Been awhile since I provided anything. I was meaning to do this at the beginning of the year, but had not had much chance. Anyways, for those who kept up with my Nonsensicals, this is a more serious side of my inner workings.
A Proverb was one of the first ones I wrote, and I think it does a good job setting the mood. It's not very deep, but I think the implication is there all the same, in that for every action there is a reaction, for every ying there is a yang, and that death and life and good and bad must somehow coexist to create a proper balance.
Contemplation and Puppet Master are probably my two favorite poems I ever came up with.
With Contemplation, I put myself into the mindset of a person who is on the brink of death and how they perceive the living world around them. Everything seems turned upside down, and nothing makes sense. They're only fear is that when they die people will forget to cry for them. The first and last line talks about waking up/opening your eyes and going to sleep. This was the point where a person has accepted that death is inevitable (waking up means they've come to accept the reality of death).
With Puppet Master, I was thinking about society in general. We have a President, Congress, government, and laws, all trying to take control. There's always talk about pulling strings and being in charge. The question that is sort of asked though is who is the puppet. In the beginning, the puppet is controlled by the master, but at the end, the master appears to be controlled by the puppet. It could also have deeper meaning as well, especially from a more religious standpoint, in dealing with fate, destiny, a belief in a God, and free will.
Finally, Regret is a sort of sad poem as it explores a world many are all too familiar with. We all have said or done things we regret to this day, some more so than others. It's rather depressing, with no real hope at the end. But maybe all it's really meant to do is show people that there are consequences for everything they do.
Hope you enjoy these.
A Proverb
What is wisdom without ignorance, Humility without arrogance?
What is life without mirth, Death without birth?
What is mind, what is soul, What of the laughter that innocence stole?
What then is a proverb Without a people to teach it to?
Contemplation
Wake up and go to sleep Close your eyes that you may see Tomorrow will be another night The sun has lost its moonless shine.
What’s up is down And all around Feet in the air Head in the ground.
I whisper a song that I shout to you I read a book that nobody knew A song without words, a book unspoken My life’s a joke, a symbolic token.
Am I hear today and gone the next Or am I a vision, an image, a ghost of the past If I open my eyes and go to sleep Will somebody notice and stop to weep?
Puppet Master
For every puppet who walks the street Waits the master who holds the string; For every cry heard in the night Hides the madman with the knife.
For every secret, for every tale, For every demon possessed with hell; For every shadow that claims a soul, A candle lit, its path unknown.
Whispers chant, A grave unmarked Eternity at an end. To die the deaths Of a thousand deaths, And no one to reprimand.
The strings untouched, The master bids, Forever controls the man. Souls entwined To a wicked deed In search of an upper hand.
For every puppet, for every soul For every reason, its truth untold; For every master who walks the street Waits the puppet who holds the string.
Regret
My life is slipping.
Drifting Into emptiness Sleep deprived With so much uncertainty To what tomorrow will bring.
Gone Are the dreams of yesterday Reality has spread its wings And soared away.
Life Continues to pass me by Every day I watch The shadows of my past A reflection of things lost.
A moment Here And gone.
No repeats.
The consequence Of a thoughtless action Leaving my life Crumbled In the street.
