tonight, maybe sleeping will help me do somethiing better tomorrow lol.

I had troubles to simply catch the Squirrels, I ended giving them a value for the NPC to be able to count them since the "check inventory for this item" only counts one Item. It could have worked if I made him check 10times I guess but if the item didn't disappear only one would have still worked. They are 100% catch rate but that's not really important, at least it works.

Also made a cutscene in which I get knocked out and I wake up in someone's house, the flash screen didn't last long enough for my taste so I added a black screen. smile.gif After bugging at the black screen I switched 2 codes then I was finally waking up in their house... Not big pregress but still some progress.

Since I'm here I'll ask another question if you don't mind... is there a section where I can post my progress like this? Possibly even the Demo section but without a Demo until I consider it's ready? And if I post once per day (Something like 20-24hours between posts) would it be considered spam if no one else posted? If yes then maybe posting only once per 2 days?

EDIT: Back on my computer now, looks like the Showcase section could do but it still would be too soon to provide Screenshots... but that would still work? :x

Well we have a small thread located in the Gameplay forums for you to post WIP games that don't quite hit the criterea for the Submission. So what I'd suggest you do. Is to post it in the Project Hype and Advertisment thread which is pinned in the Design Critique forums. You can create an entire post in here without screenshots if you so wish. And people can come a view it. When it comes to a time when you feel your thread will follow the rules you either Report your posts or PM one of the mods of the Gameplay Section and we'll move it over for you.
