I've dabbed in RGSS quite abit in the past, and I want to pick up RGSS and learn it so I can script mostly on my own.
So, to begin with my learning. Could someone direct to me to any easy/user-friendly tutorials that are easy to pick up and learn before moving onto harder stuff?

Hey happy.gif First of all, I just wanted to say that a big part of learning RGSS is from trial and error (I realized that a little too late laugh.gif). Nonetheless, tutorials do serve their purpose, but I think only when you just start learning RGSS. This is because a lot of tutorials give you the syntax, or what a lot of things mean, but they don't give you practical applications, or how you'll use that code to make like a custom menu system or system or something. However, learning this syntax is important, so here are some beginner tutorials (I advise reading them in the order I give):

--Learn About Variables

Gubid's Variables Tutorial
(This one is for VX but it still remains the same for XP)
A resident Variables tutorial here on RRR

--Control Flow

Everything about If statements, for loops, etc.

Classes/Methods/Inheritance

Another tutorial by Gubid, but it easily works for XP

Windows and Scenes (This section is optional)

I made a couple tutorials on this subject a long with Night_Runner

Basic Windows
Selectable Windows
Advanced Windows
Command Windows
Scenes

After all that, you're going to need to edit and play around with EACH default script. You'll need to know how it works. Two great useful tools to use while doing this are:

1) The Help File (Yes, I cannot explain to you in words how helpful it's been for me)
2) The RGSS Reference - An in depth review of each default script

Sig Stuff

"When you first come, no one knows you. When help them out, they all know you. When you leave, they all love you. When you come back, they've already forgotten you." -- copy into your sig if you think this quote speaks true!

If you are one of the very few teenagers that know what real rap is and don't blindly listen to the hate statements (rap is crap), then put this in your sig. I say this in the name of Common, Mos Def, Lupe Fiasco, 2Pac, Nas, Talib Kweli, Eminem, and many others. -Exiled One

Thanks Law! I'm also aware of the scripting basic tutorials you posted, I read them a long time ago.

Oh alright cool, but it's better when you already know about other stuff like variables, arrays, and control flow before you get into Windows and Scens (unless you already knew about them). Also, if you have any more questions regarding RGSS while learning, just throw me a PM and I'll see if I can answer smile.gif
