I was wondering what people thought about using RPG Maker to make a film. I've seen this pulled off with Slimey the romantic novel, a movie made using rmvx scenarios recorded. I thought this was pulled off quite well and for a long time have been thinking about doing something of the sort making short scenes in my spair time. What do you think?

Would it be any good if it was pulled off well?

It would all depends on the level of work you are able to put in. Movies are all about the visuals, so if you do wish to follow in the footsteps of Slimey then you will need to have extensive knowledge of Parallax Mapping. Movies are about the graphical context....so using standard RTP would be abit risky.

If you are confident with parallax mapping and eventing then I think you should go for it smile.gif

I would recommend checking out Alter A.I.L.A. Genesis for the 2K3 which was designed as platform rpg. Every cut scene in that game was hand drawn to represent an anime stillshot. I think with Ace you can port as many pictures as you want (unlike VX), so something like that would be pretty nifity.

Already checked it out. Also I think I'm going to use rmxp because the sprite sizes aren't chibi. I'll get some facesets to get the same effect as slimey and already started creating some scenes. I'll try and make it as visually appealing as possible. I'm confident with eventing, as for parrallax mapping, no but may as well try and see what I can do. unsure.gif

There is a script to change the VX sprite characters from chibis to the XP characters.
So would allow for higher amount of sprite sheets.

by using XP instead of VX...you won't actually need parallaxing, due to the amazing tilesets that you can gain..E.G inquisitors tileset. It would be easier using XP. It all depends on your opinion of Chibi sprites, i sometimes prefer them tongue.gif

Surprisingly I started on a similar idea couple of days ago, trying to convert the play The Importance of Being Ernest into RM.
You'll have a little more liberty than I will by using your own story (the ability to change location etc.), but I found one of the major ways to make this more visually entertaining was to pay a lot of attention to the background, to the point of giving background characters their own story. You don't want to draw focus from your own protagonist, but just think of every character as the lead of their own story, you just happen to be focusing on another.
Some understanding of the conventions of cinema would be handy and, in my case at least, voiceovers seem to be practically necessary to keep the audience engaged (since just about everything in a play happens through dialogue -_-), but that'll likely be different with your own story.
Btw, is there a way to close a text box after a set time rather than pressing a button in VX?

I think its something like this \^
but I'm not sure.

And yes, my story for this currently doesn't have a main main protagonist. But a set of important characters at the moment...

One thing you don't see much with RPG Maker games is "Choose your adventure" novel style games. Wonder how well a game that played out similar to this (no battles) would be.

I guess like Mass Effect, without the missions. And hopefully with a different ending than ME3.
