Emulated PS2 games can be made to look quite good assuming that your computer can handle it. There is your backwards compatibility. Just take a console, dump the bios and use your bought copies of the games.

You can probably find PS2 games very cheap nowadays, and there are tools to rip the ISO from the discs to your computer for faster, smoother gameplay. PCSX2 is an emulator that's probably the best PS2 one out there.. runs quite fast with minimum settings on my computer and it's a piece of crap xD Also, depending on your graphics card and system specs, I think it can upscale the game textures by like 16x I think. Just get a nice gaming controller (I use a PS3 controller with Motioninjoy, which allows you to play with your ps3 games on the computer, using xInput I think) and you have an extremely authentic PS2 experience.

even the wii did ps2 emulator fine with hacking it of course.

I had no idea the PSX one doesn't work very well... neither does the n64. I'll have to try out the PS2 one then x) I'm assuming you can play with Gamecube controller?

PCSX2 (the emulator)
Motioninjoy (if you want to use the PS3 controller on your PC, also works with any other emulator and PC game)
ImgBurn (ripping/burning ISO files)

I only used playstation controllers with the wii so no idea, can't get my ps2 controllers to work on the wii u though...

Seriously though you can't expect have backwards compatibility for 2 generations, the PS1 was kept because they didn't use an exotic gpu and cpu, but they did with the ps3 because ken loves exotic hardware but bit them in the ass with the ps3...

Seriously just build a cheap PC for emulation, a lot of people do this and just get a usb adapter to use the controllers.

3DS has NDS support. PSP Vita doesn't have PSP support. (Paying to DL a game you already own is not "support)
WiiU has Wii support. PS4 doesn't have PS3, 2, or 1 support, unless you pay to buy games you already own again.


Wii was backwards compatible with GCN. PS3 was not with previous consoles (Except for a select few 1,000 first run models which were discontinued. I'd personally buy the shit out of one of those PS3's) Xbox 360 wasn't originally backwards compatible with the original Xbox but they added support for it later.

Wii U is backwards compatible with the Wii, which is the previous generation. Same as the Wii was for the GCN, allowing the previous generation to not have to buy two separate consoles is pretty great. PS4, like everything Sony does anymore, uses essentially the same hardware (Bluray player hello?) yet isn't backwards compatible with the PS3. That's just disgusting, IMO.

The NDS was backwards compatible with the GBA, and the 3DS with the NDS. PS Vita has...? Yeah, nothing.

No, two different architectures Sony's plan is to solve it through emulation.
The Wii and GCN were very close in architecture and had GCN on a chip, The cell works differently and would probably cause more problems than it's worth considering it was flawed to begin with...

The PS1 and PS2 had close to the same architecture or the ps2 just had an upgraded architecture, the ps3 was a vast departure. X86 actually secures the ps5 to be backwards compatible as while the xbox 360 is PPC based the original xbox was not and caused a lot of issues.

Architecture plays a huge role in backwards compatibility, stop crying over it...

Sony only started to make a profit off of the PS3 as of last year however, both models are cutting edge technology for their perspective times. I can only imagine that they're trying to get people to buy their systems on solely that principle (quality of the brand). It could go either way from here.. Be a huge success or a great failure, but that's business.

It comes down to your money, ladies and gentlemen. It's all profitability.

Also I hope they got a better marketing department in the mean time, for the PS4 ad.

I've had many systems from Sony, resilient as fuck. Plus, I'm always impressed by the innovation that company has, a necessary component to be able to compete in today's market.

The Sony betamax, as example, was the first home video casette player, until JVC found cheaper alternatives to make the same device. Sony also fucked themselves there, instead of attempting to make partnerships with other technology companies, they patented it, but many companies found a workaround.

To be honest, when I think about Japan period, I think high quality brand. Maybe that's just me?

The 720 specs have not been officially released nor has the ps4 (what cpu, and the official gpu they'll be using we just know 8 core and amd, the cpu for all we know can just be a last gen xeon)

But specs wise yea I think the ps4 will favor better, but it comes down to who has the best games.

You can't beat PC graphics. You just can't. PC will always be ahead because it can be constantly modified and updated. Consoles are released and if you modify anything, you're screwed.
Playstation has always had better specs than any other console. And a lot of people say "PS3 only displays games in 720p and Xbox does 1080p just look at the back of the box" and I'm always like. You moron. The Xbox doesn't even have a blu-ray disc drive. What the Xbox does is upscale the games to 1080p. So you don't see *real* HD. Whenever an Xbox game does have better graphics than a PS3 game, it's usually because it was originally made for Xbox or PC and ported. When developers actually make PS3 exclusives, they turn out looking beautiful. Just look at Uncharted. That game is better graphic-wise than any other console game. Look at Killzone, too. Those are some nice graphics. There are plenty of videos on Youtube that compare graphics as well with multi console games. PS3 pretty much always takes the cake. Especially, I've noticed, in Skyrim. Of course, nothing compared to PC.
Like Rukiri said, it does come down to who has the best games though. Unfortunately, Xbox-exclusive developers tend to take the Xbox to it's full extremes. Playstation-exclusive developers tend to not gear it completely towards the amazing specs of the Playstation. If every game looked like Uncharted, that would be very nice. However, most PS3-specific games look like someone was just really, really good at Unity.
As far as Indie gaming goes, on consoles, Xbox takes the cake there too. PS3 indie games almost never show up.

For the "friend of a friend who works at Microsoft," I've noticed that Microsoft fans/workers always think incredibly highly of themselves. Me included. I always say "PC is way better than Mac" and "Windows Phones are better than iPhones" but really it just depends on who you're talking to that likes what system, and what they want out of it. Most of the people I know who have bought Xbox's bought them because of either Halo or Gears of War. Everyone I know that has bought a PS3 is more serious in complete gaming and knows the specs of the system, and knows they are better than Xbox's. That, and a lot of people bought PS3 systems so they could watch Blu-ray and play games and browse the internet in one device.. but that goes along with the specs thing. More gamers buy PCs, because it kicks ass, and more musicians/designers have Macs because they are a lot better with that kind of stuff. I'm actually contemplating buying a mac just so I can use Logic.

I think it is quite interesting though, how Xbox really has Halo as it's prime game, and PS3 is more of everything. Even though they have tons of exclusives and have been around much longer. Then again, Nintendo has more exclusives than both companies combined (and been around MUCH longer), and you practically ever hear about them anymore.

Generally they try to pick the most "appealing" graphically for a demonstration, they didn't really show much so yea... A game did seem similar to assassins creed graphically anyway.

I really haven't been "wow gotta get that" at console launches, I got the wii u at launch as I liked the gamepad and it's neat and a new interesting way to view maps, items and so on and it adds interaction. I actually expect to see some Mobile ports due to the touchpad on the new controller.

I think the system is worth getting, and I won't believe ANYONE about the 720 until official specs are released I'm just skeptical when someone says "hey, I have a friend that works at Microsoft in the Xbox department"

I myself think that xbox is going to make a xbox 8 with wondows 8 comapatability. as for playstation I'm getting the vita. I have still yet to get a ps3 cause I got an xbox 360, although I wished that I had gotten a ps3 for the free internet. all in all I wont get any new systems....

There is no point really pushing the specs too high anyway - as game developers have a limit to how much they are willing to spend on dev. anyway. If the rumours are to be believed then Xbox is going to completely smash PS4 apart.

Xbox 720 is going to come with Kinect mark 2 apparently.

I don't even know what that is, but as someone who has Kinect - I am interested.
