Thanks a bunch man smile.gif Sadly there is no demo, the project still hasn't reached the actual construction phase. Right now, everything's just being gathered together and planned (scripts, dialouge, graphics, music, etc.) I haven't mapped or evented anything yet so a demo won't be out for a little while.

And thank you again for the kind words they mean a lot, I didn't expect this would inspire anybody so I really appreciate what you said. Thanks again for the kind comments!

The systems look great and there are a lot of concepts involved in the gameplay, which will help to make the game unique.

Hey thanks for the nice comments, I really appreciate it smile.gif

And while I'm posting, I might as well say a couple announcements:

1. Our artist is no longer on the team. Our artist, Ghalleon, who was to draw actor portraits, make icons, and more has been inactive. I've PMed and emailed him and he hasn't responded for about 2 months, I'm assuming he's very busy so until further notice I've taken him off the team sad.gif So we're looking for another artist currently or else main game construction won't be able to go underway.

2. New scripter. We may be getting a new scripter, a co-scripter alongside me, I won't go into details too much as it isn't 100%, but if this is to happen, expect the systems to be a lot better and maybe even extra systems.

3. I've finished writing dialogue for Act 1. Not too long ago, I finished writing the dialogue for Act 1 of 5 for this game. I've proofread it through only once as of now but I'll be continuing to do so to make it perfect.

Just wanted to say that we have a new artist on board! Her name is Mahomagic and she's very enthusiastic about helping the team fulfill it's face-graphic and character portraits void. She's also really great at drawing and will be drawing Gai's Hunters face graphics and portraits in a semi-realism format, similar to the sample she drew for me in this picture:

Hey everybody!

A couple new things. First of all, someone has been able to work on the World Map for the game. The World Map is an essential part of the game's construction as it is the way you travel from place to place. Meanwhile, Vergessen from HBGames is helping me finish up the scripting for the Interactive World Map system. By the way here is very early work-in-progress of the World Map (All the little dots are location markings):

Next thing is, since the team has grown since before, we should be moving faster from now. I've set goals for the team this month so by the end of the month, most of rest of things that need to be scripted will be done, the main character face graphics should be done, several icons should be done, and a couple new pieces to the OST will be added. Those are the major goals for January. When January is over, I'll post a major update to show all our progress through the month.

That is one beautiful world map Law, I'm guessing it will have more of of the usual landmarks such as caves, forests etc
added (or maybe not) but looking very professional so far wink.gif

The busts look great too btw, very japanese/anime style (bar nose) and the semi-realistic looks by far the best.

Woah thank you for the response DH, I have a lot of respect for you and your games so it's really an honor for you to give such great comments, I really appreciate it smile.gif As for the World Map, yes, that's a very early WIP, caves, forests, and more will be added like you said. In fact, the rightmost part of the map will have several forests in it actually.

And I'm glad you like the busts, I loved the semi-realistic one too and luckily that's the one she's most comfortable working with. It's going to be long process, but once we get everything together, I'm hoping the final product will be really nice, world map, face graphics, and everything smile.gif

Major Update:
January has come and passed and with it, some new major development to the game! Here’s a rundown of what’s been going on:


Main Character Face Graphics
Our artist has gotten to work on the main character face graphics! So far she’s done two along with their emoticons and she’ll be sending the other two (Bryce and Damien) over the weekend. Here’s how Anito and Heather turned out:

Weapons Icons
Our Icon Artist, bamboo123 has been working hard on completing a completely unique custom icon database for “Gai’s Hunters”. However, due to some issues she had over the month, she wasn’t able to get too many icons done, but this is just to let you guys know a custom icon database is being worked on smile.gif


Rockdale Theme
The Rockdale Town Theme has been completed! It’s easily one of my favorite songs from our musician Turkwise, you can listen to the track here:

All quests written
I’ve finished planning all in-game sidequests accessible at the Rockdale Pub. There will be 150 quests and each quest will have a “Quest Type”. There are six Quest Types: Battle, Conversation, Delivery, Search, Elimination, and Escort. Each Quest Type varies in difficulty and yields a different AP Reward. Finally, several quests are multi-part, meaning you can’t do one quest without completing the prerequisite quest, allowing for nice side-stories.


New Team Members
Xach-Crisis has officially joined as a Graphical Artist for the team!

New Title Screen
Finally, we have a new Title Screen. The old one was amazing (Thanks to Radethdart), however, since we’re not using Ragnarok Sprites anymore for the game, the title screen no longer fit and I didn’t want to bog down Radethdart with another task despite the fact that Xach-Crisis decided to join as a Graphical Artist. So, Xach-Crisis and I worked together on creating this new animated title screen. The video is a bit bad quality but I’ll fix it soon:

Next Time
Next update we should have all main character graphics finished along with several support character face graphics (Mr. and Mrs. Stone, Jasmine Brown, etc.) Additionally, about three new tracks should be added to the soundtrack, and all items, swords, axes, and sabre icons should be finished. The World Map should be also finished along with the scripting of it and the database should finally be complete. So stay tuned!

Thanks for the comments and the interest smile.gif As for the musician spot, I don't want clashing styles and I've been very content with the style our current composer has developed for the game. Additionally, there really isn't an overload of music to have two musicians and finally I'm trying to keep the team size pretty small so it can be manageable. Wow this looks very well thought out. It's good to hear that people are collaborating on big projects like this. I can't wait for the demo!

I had a question about the battle system. I looked up the script you mentioned and it reminds me of Fire Emblem (which is a good thing). What kind of strategies will be necessary to master in battle? As in, are certain classes/weapons/spells better at defeating some enemies than others? Is there an element system? Fire Emblem has a cool rock/paper/scissors systems with the three weapon classes (swords beats ax, ax beats lance, lance beats sword - I think), which I always thought was cool. The story looks great and I'm excited about all of the custom work, but I'd like a little more information about enemies and battle, if you have time :-)

Additionally, there are several skills, weapons, and armors that vary gameplay in unique ways. Additionally, there are several weapons classes, like swords, katanas, knuckles, etc. but I never considered a one is greater than the other, but that is definitely a nice idea. I'll try to add more information though, once I finish up with the World Map, Quest System, and Time System, I can pour all my time into the battle system which I'm thinking about adding some more interesting aspects like Support Abilities, Dual Wielding, Type Advantages, etc. Thanks again for the comments happy.gif

Cool, I'm happy to see you're so quick and willing to respond to feedback :-) I've played the FF tactics games and like them too, so that's def a selling point to me. The ability to set jobs and secondary skills sounds similar to FFV. Since it sounds like a lot of the strategy for battle is in setting up your party (forgive me if I'm wrong), it might help to have specific strengths and weakness attached to each class and monster (like warriors are good at fighting X but poor at fighting Y). I thought FF tactics was a little unbalanced because I got through the game by making everyone summoners and spamming big powerful magic attacks that hit a big chunk of the field (the game still rocks though for its story). Can't wait to hear more about the project!
