Abstract: This game will be a remake of the 1982 Classic "Tunnels of Doom" for the TI-99/4a home computer. It features Randomly Generated dungeons, monsters and treasure.
Genre: Fantasy Dungeon Crawl
Engine: RPG Maker 2000

Download
Tunnels of Doom Version 1.01 - http://www.waxius.com/?wpdmdl=2

Demo Gameplay Length
This is a short 1-3 hour demo.

Story
The Demo contains the classic story...
"Up to Four Players ventures into a dungeon beneath a ruined castle. Your Mission is to save the King, who was captured by the monsters. You must also retrieve the King's Orb of Power"

In 1982, games didn't contain much of a story. This project intends to give this classic game the rich story it deserves!

Characters
You Pick 1-4 of the following characters to start your initial party:

The Fighters: Ethan, Alex, Jason, and Laura
The Wizards: Cyr, Fizgig, Yohan, and Yara
The Rogues: Jacob, Ryu, Doug, and Sidney

For the next phase of the project.. these characters will be given back stories and other distinguishing features.

Though it may change... this is what I currently have planned:

Ethan | Swordsman (Captain of the Royal Guard, Major Character) | Abilities: Sword Techniques, Leadership bonuses
Alex | Adventurer (Reckless Youth | Death Wish, Main Protagonist) | Abilities: Sword Techniques, Rage
Jason | KickBoxer (Friend of Alex | Major Character) | Abilities: No|Weapon Fighting
Laura | Fighter (Mercenary | Minor Character) | Abilities: Sword Techniques, Dirty Fighting

Cyr | Wizard (Elemental Wizard | Minor Character) | Abilities: Spell Learning (After casting a spell from scrolls a number of times he'll learn the spell and not need scrolls anymore)
Fizgig | Wizard (Old Sage | Counsels Ethan, Minor Character) | Abilities: Summoning, Blue Magic
Yohan | Wizard (Warlock | Brother to Yara, Minor Character) | Abilities: Elemental, Combo with Yara)
Yara | Wizard (Witch | Sister to Yohan, Minor Character) | Abilities: Healing, Combo with Yohan)

Jacob | Rogue (Thief, Minor Character) | Abilities: Steal, Pick|Lock, Disarm Traps
Ryu | Rogue (Ninja, Minor Character) | Abilities: Throw, Two|Weapon Fighting
Doug | Rogue (Engineer, Minor Character) | Abilities: Mechanics, Compass, bomb
Sidney | Rogue (Acrobat, Minor Character) | Abilities: Charm Monster, Communication

Credits
Graphics are almost all exclusively RTP. I've done a little graphic editing with GIMP. Music comes from "Tunnels of Doom Reboot" by Dream Codex

Additional Screenshots

Features
- Grid Battle system, plays exactly like the classic game, similar to D&D games by SSI "Pool of Radiance" and "Champions of Krynn"
- Randomly Generated Maps; your exploring is also automatically recorded on your Map Item.
- When you open chests.. instead of "telling" you what you received.. the items are layed out on the floor for you to pick up.
- Nearly everything is random... you will never play the same game twice!

Progress
Version 1.0 Demo is complete. You can explore two floors of the dungeon.
Working toward the completed game

Known Issues
- If one of your characters is killed in battle in a room containing a treasure chest.. the chest disappears. Leave the room and come back and the chest will be there.
- While in Battle... the "Game Stats" menu option doesn't do anything at all.

That's odd.. I used Windows 7 to zip the file up. Let me see if I can get you another one. Thanks for trying!

Try this one (Windows 7 zip): http://www.waxius.com/?wpdmact=process&did=MS5ob3RsaW5r

or this one (IZarc zip): http://www.waxius.com/?wpdmact=process&...TIuaG90bGluaw==

I took the music files out because it made the download so big. If you can open this... I'll send you all the music separately.

Atlus,

According to AVG... both files are clean. I've never heard of that message before either. My friends who've downloaded it didn't have any trouble. Wonder if there's a way I can send you the files without compressing them?

Also... if you do get the .zip open.. that will be the game without the music.
So here's the music pack: http://www.waxius.com/?wpdmact=process&...TMuaG90bGluaw==

Just copy them to the music subfolder.

Wow this game is great buuut

I personally think that the ranged attacks are cheap. Is there a way to limit the range somehow? Other than that great rouge rpg.

AGAIN! I finished trying it and the music zip foldier finished so I tried to extract it and again it says its not compatible. And that was a windows 7 zip was it?

Cool... This is good feedback. I'll make another music.zip file for ya using IZarc.

Ranged attacks were common in the original game. There's a good chance that they'll miss when you use them. Pretty soon though, the monsters will have ranged attacks as well... so it will be somewhat equal on both sides.

Thanks for giving it a try!

Here's IZarc music pack for you:

**Update**

Tunnels of Doom RM2K Version 1.01 is available for Download.

I have updated the original post with the new download link.
Download Tunnels of Doom Version 1.01

There is now no need to download a separate music pack file.

What's new:
1) The Story mode, instead of doing nothing at all, now has a 7 minute prelude cutscene.
2) Some bugs fixed.

To see the intro... please view this thread where I've asked for a critique.
