- Writing Software/Tools -

OpenOffice
Don't have word? Powerpoint? or Excel? This open source bundle is all you will need. It can save in windows word format, read powerpoints and much more.

Notepad++
For coding, Notepad++ works wonders.
Works with a ton of languages.

Celtx
This is the program I use for writing all of my (dialogue) scripts - games, plays, or films. There's also a graphic novel setting.
Makes formatting very easy. AV or Screen formats are best for games.

Storybook

Adobe Story
Adobe Story is great for script writing. You can work online or offline, and you can collaborate with your projects, and you can even export to PDF, XML, CSV, TXT, Microsoft Word, or Movie Magic Scheduling.

yWriter

RoughDraft

AbiWord

Text Block Writer

TypeWith.me/
This document text is synchronized as you type, so that everyone viewing this page sees the same text. This allows you to collaborate seamlessly on documents in your Web browser.
Go ahead - send the link to this page to a friend, colleague, or co-worker and watch the magic unfold!

GoogleDocs
Similar to Typewith.me - I use this regularly for writing works that I need to access and edit from different computers/locations. It also supports multi-user with synchronizing writing and such. Very useful! (Submitted by Stern.)

Writing Articles
This one would be great for plotting out individual sections/dungeons for an RPG, I'd think. There are other nice articles here too. (Submitted by Hunterfox.)

Writing Tips
Some excellent tips from some truly top-notch names in writing. (Submitted by Hunterfox.)

Please feel free to contribute links (with descriptions, preferably) by replying to this topic. The OP will be updated as necessary. =]
Also, if you find a dead link or mistake in this post, please report it - thanks!

Fantastic list!

I personally use CeltX, and I can't recommend it enough. It works fantastically for my comic, and the end result looks professionally made to boot.

Also, thanks for the writing tutorial links. This will go a long way toward creating a immersive world for my potential game smile.gif

You're welcome. ^^
I'll be adding some more links as I find the time to pull up old bookmarks and filter through them all, lol.
Anyway, I'm looking for resources and links - so feel free to contribute! happy.gif

EDIT:
There's also a free app on android market (not sure about apple stuff) that lets you access and read stuff through your cellphone.
