OK so i'm trying to get into spriting, or at least be a novice in it cause trying to find one is just not gonna happen , this is a sprite for my roman rpg game, he is a roman infantry soldier. He is a heavy edit of the default knight/solder from xp. I think he looks ok, passable for use in a game but then again I dont really know much about spriting so I thought i'd ask the ppl that do, so tell me what you guys think, tips and all feedback welcome.
I think you did a great job with the editing. I'm not sure what you could do with the helm if you wanted more of a Roman look to it. That would need somewhat tedious editing, but it still looks nice enough! What do you use to edit?

I use photoshop 7, I used to use gimp for edits but its acting weird now. The helmet is a bit tricky cause the romans used so many differnt kinds, then again this makes it easyer when i want to make the differnt class helms but still. Im gonna copy this one and add a plum on the helmet to make a general sprite. Thank you I think it looks good to, but I did spend ALOT of time on it, like 3 or 4 hours. But this gave me the perfect template for the rest of my roman solder sprites so my game is going smoothly.
Nice work with that Lato Glad to see others getting into spriting.
Firstly I'd recommend getting a toned down program to do spriting work, since Photoshop and Gimp can be a bit overpowering with all the options and features which aren't needed and use one with useful features. I use Graphics Gale because it's simple and has some very useful tools to help make spriting easier.
When I first opened that sprite I noticed that you've got some transparent parts which shouldn't be: Right leg first frame, helmet on the last row frames one and three. I think it would be useful to you if you copy and paste another frame in a new layer above the one you're working on, as I noticed the helmet gets brighter when the character is facing up, and to save trouble copy over the helmet onto the other four frames, since that wouldn't move or differ as the character walks.
Can't wait to see more

You lost me in that, so now I'm scared to sprite:(
Though I thank you, Holder. I can try and use Graphics Gale since I thought GIMP 2 might be too much for a sprite, myself.

Strange I didnt notice the transparent parts, but then again I was walking around in a black and white faded backgroud so ill riun him again, as for the helmet shinning i thought that was a cool effect and shows off the metal as he walks, kinda more realstic. Thanks for the feedback, think im gonna get into spriting more now that I can actually make a good one lol.

Yeah need to make the archer next, I think im just gonna thin out the helmet alot, still thinking about it, then I gotta start doing the barbarian sprites, which reminds me, get back to work on my battlers Nanashi!
Bump/Update Ok I tried to make this look clean when I updated this topic but when I went to put in my icons it saud the Admin wont allow links from photobucket sooooo I just had to add my new stuff to the first post, so yeah...
Ok I put these up YEARS ago but touched them up a but since then, there just a sample for now I can make them more gruesome. Anyways I think its weird we have all these horror games and mature games but all the dead bodys dont look dead, they all look like they are peacefully sleeping, so I showed a variety of injuries and missing body parts/blood so your games will look more real. What you guys think?
Ok this is my very first time messing with the cool RPG maker 2003 battlers, I took the samurai and really trimmed down the fancy helmet, made him into more of a basic soldier for the army. Of course hes not finished yet, if I make him a main hero ill add something but if its just a normal soldier I think this will be good.
Trimmed down the fancy helmet? You removed the horns and cut the back of the helmet...
For some reason you've actually saved it as .jpg also I'm not sure if it's just the fact that it's no long .png but the colour saturation is horridly low for 2k3.
On the status pose you've left a bulk of black when you've cut down the white section, try giving it more of a shade.

Thats the default my PS saves it on when I save a edit, they work great ingame, you think it reduces the color quality? I never noticed a difference. The helm was just to fancy for what I want, yeah my games all have fantasy to it, but big horns that are half the size of the helm itself is just a bit much and it was to back heavy, though ill have to double check this white section your talking about might have missed it.
And holder check your mail!! I pmed you.
Edit- yep I saw that extra black lol good eye I fixed it, just not posted it, im gonna post it when I do more to it.

Wow, you did that yourself? I love the outfit. Definitely a monk.
It looks great! Do you have plans to make other stances/forms?
Well its a heavy edit, I made him fit the time period and gave him the orthodox cross staff, so it actually looks alot like him the cool thing about 2003 is they have a built in transform option right in the monster battle setup so it might be cool to make other stances for him, like the snail in FF 6 lol. I probley will but right now im just getting the whole cast togather, right now I custom edited the whole cast battlers and sprites and testing out a few maps, the maps are so much harder to do in 2003 i think but ill get there.
