So first of all, I would like to know if someone would actually participate in an IRC RP.
I understand the time frames may be a problem.
However wouldn't you like to see it happen? Maybe it's possible to schedule a time for everyone.

Another thing I would like to discuss is how to build upon the RPs. As I see most are based off of just story, however would you like to see more? For example maybe a type of text role battle system? The only RP known to date that was more then just text was the "Death Note" & "Death Note, Chaos Which Makes Man" may they RIP.
Uh, ok, few things. First and foremost, you forgot Nicsp's kickass S4 RP. Also, wouldn't it make more sense to start a whole new RP over IRC? Since people have all sorts of different schedules, I would propose a more casual "hang out" sorta thing where everyone interacts with each other IC but there would be no underlying story or something because it's simply not feasible. I think someone tried to do something like that here before but it didn't take off. Third, what do you mean "text role battle system"? We have that all the time in RP's. Same goes for the "more than text" statement. They're called text-based RP's for a reason. I don't understand what you mean exactly.

By more then text I mean stats to make battle more of a challenge maybe? Consider it a game without the visuals.
It's been propsed here before but was summarily discarded. Most of the people here are casual RP'ers and we felt stats would be a turn-off for some and just get in the way altogether. The old .hack RP had a lot of combat but with no stats and the players were pleased with it so I've never included stats in any of my RP's.

If I knew when, I probably would. However time zones, work hours, and many other factors play an annoying factor in this.

I like story based roleplays, I feel they have helped develope my writing skill and creativity over the year.

That sounds like a fun time. And I am sure everyone would get more then a few laughs at some...crude characters XP

I greatly enjoy games of all kinds, I would love to try this, however it sounds like trying to play D&D through forums.
Battles are a challenge in general, when one is being realistic. Odds are if in a rp right this moment, no one would suspect me to punch anyone in the face, so no one should be able to block or dodge it. However odds are the person I would throw the punch at would make me only glance them and would coutner with a hit.
If making an overkill fighting important rp, this would be great, it makes for less...impowered characters, and an actual chance of death, even if we are all fighting together. I like this idea, and if we had random number generators it would be even better. (I think modesty had something like that talked in one of the rp forum tutorial things)

exactly what I was thinking.
I don't think an IRC RP is impossible, just unlikely to take off. Think about it, RPs on here can sit days without posts, how would that work in an IRC even if you get everyone there at once. Can you imagine how it would look?

and that's a little battle with three people, imagine a full RP with 9 people or so, all talking and in a battle at the same time. It would stop making sense
I think a better idea would be a unifying RP. An RP that everybody just, likes.
And RP that active wouldn't need to be in the IRC, but would still be fast enough for a 'best time' in which to post arrives in everyone's day.

I speak as someone who has done text-only RPs on both IRC and forums, as well as number-oriented RPGs like D&D over IRC. If you're not using numbers, the practicality of IRC depends wholely on not only schedules, but how the game is paced. Forum posts leave much more time to think and write up better quality stuff, especially for more writey RPs. If you're writing some kind of combat-only thing, then not using numbers tends to be a bad idea. There are dice bots and such that you can use with IRC to handle rolls and stuff. But a text-only combat RPG quickly desceneds into, from years of experience, somewhere ranging on snorefest because nothing's happening, or snorefest because godmodding prevails.
