Questions and comments:

1. Can this make TACTICAL CARD GAMES? Will there be a template for such games?
2. Can this engine be used to make commercial games?
3. Will 3D sound be supported?
4. How exactly will the user interface work? Will it be simple as RPG Maker? Will there be an easy button for importing cutscenes, or would most of the code for that have to be edited by the user?
5. Thanks for starting work on such a brilliant engine. I look forward to buying it once its finished. Possibly as my company's primary engine, provided that it can be used for commercial games.

Sorry if some of these questions were previously answered. I'm ill today so I probably skipped reading something >_>

Questions and comments:

1. Can this make TACTICAL CARD GAMES? Will there be a template for such games?

It most certainly can, and i could include a template in it if you wish, shouldn't be too hard now. but it will be very basic, since the rule system would have to made from scratch by the developer.

2. Can this engine be used to make commercial games?

yes, but only if the engine is bought. No commercial games can be made with the lite version, unless theres a splash screen promoting this engine. I haven't really thought this area out, but either way yes it will be able to make commercial games out of it.

3. Will 3D sound be supported?

you'll need to explain to me what 3D sound is, im unfamiliar with that. but one thing for certain is that the engine uses the FMod library, one used on the Playstation3, Xbox and most other consoles. happy.gif

4. How exactly will the user interface work? Will it be simple as RPG Maker? Will there be an easy button for importing cutscenes, or would most of the code for that have to be edited by the user?

The user interface has yet to be 100% worked out, the aim is for it to be as user friendly as RM software is but more advanced. As for cutscenes, i will most probably be adding an import button, this is also not fully worked out. All the code to the engine can be tweaked to the users likings in the pro version, that way you can make the engine the way you want it to be.

5. Thanks for starting work on such a brilliant engine. I look forward to buying it once its finished. Possibly as my company's primary engine, provided that it can be used for commercial games.

Its my pleasure, i hope that once released this engine will attract a few people.

Sorry if some of these questions were previously answered. I'm ill today so I probably skipped reading something >_>

I hope that answers your questions happy.gif

3D sound is simply the closer you get to a sounds origin, the louder the sound gets, and sound that comes from either direction. Game Maker has such. My team is making a tactical card game using 2D and 3D elements made from C++ scratch, but looking for an engine to help us develop it in the future. I'm pretty much looking for an engine that is a slight bit more powerful than GM/RPGM to make a variety of game types in both 3d and 2D. ^^ But thanks for the answers biggrin.gif Looking forward to possibly buying this when its completed.

Another question (sorry for all of them >_<).

Will this support sprite scaling to make those brilliant 2.5D games? You know, prerendered backgrounds with sprites on top that can "walk into" the background due to scaling? If so, this is the most awesome engine ever that I anticipate. ;O;

You mean Isometric style? Yeah, im adding that support into it. mainly because i personally want that support biggrin.gif Don't worry about asking questions, ask as many as you like. It sometimes helps to give me ideas when you ask about it. :3

Not so much isometric as I mean prerenders. Something along the lines of this. The sprites scale on top of the prerendered background so that it looks as if the characters walk INTO the picture. These are my favourite kinds of gfx for video games and the type I'd like to produce most. Would be great if there was a simple way to implement this without having to code something to scale the sprites. I'm no programmer so I'm not sure how simple it'd be to make an engine that will let a user easily pull this effect off.

I've kept my eye on this engine, and I'm really impressed.
In fact, I got you something. biggrin.gif

Because it became apparent that you needed it. wink.gif
And... I'll be the first proud wearer of this! Nyah.

What files will be useable with the 3D part of the engine? Will we be able to use...I dunno, .obj meshes and .c3d animations?

A large list of compatible files will be nice biggrin.gif
Time to get to testing the alpha :3

Edit : Gegh, the Alpha can't even load..The CPrompt window just shows a bunch of errors on how it can't load the files in the directory, and shows a black screen that says "Welcome to the ThunderStorm Engine Test..."

I'll donate for this!

Error skin1.png cannot be opened: Failed loading libpng12-0.dll

@ Majin
when reporting an error it's best to always report the specific code, this will help the coder determine what is wrong with his/her's coding.

@ Leg
Sounds like you forgot to included a dll file that loads the images of the editor? Can't you code it from a path like xml?
And by what I'm guessing, the engine only supports png files at this moment.

yeah, must have forgot to add that in.

So far the engine supports these file types.

.mp3 , .ogg, .wma,.jpeg, .bmp, .png, .blend (blender filetype for meshes.) , .mpeg

As for support, all i need is the word to be spread. No need for me to put money towards it just yet. I already have Visual Studio which is enough for development at this time. But thank you.

Ah yeah, thanks zackwell. Dont worry, i will happily let you test it :3

At the moment im kinda stuck for the Engines Editor Layout, and how it should look.. If anyone has any ideas and wouldn't mine making a mock design for me. That would be very helpful and would speed up the process of making it :3

Close, oh no. There are still a fair amount to be done. I've almost got the game rending finished. Then i'll be moving onto the actual editor itself.
