Sorry, awkward title, I couldn't think of anything better.

What I'm trying to ask is, when a player selects something such as a journal from the item menu, how can I make text appear?
So, when you click on the journal: the screen goes black, text appears, after you're finished with the last box, the screen re-appears.
Sorry if this doesn't make any sense.

Here's how I have mine set up.

-Have a switch called "using journal" or something like that.
-Make a item that activates the switch "using journal" with unlimited uses and ca only be activated on the field.
-Make a common event called "journal" that auto-starts and triggers when "using journal" is on.

Hide screen
Show a picture that looks like a journal
Show screen
Show choices for different sections

Branch: if switch "thing happen" is ON
Message (description of thing that happened as written by the supposed writer)
else handler:
Message: "this page is blank."

Hide screen
Erase picture
open main menu
show screen

You can also apply this to make other kinds of readable book items, photos that you can look at occasionally, and maybe even a music player.

Ah, thank you shinyjiggily, that worked wonderfully, and it was easy to understand for somebody who's still a beginner, like myself.
