*UPDATE*

Finally got the hang of of variables and stuff
Next thing that I will be doing is creating a whole new intro!!!!!!!!

I'm being alot more picky with my ideas and have now gotten together a study group to help me out with my game.

I'm keeping my previous dungeon!

The main character's name shall be Tex.

I will be posting the screen shots in my submissions if anyone wants to check it out.

I won't write a review for my blog on this game again. However, I will write a list of all the problems.
  • Your opening theme is Final Fantasy, really? - I mentioned this at the end of August, and yet you've ignored it completely.
  • Grammatical errors
  • Your control explanation says "Z: (like the A button in pokemon)" ... that's a terrible explanation. Call it a confirmation button.
  • You spell "thanks" as "thanx" and "please" as "plz"
  • The whole introduction is pointless. You're really telling people to equip items and use inns? What's with the patronising introduction? How is it necessary?
  • During the introduction, there are two sprites of characters. Now, the game doesn't tell me who they are. From playing the game before, I'm guessing it's the developer and the other guy that were in the game then. Why are they there? You have no reason to put yourself in the game like that, even if it is in an introduction.
  • Now, after that pointless introduction to the actual game, there is now an introduction that introduces me to the story of the game, which leads on to the fact that THERE ISN'T AN ULTIMATUM, and yet the game is called Ultimatum. I explained this on August 29th, the name may have changed from Solidstrife to Akimaltos, but it still stands.
    QUOTE (Rob_Riv @ Aug 29 2010, 11:40 AM) *
    QUOTE (SOLIDSTRIFER @ Aug 28 2010, 05:33 AM) *
also if you actually researched the word Ultimatum you would know why i named it that way,
again you did not pay any attention to my intro

Why should I research it? I know what it means. Maybe you should research it? There was a sword called Ultimatum, Seifen said "if the war doesn't finish in seven days, I'll give you the sword to help you win", seven days later he gets the sword and swings it and the entire nation of 'Solidstrife' was gone. There's no ultimatum, there's not even any mention of a conversation between Leon and 'SolidStrife'.
  • If you stand...

Then the nun can't move, and you have to start the game again.
  • Even after I defeated all of the wolves, I couldn't pass the guard, so I gave up at this point.

Well because a lot of people that have never actually played an rpg game such as one of the ones created here. So the intro had nothing to do with what the game was about whatsoever
think of it as a small tutorial that was completely non-canon.

I know I had many complaints on that

and my professor had told me that I had created and Ultimatum with the one stated there so I am just going to take his word for it.

This will be my final demo until I release the game.

I will post up another improved link, but I am no longer asking you to play my game if you so choose to no longer do so.

Thank you for playing though and for your heavy support.

You say the intro had nothing to do with the game whatsoever... What the hell was the point in it then? An introduction should introduce some vital characters and story. If it doesn't have anything to do with the game, then it needs to be changed so it does have something to do with the game.

Also, your file size is like 99.8MB. What... the... hell... Are you still using MP3s? If so, please convert them to a lower sized type of music file, this is taking forever to download. And if I find you are still using Final Fantasy music, I will actually throw my laptop out the window.

and I was referring to the training session in the beginning with the wolves. I have fixed the correct variables to allow the player to pass on to receive the diploma I also got rid of that lady that blocked the way.

Why should people ignore a fact? An introduction introduces characters, story etc. and if your game lacks relevant details to the game, it's pretty much pointless and can confuse people. And you said it was to familiarize people with VX... If people wanted that, they'd go check out Tutorials around the web or something.

Unless you mean it was to familiarize people with YOUR game and its features. However, from what you literally shouted at me, it is to get people to basics with VX.

I have yet to play your game, and I will play it now.

I took up the challenge and did a review of this game. Well more of a play by play... my head still hurts from the effort.

The intro was the biggest bit of confusion:

QUOTE
Leon’s group of renegade warriors managed to take on half of the castle’s troops but they were too much for them.
They overpowered Leon and took him to the king.

Leon told his men to flee and that he alone was to confront Akimaltos. Believing that he had Leon caught, the evil king held a public execution of Leon. When the executioner raised the axe to end his life Leon cut through his rope.

How did he cut it? You’re telling me after they had captured Leon they didn’t think to TAKE THE SWORD AWAY? As in DISARM him? So they let him be fully armed this whole time… So they had tied him up… or so I’m guessing, as it’s not said anywhere. Than he had cut his rope? HOW? If your hands are tied you can’t cut it! This whole part makes no sense.
QUOTE
And raised his blade.

So he had the sword all along? Why didn’t they take it away when he was captured? Shoot if it was so powerful, HOW did he get captured in the first place?

QUOTE
He then swung his sword at the direction in which Akimaltos was standing and all the anger, all the sarrow, was gone along with the rest of the evil country.

If all he had to do was swing it, why didn’t he do that BEFORE being captured?

that and you didn't change at all the conversation with the father when he blurts out the secret to his son then goes I KEPT IT FROM YOU TO PROTECT YOU FROM IT! if you really did.. then don't blurt it out idiot. @.x

I like how this is one of the most popular games this site has ever seen.

NOW I'M GOING TO REVIEW IT.

Alright. I clicked on the download link, leading me to "ULTIMAUM.EXE". I downloaded the 100~mb in a couple of minutes, because 100mb isn't really that much. So far so good. I installed the font it came with, just in case. And then I decided to open the RMVX project file before playing it for some reason. Immediately a map named "NOTHING" caught my eye. I clicked on it, and it was indeed NOTHING, besides a magical shrine looking thing in the corner for some reason. A couple of maps below this one was a map named "for the idiots". I could tell this was going to be great.

I opened the actual game this time and the game seems to have changed its name from ULTIMAUM to Ultimatum to WTIMJTLINI. I was also presented with some pretty familiar music, no idea where it could've come from though so I'm going to assume that SOLIDSTRIFER is a genius composer.

Oh wait. Now there is no music at all. Or sound, for that matter. Better talk to this random woman who has been surrounded by rogue wolves. She asked me if I would like to heal. Better say yes, even though it is the very beginning of the game and nothing has happened yet. Safety first, guys. I walked up to one of the wolves and it got all up in my shit. The twist here was that it was actually a werewolf apparently. I used "HECTIC SLASH" on it and fucked it right up, now I'm level 2.

I walked south a little and found a dude who told me that I had to kill all the monsters. Aha, now I get it. There must be a really good reason that I didn't start where he was in the first place because SOLIDSTRIFER is a great game designer and he wouldn't leave something like that out. I went through and killed all the other werewolves with ease, I didn't even have to speak to the mysteriously identical women offering to heal me. Oh wait, this one is being tricky. I keep missing and then "werewolf dose warcry" but it didn't appear to do anything. This music is really good, too. I also love how the werewolves cannot hit me and how I go up 1 level each battle. After 7 completely identical battles I was able to move on to the next section, to a dwarf who would like to "congratualate" me on my success.

FUCK YEAH, I EARNED MY DIPLOMA. And to make me feel even better, there's some glitchy music that went for about a minute before fading away. Then the guy said "Go and make us all proud". Okay. Where? Oh, south. Okay. Off I go. There were heaps of chests, most of which gave me an indication of the location of something. Eventually I got that something and talked to some guy who let me pass through to the next obstacle course. I don't know why I'm still doing obstacle courses since I've already got my diploma but whatever. I continued down and there was another obstacle course but at this point I got really confused because apparently this was the first obstacle course oh god what I must be so bad at this game

I skipped that obstacle course because fuck it and then went to see my father (hopefully to yell at him for telling the guard that I couldn't swim) but it seemed I was just hurling myself back in time. I am honestly having trouble keeping up with this game's complex non-linear storyline. Wait, now it's making sense again. My father, after telling me to go get my diploma (jokes on him - already got one.) he congratulated me for getting my diploma and we went to the gigantic tree to the north. Now I have to defeat the spirit of the behemoth. I've got a feeling my dad is trying to get me killed. First he sends me to a water filled obstacle course knowing I can't swim, now this. Wow, this forest has palm trees. Some water I found healed me, then I went into a cave full of lava.

Apparently I'm near a volcano. Jesus christ, this game has werewolves AND volcanos? Awesome. Oh god it's the spirit of the behemoth, a cluster of white lights that magically turned into an actual behemoth. Again, SOLIDSTRIFER's musical skill is shown off here. I defeated it then passed out. Luckily my father was there. Now I'm in a town. Wait a second, did I just live in a house my ENTIRE life and only when I was able to prove myself to my father I was allowed to leave the house and go into the world? What the fuck, Leon? You asshole. Oh wait, now I've discovered that hes been lying to me as well. It's okay though, I'm about to get my revenge by killing him for some reason. There we go, he's dead. Oh wait, now he isn't dead. The Hero of legend(YOUR DAD) has now joined my party.

I didn't know what to do next, so I went back north to some woman who told us that some guy was looking for us. Apparently this was an evil omen, so now we are on a mission. Now I'm in some ruins, where a shady character tried to sell us drugs (i think). There's battles everywhere, luckily my dad just fucks everything up without any remorse.

Oh fuck. OH FUCK. AKILMALTOS IS BACK. HE IS LAUGHING AT ME. Oh wait, don't worry. He told me he didn't exist. It seems that SOLIDSTRIFER has his own heavy metal band now too. Now an assassin just fucked up all my shit. Now I'm dreaming or something and talking to Aklatimatnaosnos and he's implying that everyone has lied and that the entirety of the game's storyline is bullshit. Oh shit it is a genie or something. Oh wait, no, it was the god of fire. Now there's gods coming at me from everywhere. Now I'm talking to super-jesus or something, he told me I was humanities last hope. Then I woke up in my bed, but the screen went black again. I guess this is where I save the game and go into the editor and fix it. Or something. I don't know. I'm giving up now.

I rate this game 5 out of 5 stars.

Hey Ember, it seems when you opened the project you may have set a new starting place. As you were to start at that shack with the father THEN do the pointless obstacle course. Check out my review of it
http://taiine.wordpress.com/2011/02/19/rmv...atum-demo-v2-0/
and see how it was to start.

rofl I see I'm not the only one who can not read the poorly hand drawn title screen. I read it as Wtimutum.

Nope, didn't edit the starting place. Didn't even click on the map where the starting place was.
I think he probably uploaded a new version and forgot to put the starting spot in the right place.
I liked it better that way anyway.

Ha, nice. Just shows what a rush job hes making this out to be. Feel glad you didn't have to go through the 'how to play' intro where he says the Z button is like the A button in pokemon.

This whole project just seems like he found a 'cool sounding word' (ultimatum) without fully understanding it's meaning then made a game around the word, making it into a 'cool sounding sword'... and when called out that what he has is not an ultimatum, he tried to edit the game again to work around the stupid title. Rather than going the easy path and just change it like everyone said to. As is there still isn't really an ultimatum in the game. Also shows an extreme lack of play testing with the amount of bugs found.

Now he uploaded a 'fix' where the starting point is screwed? So there is prof that he himself does not play test his own games, or he would have easily found that out.

He also ignored something said to him back on page 7. About having all these extra files that are not yet used in the game, but are still there making the file size of the game HUGE.
