Hello there people!

So I thought I could make one of these threads as well to show some of the stuff I've made. The bad and the good.
Any pointers, tips or general feedback is greatly appreciated. If you just want to mock me for being bad, that's also okay

My personal favourite!

Removed all my art-content due to new guidelines

Music

Songs are sorted by date added

Reflective (Flashback)
This was meant for a sad flashback in the game, but the flashback wasn't sad enough to fit with this song : )
It's written by Jacob Sternborn

A Life Beneath (Not finished)
This one is still in progress. I'm not super happy with how the piano sounds. Mostly because I don't
like Fruity loops standard piano samples. Other than that, It's quite okay. It's written by Jacob Sternborn

A Life Beneath(Finished)
This is the finished version of the main theme of Beneath. It's written by Jacob Sternborn

A Piano-focused piece
This is a piece I quickly whipped up to try different sounds with my new Piano VSTi. The concert piano might not sound super together with the percussion, but it had to do for the moment. The song is written poorly by Jacob Sternborn

Steady March
Here's something I made after getting more used to the new piano sounds I got. Written by Jacob Sternborn

Mastering Agony
This piece was written for one of the more powerful scenes of Beneath, it might feel a bit repetetive, I don't know. What do y'all think? It's written by Jacob Sternborn

Recreation
This is after disastrous scene in Grace. Written by Jacob Sternborn

A Planned Death
I "doodled" a bit. This piece wasn't made specifically for anything :>

Waging War
I wrote this for the competition on R3. The theme was symphonic orchestra. It got 2nd place

Don't Look Back
A very upbeat march-inspired symphonic piece.

The Bells of Deceit
Morbid, Melodic and orchestral chimes ;D

A Life Beneath
The main theme of 'Beneath' remastered.

Woodlands
This one was made for RRR Exclusive resources.

A beat, bit by bit.
I found a few VSTs and dabbled around a bit, tried a few sounds, whipped this up in 10 mins-ish.

The Dwarven Forge
The Dwarves rallies to the sound of the march-like brass echoing through the great halls. It can be heard all the way to the Great Forge. The smiths bash their hammer to the rythm to keep the working spirit up.

Enchanted Meadow
It's quite short, but just as the other ones, it loops very well. Download is enabled here as well.

A Slow Day
This was meant for a forest village. But I suppose it could be used anywhere it fits really. Download is enabled.

Perspectives of Sacrifices
This is for Beneath. It's meant to portray the loss of something important for a greater cause.

Darker Recreation
This is a darker version of Recreation. It's used in the first important boss fight in Beneath

Never yield
The original title was "War" and that's the scenario it tries to paint. It still needs some work, but I can't say I feel like spending more time on it at the moment.

Obsessed
This is written for a certain scene/plot twist taking place in Chapter 4 in Redland.

Walk The Streets 4 out of 5
This was a piece by piece demonstration of how I make my compositions.[/b]

I'm sad, so I'll whistle for a bit.
For once I think it came out pretty nicely, not much more to say!

Ostinati-Classical Inspired
A piano-only piece that was made more like an experiment rather than a full song. Hence it's length.

Funk n' Death
I've grown weary of RPG-style fully orchestrated themes and I started working with other instruments. I have a few tracks similar to this one in the works. It mixes some elements of jazz/funk with more traditional sounds. It should be an insteresting listen.

The Amazing Me!
This was my submission for the RRR Music competition. Just thought I'd throw it into this post.

Killed by Curiousity
This was an attempt at making a freaky/creepy song, while keeping a very melodic feel. I intentionally avoided dissonance, with the exception of tritonus, of course! Not sure what I think about it yet, as the only sound samples I found for the voices/tools were different qualities, hopefully it's not too noticeable.

Love to hear what you guys think!

Here are a few more songs!

Valataus Theme
This is the theme for the main antagonist in Beneath, it's written by Rahul Chacko

Reflective (Flashback)
This was meant for a sad flashback in the game, but the flashback wasn't sad enough to fit with this song : )
It's written by Jacob Sternborn

All feedback is appreciated, the bad and the good kind smile.gif

Anyone had a chance to listen to anything yet?

Here's a new one.
Battle Theme 2
This is another Battle Theme. It's written by James Lennie.

Which one of the Battle themes do you guys like the most?

(Here is the first one if you missed it in the main post.)

/Regards

They're pretty cool! They all sound very Baldur's Gatish xD Which is a good thing. I think my favourite was Reflective and the 2nd Battle Theme was pretty good too. Although it feels like you could get a little more emotion out of it, the instruments seem a little robotic if that makes any sense. Anyway, it's sounding awesome so far - keep it up!

@Knot: Thanks for listening and giving feedback biggrin.gif. I'm happy you liked the songs. I understand what you mean with robotic, I think. It easily sounds a bit robotic when you're using instruments from a database instead of a live recording. Although a few of the songs probably need to be changed a little bit, thanks for pointing that out.

/Regards

I suppose the first battle theme felt... loose, I suppose? I would try and clip the attack times on some of the background instruments, if that's possible. Also, I would add a bit more stuff to the first song - it was mainly a few spiccatto string arpeggios and some background sounds.

The second battle theme was really the better of the two. It had a lot more stuff going on, and was a bit nicer.

The Valatus theme was pretty imperial, with a good mellow horn-based melody. I liked it!
Reflective was pretty brilliant, but I would try to create a "strumming" effect with the harp's chords. You could probably do this with grace notes or, if you're using a sequencer that favors piano roll over traditional sheet music format, some 64th notes. All the other tracks were very good in particular.

As a general note, every single percussion sample I heard was General MIDI. I don't like General MIDI, especially when it's put into a song that has brillaint samples for all the melodic instruments. It might take a bit of cash on your part, but I would go and find some quality timpani, snare drum, and drum kit samples - FL Studio's default setup comes with all the samples of those you'll ever need (8 drum kits!), save for the snare drum.

I hope to see more of this from you guys - it's good stuff!

Thanks for the elaborate feedback it's greatly appreciated.

I think you're pretty spot on when it comes to the first theme, we're going to have to take another look at that smile.gif
I like the idea with simulating a strumming effect of the harp, gonna have to experiment a bit with that when I get home today.

As for the general midi percussion. This is very true. I'd like to see them as a placeholder for now, I do have some orchestral percussion samples (The timpani in the first Battle theme, is the only song I'm using that). I haven't played around a whole lot with the FL standard drumkits yet. Also the standard timpani in FL sounds awful tongue.gif. Luckily I have the one from EWQL.

Again, thanks for the feedback biggrin.gif

/Regards

A random question:
Does anyone know any quality Piano VST plugins or samples? As I mentioned above the Fruity Loops ones sounds a bit 'meh'

Thanks for the comment! smile.gif (both here and on the youtube video)
VSTi is Virtual Studio Technology. I'm not super good at explaining how it works and how I use it but here's the wiki-page. The Piano one I'm using is called Pianissimo (video of it in action).

And a new song;

Steady March
Here's something I made after getting more used to the new piano sounds. Written by Jacob Sternborn

That one's really nice, it definitely suits the title of Steady March.. I could probably even march to it if I wanted to.
What program do you use?

Wow this is some nice work you have here. I also use FL9. Maybe we can work on a piece together. I could use some pointers in piano.

@arokalot: Thanks! I'm glad you liked it. I'm happy you picked up on the "Dark and mysterious yet uplifting". I tried to make something similar to this. Hence the strong focus on the piano.
