@Shadyone: Thank you. Yeah, I really like that song as well, it's nice to listen to. smile.gif

@mrhawi: Thanks a lot. I always appreciate your comments. I'm glad you liked Heedfully Treading the Uncleansed Ground, I'm thinking of changing it up slightly though since I can hear that it needs some slight improvement. And yes, Mystical Land of Magic is an older piece and is now a finalized version. I like the end results, so I'm leaving it as it is. happy.gif

Going to take a break in writing music for awhile since I'm getting a little upset at the fact that my DAW keeps freezing up on me and I'm losing all the material I've written for what was going to be a new song I would have loved to have posted here. No worries, it won't be a long break, only about a week, if that. smile.gif

I'm back and with another song I just finished! It's not the same composition that has been giving me constant problems, it's different, WAY different. The style this song offers is completely different than what I normally go for. Have a listen and let me know what you think. happy.gif

Apparation of Abysmal Lament

Sounds a bit distorted ohmy.gif. I liked the vst that you used, the lead sounds awesome. The distortion that I mentioned ends at 1:25, I guess that you did that on purpose. The theme gives me a feeling of evil, and I can put it on a scene or an event in the game that occurs something relevant on the story. I liked the tittle of the song =). Good job dude!, keep rockin' biggrin.gif

PS: Sorry about my bad english (I do not want to misunderstand me (: )

Thank you, mrhawi. happy.gif You're absolutely right, it does sound distorted, there weren't so many VSTs used in this song, just a lot of creepy effects, and I wanted it to sound this way because this composition is going directly in a scene in my game where my characters travel in a bleak, distorted, digital dimension-like future, or rather, the past...
I'm glad that you get the same feeling I get out of this song, I purposely meant it to turn out that way. smile.gif

Don't worry about your english, mrhawi, it's great, I can understand what you mean perfectly. happy.gif

Apparition of Abysmal Lament is fairly creepy, but attractively so.
I think that if you have this in the right setting (modern), you could even add some sound effects in there (like the ones that appear at around 1:30 that have an airy-glitch sound) like the sound of a television going on and off (you know that weird flashing sound they make when you don't have it on an existing channel).
I love the percussion that comes in and exits again, and then the ending is really cool because it sounds like the ending of a television series theme song (abrupt but obviously ending the song). ^^

Well named, by the way. =D

Hey X-M-O, I really appreciate your comment, thank you very much! Yes, I was trying to get that modern television off-channel sound incorporated into this piece but the signal sounds rather weak. I've used waveforms (preferably sine and square) to try to imitate that sound but turned out differently that seemed to have worked in the song.
Haha, that's pretty interesting how you were able to distinguish the last verse of the song as an ending theme for a television show, since I purposely was trying to get to that angle as this was intended to be a final dungeon-like theme. smile.gif

Thank you, I wanted to think of a title that described the song: the feeling of emptiness, despairity and even slight agitation; the last verse of the song does justice since it has that agitated feeling of abruption (as you've mentioned), at least I think so. smile.gif

Yes, whilst I'm terrible at describing things I hear, I have always been told that I have an ear for music (not much musical talent when it comes to playing instruments though) and that I can identify very specific patterns, sounds, and errors in music. I have a real love for music, though I'll never be able to compose any personally.

I completely agree with what you've mentioned, but of course you'd know best what you had intended each part of the song to do/mean. XD

Heedfully Treading the Uncleansed Ground - Mysterious and a bit creepy. It reminds me slightly of Kefka's theme from FF6. It gives you that same uneasy feeling. I like it biggrin.gif

Mystical Land of Magic - A very serene piece. The choir sounds cool and gives it a very intriguing sound. Nice job on this one!

Apparition of Abysmal Lament - Instantly this piece reminded me of something by Jim Guthrie (Who is amazing!). It has a very dark and mysterious feel to it. It's pretty creepy, and I love it! tongue.gif

Keep up the good work!

@X-M-O: I don't think you describe things that bad at all, I honestly thought you were somewhat of a seasoned composer and knew what you were talking about. That's definitely kudos that you have a distinct ear for music. Have you ever thought about making something just for fun?

I know what you mean, but I like the idea that I can make something that not only sounds subliminal to me but to others as well when they hear/see my works. Of course, I don't always want to make my submissions entirely too predictable since I would want others to interpret things differently and look at them on a different perspective. smile.gif

Lato: Thank you, you're right, it is peaceful and smooth and it puts me to sleep almost everytime. tongue.gif It was a pretty tough song to write, took me some time to finally get it down to the way I wanted it to sound.

thatbennyguy: Really!? That's amazing! Congrats to making it past 5000 posts X-M-O! happy.gif

Stern: Thank you so much for the comments, Stern. I wanted to make Headfully Treading the Uncleansed Ground as a mysterious and creepy song as a dungeon theme, chronologically, it'll be the first dungeon theme in my game since it introduces the combat system inside a dilapidated cave. I'm glad you liked Mystical Land of Magic, took me a bit of work to get the choir sampling just right, I think it turned out nicely. smile.gif Oh wow, never thought Apparition of Abysmal Lament reminded you of Jim Guthrie's works, thank you, I very much like some of his works as well. smile.gif I wanted to bring the best out of this composition in terms of creepy, sombre, and void-like as this will be the ending dungeon theme.

Thank you all for the nice comments!

I have a new song out named Tails in Full Bloom, let me know what you think:

Tails in Full Bloom

Enjoy! smile.gif

Thank you very much. ^^

I have actually made a few songs for fun before; a few years ago when I was messing around with Apple's Garage Band software. I made some cool music, or so I was told by my family, but I never made it available to anyone else. You're the first to even know it exists outside of my family, lol.
I'm unsure where it is though, but it was about a year before I lost my backup drive, so it might not actually exist any more - but it did at one point. XD

Yeah, originality/creativity in music is hard to come by. I mean, sure everyone can make what appears to be completely original music, but then if you can put it into an existing genre it is hard to say that it is completely original, so yeah what you mentioned makes a lot of sense. =]

Thank you all for the nice comments!

I have a new song out named Tails in Full Bloom, let me know what you think:

Tails in Full Bloom

Enjoy! smile.gif

Wow, that's really pretty. ^^
The underlying music reminds me of a mixture between the "we are Siamese if you please" song from Disney's The Lady and the Tramp and the background music from various songs in the SNES game Donkey Kong Country 2.
Very distinct sound, and really curious. happy.gif

The melody is also amazing and doesn't remind me of any music in particular. =]
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Tails in Full Bloom (which is a perfect title, by the way).

Oh really? I would have liked to have heard your music. It's too bad that you lost all of your work, have you tried writing songs again after knowing you've lost them? Oh wow, thank you for sharing that, I'm sure if you were to have others outside of family listen to your music, they'd probably like it just as much. smile.gif I always find that when it comes to family they'll always be honest with their child; if your family says it's good, then it HAS to be good. smile.gif
Speaking of losing music though, I hear you, I lost a lot of my music when my computer had a nasty crash, didn't backup anything so had to start all over from scratch. Between us, I actually had over 60 songs completed, a few others were incomplete. I think it's probably better that I had lost them because when I decided to re-write most of my older and newer pieces, they all sounded a lot better, not just quality-wise, but they are structurized better, and also, a lot of feelings are conveyed in them than how I originally wrote my older songs.

Thank you very much for your input on Tails in Full Bloom, I've put a lot of work into this one. I wanted to write this piece to represent the feelings of the three main characters in my game which they happen to be sisters, how their relationship as siblings unfold and how much more closer they become from the many obstacles that they are faced against through the various events that happen within the game.
Oh wow! It's an absolute honour that you would make a reference to "We are Siamese if you please" from Lady and the Tramp! happy.gif I've tried to make some distinctions to that of Disney compositions since I've always had a love for most music in each Disney movie, especially Wall-E.
I've had a few people tell me that they hear similarities to cute, childrens' nursery rhyme songs in a couple of the sections, but I never would have thought similarities from Lady and the Tramp, so thank you, I'm really glad you like it, X-M-O. biggrin.gif
This song really hit home for me, almost moved me to tears even, and it especially gave me goosebumps. I find that in order to write a really good song, it has to give me goosebumps. tongue.gif lol

Actually, no. I've never really had the time to go back and work with making songs again, so after losing them I never went back to doing that. I wasn't great by any means though, lol.

You're welcome. ^^
I have a certain fondness of Disney themes as well (not so much a Disney Princess fan as I used to be, but still a fan, lol). happy.gif

That's a really cool observation, because if it does give you goosebumps, you know it's effective music. wink.gif
I've never really thought about that, and I don't think many songs have ever given me goosebumps, but I'll try to be aware of it if it ever happens to me, lol.

Aww, that's too bad, wish it wouldn't have happened so that you would be able to post a few, not to sound pushy or anything, but I really like hearing other people's works. smile.gif There are different sets of ideas, inspirations, experiences and even emotions incorporated in the music that people write. It's not really a matter of how great or bad a song is, it is all good nevertheless, it's how someone presents themselves in using music as a form of expression; their own reasons for why they put out a song out there reflecting on all of what was just aforementioned.

Exactly, and a lot of compositions out there have given me those goosebumps due to how a song is written. I find that they bring a wealth of inspiration in how I write my songs, and surprisingly enough, I get those goosebumps out of my own music because of the inspiration lol. It's prettty cool. happy.gif

In the topic of music, I'm unfortunately facing adversity in my personal life right now, my cousin is in critical condition and is at a hospital being treated, won't get into details, it's pretty bad. sad.gif I'm not in the right state of mind to continue working with music at the moment so I'll be taking a little break. I'm hoping to jump right back into the bandwagon soon so that I can get working on more music again for everyone to listen to down the road. Thanks for your patience. smile.gif

Oh, I'm sorry to know that your cousin isn't feeling well. I hope things turn out all right for both of you.
Sometimes events like that are able to drive you to make music that you wouldn't make normally, because of your emotional state, so I can understand your reasons for doing that.
Take as long as you need! Everyone here can wait for you. ^^

Sorry I've been inactive for such a long period of time, things are looking up finally and should be on here a little more often. smile.gif
Thank you so much, X-M-O. happy.gif I agree with you wholeheartedly about how certain events can enhance your ability to create phenomenal music, I actually decided to re-edit a classic piece and...I almost feel like I've gone mad just because of how powerful this song turned out lol. But anyways, thought I'd share the finalized version of Ascendancy of a Fateful Malediction with everyone, I hope you enjoy. happy.gif

Ascendancy of a Fateful Malediction

Oh! I have another song I'd like to show you all, keep in mind this song is a work-in-progress. I normally wouldn't upload this, but wanted to hear your feedback about it.

In Presence of Serenity

In Presence of Serenity is named well, and has is quite beautiful. ^^
I'd love to hear the completed version soon; I'm sure it will be amazing! =D

@X-M-O: Thank you very so for the comment, glad you like what you hear, I'm very satisfied how Ascendancy of a Fateful Malediction has turned out and In Presence of Serenity is turning out. Unfortunately I am swamped with school work and it will take some time before I finish In Presence... along with other works that are a work-in-progress. I'm hoping that within this week or next that I can start finishing up some songs to allow others to listen to. smile.gif

Your music is awesome as always!

Ascendancy of a Fateful Malediction: This sounds like a movie soundtrack. At 0:35 reminds me to FF7 intro music. I'm sure, it has some of FF7 because in some parts reminds me to sephiroth theme. This song fits on an scene with the main villain, or maybe can be a villain theme or something like that. I love the song, and it's so epic. My favorite insturments were the flutes, the percussion and the voices. Excelent job!.

In Presence of Serenity: Reminds me to SoM and Chronno Trigger. Sounds beautiful and the bird sound was a good detail. I loved the harp part at 1:35. I'd love to hear the complete version too!.

Keep rockin'
