Good to see ya posted it over here. I saw it posted over at rpgmaker.net. I can't comment much on the bugs, since it's been updated since I last played it. I will say, the class system took me getting used too. The reason being, it's been so long since I played an rpg that old school (these days you end up with predetermined ones). I might experiment with it at some point, and see if I can make an overpowered combo (while it seems your testers were good, i'm a skilled tester myself). Anyways, the game itself was good overall.
There was something that bugged me, that I never read anything about. I could be wrong, but I thought I would ask, to be safe. When it comes to tiny medals, I noticed that when you switched over to a diffrent main character, the counter kind of reset. Thats understandable, being a whole diffrent person that collected them. My question is, are there 100 exactly, or do you need to save them all up, and cash them in at the very end, to get the best stuff from those?
Oh yea, and good to see the imps attack now lol. I might not get around to playing the new version for a bit, but good to see ya got some fixes out there. Thats all I remember to comment on for now. Anyways, appreciate ya posting it over here, since this was a good game =).

QUOTE (Rob_Riv @ May 9 2009, 11:05 AM) Interesting game, what scripts did you use for the class screen? and I assume that that screen fills up throughout the game? I wrote all the scripts in this game myself. Unfortunately, the way I coded the scripts made them rather tightly coupled with the game itself, making them difficult to reuse effectively. Of course, this was made in RM2k3 (the project was started back in early 2006), so it's the proprietary scripting language of RM2k3 that I used, not the ruby scripts of later makers.

For anyone who is still following this, Solitayre finished his well-written review of Hero's Realm (bringing the tally to 9, 8 of which are here). A wonderful trip back to the land of Old-School. by Solitayre. Here is the conclusion: QUOTE Overall 4.5/5 The game sets out to complete a goal, and indeed completes it very, very well. Twenty years ago, this would have been a best-selling commercial game. Anyone who likes old-school RPGs, custom class systems, or cheesy epic fantasy storylines will probably like this game a lot. It has all the elements of a classic RPG with plenty of humor and fun extras thrown in. Definitely recommended. I've also received inquiries on how I successfully designed and developed a 30 hour epic in RPG Maker. I must state that a 30 hour game was never my intention, but that's how it ended up. (Frankly, I find it even more amazing that dozens of people finished it, too.). Anywho, preamble aside, I've posted my work publicly. For anyone who's interested in the files I used to keep track of HR's development, here it is: http://rpgmaker.net/users/105/locker/hr_planning.rarThis includes that magical spreadsheet I mentioned to Brickroad, as well as 19 text documents. It's a big info dump, but sometimes I find that looking into the developer's mind is interesting! Let me know if anyone wants me to explain anything or have a question. I'm also happy to report that Hero's Realm is currently the #1 ranked RPG at GameJolt. Which is pretty cool for an RPG Maker 2003 game, I figure.

I had a few relevant PMs here at RRR (despite me not actively promoting my project here) that I thought would be worthwhile to share. Full Games & Long Demos threads tend to grow stagnant after a while and there are some things that I'd like to point out. But first the PMs: QUOTE Hi there, I wanted to bump your topic on your game but didn't want to necro, but I just wanted to tell you what an outstanding job you did on this game! This is my favorite any RPG maker game, being a gamer that grew up on NES and the first few Final fantasies and Dragon Quests, it was very nostalgic down to the music, sprites, maps, equipment/skill names, foes, and sound effects. The game is well balanced and a lot of fun to play, I play at least an hour or two almost every day! And considering I hardly play games anymore thats quite a bit, considering most games keep my attention for 10 minutes and I get annoyed with it and quit playing.
Anyway just wanted to say thanks for making a fun game, I would've seriously paid money for it. And I hope you plan on making a sequel of sorts in the same old school fashion. Happy game making. The game is buried here and needs a bit of exposure. Thanks for playing and I'm glad that you enjoyed it! I grew up playing Dragon Warrior and the SNES FFs, too, so you obviously see all my influences. Good to hear that I was able to draw you back to playing games. A few people have said they'd have paid money for this (dang! I could be rich!) but I'm just in it for the glory of internet fame sake of creating games. Maybe I'll buckle down and code something from scratch along these lines and sell it, but not likely. Maybe if I lost my job or won the lottery. As for sequels, I made another game called Generica http://rpgmaker.net/games/1044/ that is also a romp through nostalgia, except that it is NES nostalgia. I made the game in 10 days start to finish in March shortly after (finally) releasing Hero's Realm. You'd probably like it. Thanks for playing and thanks for the feedback! -Kenton QUOTE Hi, Heroes Realm is a great game. My wife has been playing it for many hours but is totally stuck in the Colossus in Chapter 5, What order do you set the 3 levers and 4 switches. No clue anywhere to figure this out. Hate to see her have to quit now because of this puzzle. Please help. Thanks There are 4 seats in the Colossus that must be occupied by one of each of the 4 parties at once. When everyone is in position, the Colossus activates and you can smash the mountain. There is a seat in the hips, heart, head and top of the head. FAQ and WalkthroughDue to popular demand (elsewhere) I have created a FAQ and a high-level walkthrough for Chapter 5. You can view them here: Walkthrough: http://rpgmaker.net/games/82/walkthrough/FAQ: http://rpgmaker.net/games/82/faq/World Map: http://rpgmaker.net/games/82/worldmap/You Might Also Like...: http://rpgmaker.net/games/82/recommendation/Cheers!

A while back I was interviewed by a writer from Hyper Magazine regarding RPG Maker, its community and my personal experiences with it. He told me that it was for a future article on the greater RPG Maker community for his Australia-based magazine. Two months later Hyper Issue #203 hit the shelves and lo and behold the article was published! Since it is not sold where I live, SGCN had kindly purchased the magazine and scanned in the relevant pages. I have re-uploaded the file here for your leisured reading! http://rpgmaker.net/users/kentona/locker/hyper.rarThis article is really good - much better than I was expecting (or was it fearing?). Liam did a good job overall at giving the community a fair shake, and juxtaposing commercial and non-commercial activities. All the interviewees gave great, honest answers that really reflect well back on the RM community. Glossy Ahoy! You might also notice the plug for 4 RM communities: RMN, RRR, RMRK and rpgmakervx. The full article (Warning! Large images):It looks like that along with me, Drunken_Paladin and harmonic were interviewed by Liam (the Hyper writer), with DP giving it the creative outlet angle, myself going on about nostalgia, and harmonic giving his commercial venture perspective. Actually, I was surprised at how like-minded we are in a lot of respects! All in all it is a great article! Thanks Liam, and thanks Hyper!

I picked the game up about two days ago and I've been loving it. There's definitely a lot of Final Fantasy influence present, but there's more than enough of your own flavours thrown in to make the game really fun and interesting, while leaving me with a healthy amount of nostalgia.
I like the way you've done the party and class system, first of all. I just completed the first chapter last night, and it was a pleasant surprise to see I've switched characters, so I'm intrigued by how that will play out as well.
So far, the story is solid, the moments touching, and the mapping is great. The dungeons are pleasantly complex, but in a more or less natural way - not just for the sake of being a mess. You've created a great game and it definitely deserves the positive reviews it has received. Fab work and I can only hope my own will live up to what you've made here!
