Here you will find work, done by me, in a photo editing software called GIMP. GIMP is a photoshop-like program that has easy to use features such as warp, noise, and more. It's free!
Now, using Corel Painter Essentials 4 which is an advance painting program used to immitate real life paining situations, such as brushes, chalk, canvas, grain, and so forth.

It looks fairly good. I've only used GIMP to make my signature down below, with the badass explosion and the parakeet smack-dab in your face and the stacked words of PARAKEET pelvic-thrusting your eyes.

I love the second, modified one. In my opinion, the stars look a little dull, though. It looks like you used the Pencil... maybe you should try the fuzzy circle brushes with the Paintbrush? The lighting also is a bit off; it doesn't make sense to have a small, illuminated circle to represent the lighting. Look at this as a reference, about half of the planet is lighter, though subtly. I also think you should make the planet's outline more recognizable on the second one. :0

For the stars, I just used "Hurl" in the "Noise" effect and made them white. Truly I don't think the starts look bad, they scream "HD" to me Hmm, I guess it would benifit it I did highlight the outer edges more.
One thing, I don't have the project since this was made a month ago, sorry.
But thank you the tips

While bringing up this topic again. Any ways, I wanted to do more art in Gimp and I wanted to try out new cell shading methods. And what better way to try it out then on a tablet?
And that's exactly what I did:
Refer to #3 in archive
I don't care about the reference, whatever inspires me to do art is good enough for me
I'm gonna choose a different reference for my next cell shading project Any feedback would be appreciated

That is really good. Love the Runescape character with the party hat.
For cell-shading, you've done very nicely. The lighting and shading bits actually look like there is a specific light source, so nicely done there as well. =D

Blending the colours and shades is only necessary if you intend on using gradients (for your sky, in example). I'd recommend making your sky look like the remainder of the artwork, and not using gradients at all. Unless, of course, you want to get more "realistic" and do everything with gradients.

I don't think harsh criticism is necessary, as I've seen artwork that is much, much worse in commercial games (recent commercial games, I might add). XD That said, you might want to be sure the next person you draw has a discernible chin.
Nicely done, overall. I like the way the hair resembles hay. Gives it a strangely natural look. =]

Wow, wow, wow! Haven't posted in a while.
Well I think I should start using some new advance programs to satisfy my learning. Here's what I've done in Corel Painter Essentials 4 Refer to #1 in 2nd archive

Looks pretty good to me. I like the shadowing, it really give it some depth~ Have you just started playing with Corel?
