Are you implying Hirei is a hypocrite? Who does she have to give credit to? Herself? As Aquae is a finished product, I don't see it necessary to list creators of resources in the thread, which is why they're listed in the credits of the game. There's no comparison here.

Maybe there was miss wording on my part....Lets try this again:


I don't have time to go through every sprite, every piece of art work and every piece of bla and be like where did this pixel come from - who made it? - how ever on that hypocrisy i know who made some of my tiles.

One the hypocrisy is of my own for saying I don't have time and yet i know who made some of my tiles. so you don't need to get defensive. I refuse to start a flame war.

I don't have a game crediting system in place as of yet as nothing is official. what credit is given is for the official scripts and tiles and what not. two I am not concerned with your game or your ways of doing things - I just found it odd that my game was singled out. But i didn't raises fuss, I simply didn't know who created my logo - as its been ages. But i thought i knew who created some of my tiles. if you or others find that appalling then go ahead - my reputation is nothing.

and credit has been given in the OP to those who deserve it.

New Titles


That's right I have added four new titles. All of them get unlocked after you kill Sir Kaliven. How? After you kill Sir Kaliven a side quest known as "Dwarves of the Old" and title open up. follow that along and you can explore new lands not on any of the maps you see in town when you speak to a sign post. Exploring and finding ruins, camps and towns in these new lands opens up "Explorer" title. Following along the Dwaves of Old Story you can either open up "Campaign of War" or "Campaign for revenge" (you cannot do both).


in theory Opening either of those two titles up will give you access to swap your party members from the menu instead of going to a inn to do it. ((If you get menu access, you wont be able to swap from an inn any more.

Completing Explorer (in theory) gives you Class change from the menu - If you get this you wont be able to class change from the pub any more.

There are more titles coming including two factions which are yet to be named!

Side Story! - With choice


I have included (as mentioned above) two side stories in the game that link to each other (technically three - For now) with you being able to do only two.

1 is the Dwarves of Old - unlocked after you defeat Sir Kaliven in battle later on during the main quest. This makes you double back to the Dwarven ruins you pass through to get to Emith. You will then enter the weapon shop in the ruins to proceed to "New lands." These lands are not on the map.

While in the weapon shop you will need to look for "Old Dwarven Papers." These will allow you to continue on the story of the Drwaves of Old
.

2 is the Campaign of War - given to you by Fen. (if you take this quest you cannot do Campaign for revenge) - Fen tells you to spy on the Knights of VendenBorg in the ruins of Selevaria which he sates "We are on a campaign against Selevaria...." If you present the papers to Fen (the Old Dawrven papers) he tells you that there odd and that they hold no information.....(trust me there is)


3 is the Campaign for Revenge - given to you by Cak in the ruins of Selevaria. these lie east of the ruins of Baul. He will tell you to slaughter every one in camp sod - if you present him with the papers he will tell you that they hold the key to a dark power in his land.

Either way your choices will affect the titles you can take on and the side story. All the side stories that develop from opening up the passage to the new lands will reveal more about Trimithe and Alexious and the War. It also brings an interesting twist to the events of the game - How ever not doing the side story and continuing on will not trigger any of the twists and turn in the story - because while your off doing what ever in some new land time does continue to move on.

Note: You can always go backwards and continue on with the story (see FAQ).


New Maps


There are a bunch of new maps and a whole new upgraded tile switching system in place too that will swap out tiles (see FAQ). These tiles will be swapped out when you travel to maps that don't use the current tiles being used. The map total is currently: 203 maps. This total is expected to reach well into 3-400 maps.

With the new maps comes new events, more hidden items more music. a couple new songs have been added from the FFT (Final Fantasy Tactics) sound tracks.

With new Maps also comes new enemies and new challenges. New map designs and lay outs. (you can see this bellow).

New lands (See new Maps as well)


With new maps comes new lands that are not on any of the pop up maps you see when you enter a town and talk to a sign post to see where you are in the world.
these new lands hold new enemies but unfortunately no new guild battles as these lands do not know what a guild battle is. But they do hold guilds and contain guild halls which you can purchase. These guild halls contain people that you can buy elite weapons and armor from along with purchase talent points and store your items.

Guild halls cost up to 5000 gold and start at 1000 gold. - The cheaper the hall the less special objects in them you get. How ever there is a person in each guild hall that will allow you to buy additional items (like vendors) for 1500 each.



FAQ


How big will this game be?

I am aiming for the 100-150 mb range with 4-8 hours of solid play and 8-12 hours of play if you try and find all the hidden items.
This game will be broken up into Rared Chuncks for compression to download. - you will require winRar to un-compresss the game.


Whats the purpose of Guild Halls?

To allow you to buy weapons and armor that you cannot normally buy from a regular store owner or find. These types of items are rare and cost a pretty penny.
To allow players to have a chance - in Build 700 I have increased the gold out put. Currently I am on Build 725 of Version 0.3.1.

How many side quests will there be and how will it be apart of the main story?

I am not sure how many, Currently there are three and as the player moves through the side stories time goes on in the land they came from. meaning that more and more has happened. The may continue on with out doing the side quests and return only to find that events they would have played through have already happened. Or they may continue on through the main story and play through the events. Either way the story will change depending on what the character does.

If I play through a peice of the side story and then go back to the main story what will happen?

because traveling backwards and through the tunnels causes time to continue on you'll go into the new story where time has picked up and events have carries on. Of course you will need to reach a certain point for this to happen.

What is that certain point?

You will have to unlock the explorer title.


What will happen to the wedding or the attempted suicide that your boasting about if I do the side quests

They will still happen. Do not worry about it.

Honestly, I'm pretty offended considering that I actually charge people for my work. For the simple fact I hinted at reminding you that I made a gift for you without implying you really had to credit me, but at least look out for others who do things for you, your response bothered me.

Right now I could list off every person who has helped me with my game or has a resource in my game. Why can't you? Did you not consider taking the time when you started that with so many friends and progress that you might make a few enemies along the way by making such a minor mistake? That recognition isn't just to get their name in your game, it's so you realize that YOUR game wouldn't become what is is now, without their help (resources). Did YOU make it? Think about that. Or did you and others make it?

If you can't list the creators why use their material. It's like people who steal art, they think it looks good, use it, and suffer the consequences when people call them out for thievery.

We're looking out for your well being. it'd be sad to see a game with potential go down hill because of a forgetting to cross the T's and dot the I's

Just remember, it's not always about getting that slice of the pie, to some it's more... Much more.

Id say I am offended by your attack on me except as I read the rest its not much of attack. How ever I cannot apologize for not remembering because to remember every ones name after 4 months of being gone is like trying to remember the full out put of pi. It's impossible - to me.


How ever My rectification of the issue by placing yours and others names in the credits should ease your furious anger you place in your words. Shall we change the subject over to the actual feed back of the game and the new sneak peek on 0.3.1 and its new contents? or is there more that you would like to say?

Hey man,

I wasn't trying to attack you, I was expressing my concern. Even after 4 months you should have a list of resources that you've gathered or at least the website you got it from if you haven't acquired the original author's name.

It's not a bad thing it's just good habit to get into with game design... crediting the author.

I have no interest in a game that can't do something courteous and a sign of respect in the indie game making field. So I'm not going to comment on the new content that I am sure is as nice and grandeur as you make it seem. I have no doubts about that.

I just wanted to bring up the issue because it bothered me. Especially when Queue can go and look in your older topic and find the post that shows I made it, yet you can't figure out who made it. That's so selfish and lazy. I'd be ashamed of my self if I did that, but I can't speak for you.

I'm gonna leave my point at this.. Just use respect and common sense, the rest will fall into place.

Feed Back Wanted!!!!


So its been a couple days and the game still chugs along. I thought I would fill you in on whats been happening.

Scripts are coming to a final. Meaning that I will have selected all the scripts I am using for the game by the release of 0.3.1. Credits will be updated on or before the release of 0.3.1

All images are final as of 0.3.1 Meaning that the Images will be cleaned up and whats there is whats being used for 0.3.1

Music....This is a topic I have been dealing with as of late. There are two huge scenes I have yet to create - I have been working on the side story and trying to find a good place to end that for version 0.3.1. Music being used for the game is coming to a close on what songs are being used. I am thinking instead of using Artists like Taylor Swift and Kesha I am going to create the music using a web site that will allow me to do so. Currently the Audio Folder is 68.x Mb's in size and I want it to stay under 80. This will reduce the expected size of the game.

Game size...Another topic of hatred. I will be providing two version. WOTS Lite - requires you to have RPG maker VX installed which will reduce the download size by A LOT and WOTS - which will be the regular 120-130 mb download for those who do not have RPG maker vx installed.

Credits....

Yes these have been discussed and I have made mistakes as we all do. I even forgot the names of people. My hypocrisy scares me. as of 0.3.1 the credits section will be updated to show who contributed what and special thanks will be given in the "Special thanks" section to thank those who contributed the most. My intentions are not to steal, rip people off or offend any one. so I hope this will fix everything and set us all back on a positive track.


So what else do I have for you?

I am coming close to the end of 0.3.1 Side Story which is basically a war. I am trying to steer the side story away from Kill bob, Kill James, Kill x, y and z and make it more, talk to, read, find.....Less killy more frilly.

I am also working on developing the Trimithe - Alexious Story and the Main story. I have implemented now that when you reach the shores of the new land - the main story progresses and new events take place.

I have now added party switching to the main menu but to unlock it you must have either Campaign of War or Campaign of Revenge in your titles.

Version 0.3.1 is going to be a big release! I will have a sh*t load of new story, side quests that will have an ending of "In this version this is as far as you can go". The main story will be expanded to show the wedding, the attempted suicide and the destruction of the city. Three major scenes (yes I added a new one) all with custom music different then that of the FFT music you are use to hearing. I am also trying to add more detail to the maps.

I have chosen not to add class switching to the menu as the menu in mu opinion is big enough.

0.3.1 is Beta 3. This means that after 0.3.3 I will be releasing RC1 (version 0.4) which will contain 3 releases before RC2 (version 0.5)
After 0.3.3 The Stories (all of them) will be complete. All music, scripts and images will be complete. RC1 and 2 will be used to do advance testing, find all the bugs maybe add a bit more to the story.

The final version 1.0.0 will be supported until 1.0.3. This will allow for re balancing, fixing of bugs and other small issues.



After 1.0.3 the game will be 100% complete.

Require Feed Back



New content has been added this content takes away the "moving" title screen and replaces it with a static title screen. The Logo is still used.
This content redoes the opening title screen to add more to the menu, what new? Guild Battles. You can see the Blog post here or read about it bellow.


Guild Battles

This content may differ from the blog post as it is updated content - the concept is still the same.

I am implementing a PVC type of system - Player Versus Computer. Basically you will click on Guild Battles and be able to choose from any player of any of the classes. Based on that class you will be assigned to a Guild. You will also have a Guild hall that will have vendors. Such vendors will offer regular and elite weapons and armor. There will be a vendor for items as well. These Guild halls will have a "Guild Master" Which you can buy More vendors Like talent point Vendors and Stat point Vendors.

There will be Titles to gain which unlock more content and locations in the Guild Battle piece of the Game. The titles So Far are:


Guild Factions - Based on the Guild you are placed into you get a faction for that guild. Fill up the faction and get rewards.
Guild Hall Faction - Buy all the vendors for your hall and gain Factions
Stay Alive - The more battles you win, the more points you gain. How ever loosing a battle takes away points. Redeem these points to unlock more lands.

New Lands

You can unlock new lands which bring about the introduction of "Guild Quests" These take you to sections of the game not seen in the main story line where you can complete missions that are not as short as Kill a rat instead they are pretty much like stories. Completing these unlock more points That will unlock further content.

Update time!



Progress Report:


Side Quest Completion: 80% - re working some things to cause less glitches.
Wedding: 0% - Planning out what it will look like.
Attempted Suicide: 0% - Planning dramatics.
Bugs removed from 0.3.1: A lot. Played through and found a lot of bugs from 0.3.0.6
Scenes With out caterpillar: 100% - A lot of the time when Trimithe would look like he is talking to him self this was either taken out, reduced or a scene was created.
Guild Arena: 0% - Still planning this out and what I want it to look like and the features for the release.
Balancing of enemies/gold/XP: 100% - done for this release.


I am still working on things like mapping, story, Where to end the side quests, How to end a Guild Arene for a demo and other things like that.

I am also starting a new project called "War of the Souls, Soul Cry" Look for details this fall.

FAQ

So I went through the main story, then I went back and did the side quest -got to new lands and then went back and watched a new story unfold and played through that. Is that not a bug? Should I not be able to do that?

No its not a bug I wanted the player to be able to play all parts of the story and be able to immerse them selves in the story no matter what part of the story they are at. So if you beat the main quest line for 0.3.1 and then do the side content and go back to the main quest line you'll see a "twist" in the story because time continues to move on weather you are there or not and new events take place. You also learn more about why things are done and who people really are.

So what will the guild arena have? How will I get to it?

You will get to it via the menu on the title screen. It will have a guild hall with vendors and a "master" vendor that you can buy other vendors from. it will have titles for that character, you can do guild battles and and speak to guild story tellers who will send you out on quests and missions that have their own story line.

Is it recommended to play through the game before you go and do the Guild arena?

Nope. You can do either.

0.3.1 is getting close to release as the whole side story is finished. the wedding scene is also finished and uses FF12 music for the scene. All the while the attempted suicide section is also finished.

There has been a lot of reworking features to make this section work. 0.3.1.1 will see the release of the arena.

0.3.1 will not see the release of the arena like previously advetised

I'm not far in, but your intro scene was pretty darn engaging and I'm a sucker for FFTA (and FFT) music, too. I wish the battle song didn't change to the default RMT music, other than that... I'm liking the options so far. Watch your spelling, though. I'll try to point it out to you if I see them

Thanks for pointing out that changes, I can fix this for the next release

- Music has been changed for battle scenes - I really think you'll like the new music in 0.3.1

also since 0.0.1 the spelling has been DRASTICALLY improved. and with every release little things are noticed and fixed as i do a play through first before adding new content. I am surprised you are able to play I have to admit 0.3.0.6 is very buggy.

I have managed to finish the side quests for the game, wedding time.

What is ready for 0.3.1

- The side quests are done, testing is being done

The wedding scene and the attempted suicide scene are all going to happen at once. After version 0.3.1 (so version 0.3.2+) if you complete the game up to the point where Trimithe can enter the city and then go back and do the side quest and come back to the main story line, the story line will only be changed right up to the city.

I have a very big surprise and a massive upcoming plot twist for the wedding and attempted suicide. I don't think many games have managed to ever do this successfully but I think I will be able to pull it off nicely. It will shake the story to its foundations and put a course of events into action that will make the story deeper and open up a whole other door of questions....


Stay Tuned for the shocking surprise that is about to rock War of the Souls to its very foundations

@OranGemeo - did you manage to finish the demo? What are your thoughts?

Finished. I am now just testing and you should all expect a release sometime this week(end) if your lucky on the (end) part.
I am really excited to be releasing this new version as the game starts to wrap up you find out a lot about the evil, the characters and i even give a sneak peak into version 0.3.1.1 which is the release of the arena.

I am excited for this release because it will be the last one for a while, while I work on War of the Souls, Soul Cry.

I've been around on this forum for a long time but never reacted or posted on a game but this is the first time (I've played A LOT of free and paid RPG Maker games by the way).

I've downloaded it and I just started playing and so far I really like the music a lot, the fact that the whole screen isn't filled with a map is refreshing but I also noticed that I can't make the story tekst (in the tekst baloons for instance) appear at once. Could you PLEASE add that in the next version? I read the tekst a lot faster than it appears on screen and this really takes out the flow for me playing the game. (Waiting for a tekst can get annoying after some time...)

Keep up the good work, liking it so far! :-)

Hello.

I played as much of your game as I could, but a few things threw me off. I realize that some people have already pointed this out, but you have some errors in your spelling and grammar. There were things like "too" being used instead of "to", and there weren't commas where there should have been. That's not all that big of a deal, but it does kind of suck me out of the story. Speaking of which, in the beginning, the main character says something along the lines of, "Let me tell you a story. Let me tell you of love. Allow me to indulge your appetite in a story of passion." Isn't that a bit redundant? You could've just had the "let me..." bits and I would've understood. The next line was just the same thing in different words.

Also, there is a part that says, "It seems that with the winds of change upon a child who is not yet a man. We are deaf to the howling pain the winds bring us. Even in fall."

I think that what you meant was, "It seems that, with the winds of change upon a child who is not yet man, we are deaf to the howling pain the winds bring us... even in fall."

Obviously, there is more than way to fix it, but, even after the sentence is fixed, I still don't get what it's saying. Is the main character referring to himself as the child? What does fall have to do with anything? Sure it is fall, but how would that stop "the winds of change" from being heard any less clearly than in any other season? Maybe I'm reading too much into words. I've been known to do that.

In the first map, while looking for items you may have hidden, I was able to walk right off of the screen and into the sky. It was on the lower left corner next to some yellow flowers. I ignored it and continued to fight against those three people in the beginning. When my soldiers used their swords, a punching animation was played. I don't think that was intentional. Then, halfway through the fight, an error message showed:

"Script 'Display Enemy Gauge' Line 44: NoMethodError occurred.

undefined method 'actor?' for nil:NilClass"

I don't know what it means, but I wasn't able to play past that point. Did I do something wrong?

Your maps are excellent, other than that one flaw mentioned earlier about walking onto the sky. I'm a bit interested in the story, too. Some things are just preventing me from enjoying it too much.
