I was trying to put in a couple of battler pics I made into my game. The pics went in and are transparent for the most part but leave a blue ring around my pic.I've tried changing the png files to a bmp file and tried several different types of bmp file. You know 256 bmp, 26 bmp but none of that worked. Is there anything that I can do to get that ring from around my images?

Can you show a screenshot of the problem?

Not sure if this is the problem, but if you re-size pictures the colors get distorted and so maybe the colors around your character arent the same exact shade as the rest. But yeah, without a screen shot its hard to tell what the problem is.

Have you tried to make a new project and try to do the same there. If it dissapears, then something is wrong in you current project.
Maybe a script problem.

Or, more likely, you have some pixels that aren't the same color as the others. This most often happens when you resize a picture, so it's a good idea to remove the background before you do.

Anyway, there's an easy, if tedious, solution:

Go to your favorite paint program. Open the battler image out of the game's graphics file. Expand the image so it's nice and big, make a 1-pixel eraser, and get to work cleaning up.

I can see you problem right away, it's a jpg file. This shouldn't be a choice format for these things, your best choice is to use .png it's like .bmp but with a smaller file size.

It's got nothing to do with his project or any scripts. Even if you don't resize the picture and save it as a .jpg this will happen.

I haven't got time right now but I could do this step by step for you as a tutorial if you like.

Here it is:

That's not the problem. As I said earlier I made png files of this same image that didn't work, I changed to bmp 256 first that didn't work, then I changed to 26 bmp and that didn't work. The only reason this one is a jpeg is because this is the orginal sample image I had after I had colored with photoshop. If it was simple I wouldn't have bothered asking anyone.

Now I might consider some kind of color change due to resizing but I know this was also a old rm2k problem as well. The only thing is I can't remember the solution for the life of me.I will take a look at your jpeg solution however. It might refresh my memory of what to do.

Like mentioned before, the pixels closer to the character are different colors. Its probably a lighter blue, and when you set transparency on in RPG maker, it will only do away with a certain single color. The best thing to do is to open up an image editor like stated before, and take a 1-pixel eraser and go through and erase everything that is left over.

JPG Image Correction

I am not above admitting that I was wrong.I tried your jpeg correction on my png files and it works just as effectively on pngs as they do on jpegs.I still think there must be a way of turning anti- aliasing off on photoshop which I think was the main reason behind the problem but this is definitely a good alternative.Thank you for the tutorial.

As for unka Josh I saw your comments but I honestly couldn't wrap my head around it because I was seeing one color and only one color. But like you said when you look at it on a pixel by pixel basis it does show a different shade of light blue next to the character than further out.

Is there anything I could do to make sure I get it right the first time.I would like to make more of these resources in the future but if I had to do a bunch of fixes afterward I probablly wouldn't make as many.

This is maybe the reason for the blue aura, but not that the image gets transparent.

The only reason this one is a jpeg is because this is the orginal sample image I had after I had colored with photoshop.

Even Photoshop will do this colour variation when saving as a jpg. No matter what you save it as after it will not remove what has been set, saving as a png after a jpg will preserve each colour exactly as it is in the jpg file.

This is the reason at pixel releated websites they always make it a rule for submissions to be in mainly one of three formats .png .bmp .gif

When working in Photoshop with this kind of thing make sure you've got a transparent background set and then save it as .png after you've finished without using a main background colour.

Stripe103 when you import that battler into RM you left click on it to set the transparent colour.

I see..I will definitely try this again but next time avoid coloring the background any color. And to think I did that initially just to have a color background to make transparent.Anyway thanks for the quick replies and going through all the trouble of making a tutorial for me.

It's no problem at all that's what we're here for.
I see trial and error the best form of learning, especially for this type of thing. I found doing this tutorial quite fun and now there's somewhere to point people if it ever happens again.

I know that, it just that i've never managed to make more than one colour semi-transparent.
