Barret looks really good for an 8 bit sprite, Good to see you experimenting with dither shading on that brick wall, THe window (i suppose it is a window right?) looks a bit on the flast side, maybe you could apply dithering on the white stipe there.

Overall they start lookingpretty neat so far!

It may not be good, but I'll try.
(P.S. try to stick to known characters. I'm better at that.)

All your sprites are super cute! >u< like really adorable.

Also, just imo, but shouldn't "challenges" be all about new things? Ya know, getting out of your comfort zone to improve and all that?

If you want to improve as an artist, you gotta try somethign different from time to time. overspecializing on one thing tends to stunt one's growth. Even if you think the result will be bad, still give it a go, we'll see what you did wrong and what you did right afeter you're finished.

After all, your arent turning down my challenge aren't you?

No, I'm not. I just need practice on character sprites, then I will move on.

Btw, I just finished the tree. I told you it would be bad.

The outlines are nice and crisp, and while still looking "flat" for the few shading you have done on it you did a good job at giving it certain volume already. Sure, it isn realistic tree, but it gives the idea acrossof what it is and that is agood thing to start with.

Try applying the dithering techincque in thethershold bewteen the highlight and the shadow of the tree as well as using amiddle tone and use it to antialias the shade and give it texture, You can also try outlining the tree in a really dark shade of it's colors rather than black, usually looks better that way.

For a cartoony tree the shape is fine, but if you'd like to attempt a more realistic looking tree (and i definitvley reccomend you do) Do some obevservation studies on photos of trees, for art of any kind, observation is gonn ahelp you like you wouldnt believe.

Ok so, you want to practice a character? ALright, do any character youd like, only bigger now, 20 wide and 40 high is good.

Could you possibly not add them as attachments, instead use an image hosting site to host your images and then post them using the IMG tags. I don't normally d/l images instead I prefer to view them online tongue.gif My computer Hard drive is running outta space as it is

Aeris!!!! biggrin.gif excellent choice and excellent execution! Your style is great, I'm a sucker for oldschool sprites. Do you do just characters, or environments too? If you can do environments you can make a wicked game.

CAN YOU DO CAIT SITH? CAN YOU CAN YOU CAN YOU?!

How is your computer even functioning well enough to not tear your hair out? huh.gif
Lol.

On topic, the caitsith and aeris aren't bad. It seems you're losing some graphical quality somewhere in the process though. Are you saving as a .jpg or .jpeg? If so, it's not a good format for sprites, I would use .png as it's not lossy and much clearer then the former.
