With the latest version of VLC they obviously took out there codecs and now your dvds or blu-rays will not play, if you're using linux this was fixed in a matter of a day or 2 because VLC is open source but it's not vlc, it's not gnome player, and it's not windows media player. It's the codecs, more and more OS's just aren't shipping them even distros like ubuntu or linux mint, arch and gentoo generally have this working when booting into your working environment as it's already installed with the base.

I know this is the post PC era and why do you still play DVDs, but what about that DVD collection oh.. you spent 6-8 grand on? (take the dragon boxes for example they were retailing for $1,200 a pop and there were 5 of them.. expensive!)

However unlike linux I have not seen a windows solution on fixing the codec problem, if you're using windows and found a solution post it, same for OS X.

But for linux head over here.

(I lost interest in compiling from source, it's all about speed and I have a lot of ram and bandwidth to burn).

Now that I got VLC 2.0.5 running and playing both blu-ray and dvd the rendering is a lot better than previous versions but.. for some odd reason just not as good as the ps3/xbox 360 or your blu-ray/dvd player. There's still milisecond lag.
