What's Going on With 4Shared? Options

I don't typically use this site, but I've come across a few games hosted on this site where I'm unable to download them. Unless I'm missing something, it would seem you must join the site and get their software before you can download other people's games. I've come across this a few times now, and I believe one or two others have as well.

I know there was some talk in the internet world of some sharing sites tightening the rains of how a person can download content, but not sure if this is what they meant. If such is the case, then it's probably best for game developers to use something else, because I don't know very many people who will willingily sign up for this service just to dl a game. And if it's something else, and I'm missing it completely, then hopefully somebody can explain it to me?

I would recommend mediafire.com. It's worked well for me for the past few years. :]

And 4shared did not used to do that. I've never had to sign up before to download stuff. I'm sure they are just taking precautions, cuz nobody wants to end up like megaupload.

4shared just freaked out after MegaUpload shutdown. They're not the only ones (FileSonic disabled file sharing altogether for instance). Use Mediafire or Rapidshare: both are reliable and professional services without affiliation program and they comply to DCMA requests without problem.

Odd... I downloaded stuff from 4shared at school earlier today and didn't have any problems with it o.0
Maybe it's just certain files (mine was just an mp3)

Maybe it's based on size of content. An MP3 would be small and I'd imagine easy enough to determine where it came from (in case it infringes on copyright material), whereas an indie game is a lot larger and perhaps harder for a site to manage, since it uses so much content. It may even be a setting the developer is unwittingly using when they upload their game. I just wanted to point it out that for those using this to upload their games, there's a chance a lot of people won't be able to download them.

Mediafire is, by far, the best file sharing site I've seen.
Heck, dropbox is great too.
I personally hated raphidshare and megaupload... But that's just me

Well, me too. I hate the wait times they give you. =.= They can get really annoying.

I honestly don't know what they do, but I've heard that some sites have cracked down in the wake of what happened to MU, so I wouldn't be surprised. And there were some issues with these sites letting just anybody dl content. Some won't let you dl anything beyond what you upload, which sort of makes file sharing mute, and others (like 4Shared) must be requiring you to sign up for their service even if you are just downloading content. But I agree, Mediafire is by far the best.

This was the FBI's whole intention. To take down the big guy, and have the others run and go into hiding. It's like grunts and elites, in Halo.

Rapidshare and Megaupload's waiting times were not only annoying, but are also very slow downloads on top of that, whereas Mediafire is instant, I can download 10 files at a time at 2mb/s.

Been lovin' Mediafire since forever.
