The Fate of Mundus: Paradise Castle

"Our world, Mundus is in danger...
Mundus did not have a clue that it was in harm's way...
until The Scroll of Andorra was written by the Elders.
But yet, the chosen one has not been notified of the situation...until today.
It is the chosen one who will save the world from perish...
Long ago, a great castle was built. A castle of wonders!
But, somehow this glorious feat to the world became
infected by numerous past events.
The castle is now over one thousand years old.
No one knows what went on inside those walls.
But, as of now the world is in grave danger!
Awaken, Chosen One, for its your task to save us!
Save us......save us from...
Paradise Castle....before it is too late...."

Story

The "Chosen One" (Thaun) wakes up from a dream that has been calling him the "Chosen One". He gets up and decides to return the bar where he just had been the night before the dream. There he speaks to the local prostitute which is also the bartender. She tells him to speak to the old man sitting at the end of the bar. While Thaun speaks to the old man, the elder tells him a story about Paradise Castle. This old castle have had bad times and is now somehow the prologue to the end of the world or a new beginning. Thaun being the "Chosen One" must enter the castle to find out and to stop the destruction from happening, but first to enter the castle, the Signum of Paradise must be broken. It's a powerful seal that can be broken only by the power of the Amulet of Paradise. To get the amulet, Thaun must enter the Temple of Spei and go through five trails to prove that he is the "Chosen One". Once inside the castle you will find out what makes the castle ticks; a magical stone called the Petra. This stone holds the power that the Gods do not have. The story will surround the Petra ounce you reach the castle, everyone is after it. That's all the info for the story for now. The game will give you more detail on the story, so please don't judge it before you try it.

Main Characters

Thaun, The character you will play as. He gets aggravated easily.

Dise, The owner of Paradise Castle. Very mysterious, and he may confuse you.

Para, Dise's brother. Dise thinks that he is the one that is after the power of the Petra.

Gameplay

P.C is an RPG that pretty much uses most of the default settings in the database, but with a few tweaks here in there. There are traps that the player will have to get by in order to continue on with the story. Traps like rolling boulders, fire, jumps, and more. There are many switches and variables in the game that are complex. Complex that there are puzzles that you must solve by using switches, levers, and other objects. There is one puzzle that you must figure out to move on in the game. You have to pull four levers in a certain order. If you get it wrong, the levers will reset and you will have to pull them again in a different order. The main part of the game is inside Paradise Castle, there will be at least 14 floors to explore. With each floor having 5-10 rooms with puzzles and traps and of course, monsters. Also will have extra rooms for boss battles and when the player beats the game they will be given a code along with the player's game stats, ex: play time, number of jumps, number of battles, etc. They may post their code and stats as a comment under the game's description or PM me or whatever.

Well, I guess I'll start off with the story. The story is nothing special. Cliché, actually. "The Chosen One," we've all heard that before honestly, the hero awakes from a dream that calls him the "Chosen One." Sorta cliché too. The mapping is basic, and you've said yourself that you've used most of the default database with only a few tweaks. I don't admire that.

You don't have to admire anything.... I never finished a project and uploaded it before, so I'm still sorta new. I may be not good at mapping, but I'm good with events; variables, conditional branches, switches, and etc. I don't have much time to mess with the database, because of life and working all the time; maybe with the next project that I'll work on; I'll do more with the database. I'm working on getting the demo made tonight and maybe upload it also. smile.gif Thanks for your feedback though.

Yeah, I'll agree with Albino on this one.

The story is a little cliche, and doesn't really make much sense.

I mean, if I had a dream where someone called me the Chosen One, I'd dismiss it, get out of bed, and go chomp on my
morning corn flakes. woot.gif

But honestly, I don't have my own game up right now, so I shouldn't talk. Keep it up and work on that story a bit. Another thing I might want to say is to add a bit more detail to your outdoors maps, just to give it some flavor. cool.gif

Oh God, that post was really harsh... unsure.gif Soz 'bout that, but can you see where I'm coming from?

Ok. smile.gif About that demo, tonight is not going to be possible till to morrow, maybe. I uploaded the file for it on this site, but it did not upload. O.o
I'll do more work on it though may have to join a file sharing site. idk

I had to reactivate my account on 4shared. So I'll get a link to it sometime today, in the meantime, I'll work on the game more. smile.gif

So, as anyone tried it out? I need to know what I can improve on. I know I must work on the story a bit and some of the mapping...and maybe add more dialog....

Wait at least 72 hours before you double post. ~Rob_Riv

I'll try it out as soon as I can get on my computer. biggrin.gif
This reminds me of my first project. C:

Some things I recommend:
Work on the plot.
The main non-cliché thing I noticed was the prostitute.
O__o

And, from the looks of your screenshots, you may want to work on the mapping. There are plenty of mapping tutorials around here that you should check out. They're extremely helpful. I would link, but I'm supposed to be doing schoolwork right now. tongue.gif

The demo is an .arc file? Not to be a pain, but I suck with computers. How do I open an .arc file?

When in doubt, right-click and do properties. Then change it into a .zip or .rar by changing the name from game.arc to game.zip. C:

Or, if you have 7-zip, try using 7-zip to open it first. Right-click, choose Open. When it asks which program to use, tell it to use 7-Zip by choosing it from the list or by browsing to its folder. Hope that helped!! biggrin.gif

No go unfortunately sad.gif. Out of curiosity, what IS an .arc file? I thought all game compressions were either a .exe or an archive.

Well, I have no idea, but I'm guessing from the letters "arc" and the first three letters of archive also being "arc," it's an archive of some sort. tongue.gif
Your best bet is Google. C:

Thanks for helping. biggrin.gif I haven't worked on the game at all this week but I'll get a chance to do so this weekend. smile.gif

BTW, I used a program called FreeArc to compress the demo. It's similar to WinRAR. You can find a download for it by googleing it. smile.gif

You should either make it into someone else (such as .zip or .rar) or include the FreeArc in your demo since it's not software that most people are using right now.

I don't think I should include it with the demo, but I can go back and re upload it as an .rar; just have them both up. One that is .arc and .rar or just delete the .arc and make it .rar and don't include the RTP this time, too much MBs... what I should have done in the first place. sleep.gif

I may just do that now, I got some time to spare later on today smile.gif BTW i just found that FreeArc can compress files into .exe and many other files as well. I may give that a try.

*UPDATED*
Both .arc and .rar versions of the demo are up and ready. smile.gif
New screen shot of the mapping for the camp area; before in after.
New screen shot for completed version, the 5th fl. room.

In Paradise Castle, I've got the key to the 2nd floor, but can't figure out the switches. There's two doors with switches and spikes, but no matter what switch I hit or what order, the spikes won't move.

Edit: While I find parts of the story's cliches humorous, I agree the story makes very little sense and feels rushed. However, I feel that the gist of this game will come more from game play and combat than story. Mapping could be a little better, but it's not terrible, fairly generic which sort of fits the style of the game. The game sort of reminds me a little of an older title for VX (Castle Oblivion).

The real problem with the game comes from the enemies I fight, which for a big portion of this demo is just slimes. You fight slimes in the camp where you wake up, on the world map, in the temple where you train, and then in the castle itself. It's not until much later that you start fighting more enemies, but even then they are few and far in between, as I'm still mainly fighting slimes. It became to the point I just kept running from battles, because combat bored the heck out of me. A wider variety of creatures is much needed.

Yes there are a lot of problems with the game, but this is just a demo version. In the completed version, I'm hoping to get them fixed. About the spike problem, after you pull the levers, walk over the spikes and they should go down, making it safe to cross. There is one lever for each spike, you have to figure out which one goes to what. I can easily fix this by making the events Parallel Processes. That's what I done on one of the new floors that I started on a few weeks a go. And I do plan on fixing the monsters as well, but as you progress through out the castle, you will run into at least 1 or 2 new enemies on each floor hopefully. The story is rushed, I want it that way, because it's about a castle, traps, and puzzles, not really about the world and the people in it. I do agree, the story needs work though... I really hope to fix and finish this project, only time will tell... Thank you for reporting about Paradise Castle. smile.gif

*Update*
Pretty much stopped for now due to weather and other stuff going on in the south, but I'm not going to completely stop the project....It will get finished...hopefully. I need more motivation...

*New*
Working today, adding tints and more maps and working on the system a little more.
